Most runs die out before stage 5 usually around the mid section of stage 4 so I don't get to practice alot. Also I'm pretty sure I played those runs at 3 am while half asleep.

ZUNs original .WAV versions recorded using the Edirol SD-90 have different chorus and reverb entirely due to it being a newer and more refined synth. (The SD-90 is just a desktop version of the XV-5080 without the expantion card slots with different presets and an audio interface, while the SC-88Pro has pretty much the same guts as the JV-2080 with a lower bit depth at 18bits.) It results in a technically worse mix due to there being more EFX crowding up the mix. (An example is in U.N. Owen Was Her? alot of the other tracks in the song get lost from too much chorus and not great EQ job [+12db 4000Hz high end] [+10db 200Hz low end].) The velocity thing is actually expression being set to somewhere between 127 and 80 (the SC-88Pro doesn't really respond that much to it) (another weird thing with the SD series is the they have non zero modulation technically making them not GM/GM2 compliant [0 in a DAW is -64 on the synth] I still have no idea what causes his original recordings to be so crunchy its almost like the SD-90s internal audio interface adds a crap ton of aliasing that I havent noticed with my SD-80

@@pirozhkebab I just read it now, thanks for the info! I've always noticed the similarity between XV/JV and the soundCanvas, and it turns that's really right. I use the VST soundCanvas and in my experience, its sound will never fully match the real hardware module. I think without the SD-90, it's impossible to achieve the original ZUN sound. (By the way, none of the regular listeners notice the difference in the synth sound, haha)

Wasn't really dedication. more like I didn't have a DSLR when I recorded this 2 years ago so I used my phone at the time (iPhone 6s) I use a Canon EOS 50D from 2008 these days for the ultimate authentic crunch

The SB VIBRA16s ALT can do alot more than what this vid shows off It's basicaly a fully fleged 6 OP FM synthesizer (like a DX7II or a TX81z) just on a card instead of in a keyboard or a rackmount chassis. if you have a gameport capable piano keyboard or a gameport to MIDI adapter you can with help from software (I use Frequency Monster 801) play it as a if it were any other keyboard

Being that this video was shot more than 2 years ago alot has changed about the way I record things primarily camera and audio. This video was recorded on the camera of an iPhone 6s at 720p 12MP 30fps and the audio was recorded using a Samsung Galaxy S7 pluged into the line out of the card - this to me at least makes the video feel crunchy, and not in the good "it was recorded on a DSLR thats not supposed to do video from 2008" crunchy like my new videos. RGB artifacts from the sensor, image noise, &c A phone camera does not do these things because the image processing corrects for it (excluding image noise sometimes it makes it worse) Now audio. Phones are not ment to have line level audio blasted into them. I remember it being quite hard to get results that were not cliping. by the time I recorded the 3rd video on this channel I had switched to a 8 channel mixer for recording this was much better as it means the crunchyness can be changed to however I feel (8000Hz 16bit - 96KHz 24bit).
