I retired almost two years ago and love every second of it. I was a saver in my life but NEVER made a lot of money - and also had to LITERALLY start over with nothing at almost forty years of age due to a bad divorce. I did take advantage of a company matching 401k, and thankfully, with social security and my investments - who I have a company overlook for me - I can live on $3000 monthly no problem, and that's only taking a thousand from my retirement account. Lastly, I do and always have lived BELOW my means, even when I didn't have to. That's the key. I will also say where I worked we lost no less than 8 workers who were within tasting retirement - between the ages of 55 and 65, and it was heartbreaking for them and their loved ones, and they never made it to the point where they could smell the roses, just worked and worked and worked a LOT of hours. Retire as soon as you can and enjoy the time you have left, is my advice. I did retire at 65, but only because I needed that medicare - otherwise I'd have gone earlier. Best of luck.

While not retired I can definitely relate to what you are saying about so many people creating traffic jams, long lines in stores (mostly just food shopping or stupid home goods). I myself work my tail off, self employed and really never take a day off. I like to ride one of my three motorcycles preferably during daylight hours but the roads are crowded. I get burnt out with work related driving so my bikes collect dust when I do ride I am often stuck behind too many cars. So basically a hobby of mine gets shelved in favor of staying at home when not working and just surfing the net whilst snaking and boozing. Oh well at least I work. I'm 50 and I have a good home and I save and I just aspire for retirement age if....I can maintain decent health, a healthy planet down the road etc, etc.....Who knows it will all probably go up in smoke with climate change and or WW3 but we try to do the best we can.

Let’s face it. The rest of the world (including your spouse and other family members) don’t care what you want to do with your time. What they do want is a continuation of the benefits that you’ve been providing them for decades. They’ll make nice in conversation about retirement being your time to relax and live life on your own terms, but as soon as somebody misses a tuition payment or can’t pay their car insurance bill or ages out of your health insurance plan, then they’ll come around wanting to know what kind of delusion has gripped you.
