I’d heard pretty good things about Duel before, but your excellent review sealed the deal for me!
Great to hear it! Thanks for taking the time to check out the video - do feedback if you ever get around to trying it :)
A friend of mine just mentioned this game a couple of days ago! Good to hear your take on it!
Yay! It's well worth giving a try on BGA if you're able. It's one of our favorite 2-player only games for sure 👌
I just played regular 7 wonders for the first time a month ago and was wondering how the duel version was, glad to hear it's good, will have to give it a try!
Nice! the original 7 Wonders is one we want to try one day :) We're working backwards 😅
Great video! So thorough! The different maps of Voyages are an easy learn once you know the base game so we definitely recommend playing them. Also thanks for the lovely kitty ending!
Yay! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch. We're planning to keep playing Voyages before bed some nights, so I am looking forward to when we get around to the new maps and the different ways to play :) And yay! our cat Nanina is too cute not to share with the world. Hope you both have a happy New Year! 💜
@@Board_Game_Beans Happy New Year to you two as well! May 2025 be an especially good one!
Word of warning for when you decide to play an Exit game, I've done 2 or 3 of them and they are good but they can be rather frustrating lol, you really have to think outside of the box and use the hint cards a fair amount and even when you do sometimes you're like "how on earth was I supposed to figure that out" lol so yes for me and my friends at least they usually take like 2 hours, and I don't wanna spoil it but the games always make you use everything. Eeeeeeverything. Also I like the new VO format for first impressions etc, it's very well done. Happy holidays to all!
Oooooo, Nice thanks for the heads-up 😊 I don't think we'll mind if it takes longer than expected - even more value for money that way 🤣 thanks also for the feedback regarding the VO videos :) Happy holidays to you too!
The original version of Canopy was designed primarily as a 2 player game with variations for more players. The theme is the Amazon rainforest. The new version is Canopy Evergreen which was designed for more players & the theme is the Pacific Northwest in America. FYI, neither game would be good for your breakfast boardgames...even the original 2 player game takes a lot of tablespace!🤣 But I think you would like it!
For just two players would be perfect for us 🥰 one day we will get hold of it ☺️
Are you allowed to discuss things during the game? (A lot of co-ops these days have some kind of limit on communication.)
Yep! Communication is allowed and encouraged, sorry we could have made that point a bit more clear in the video :) It could be a fun challenge to play with limited communication though, maybe as a homebrew "faulty comms" expansion 😅
@Board_Game_Beans Thanks! We like co-ops that allow communication! Your "Faulty comms" idea would be a good way to make the game harder, though! 😆
Mistakes were made 😢 at 00:10 I had forgotten to update the chapter card text, which displays the name of the game from our last video. I’ll try to pay more attention going forward!
We got & played Pandemic during the actual global pandemic, very early in lockdown, before we realized just how bad things would get. On one hand, we thought it was an excellent game, BUT...we never played it again, & culled it after a few years. The theme is just too "real world" & not in a good way. We just couldn't face playing a game about something that killed our neighbors😢 The game design is good, but there's a lot of good co-op games that have themes we like better. (A number of games have borrowed the pandemic system🎉)
Fair enough to your reasons why you wouldn't want to play this game - which other co-ops do you enjoy instead? :)
@Board_Game_Beans We probably play Horrified more than anything, but we also like games in Forbidden series (Island & Desert especially) , Switch and Signal, the Captain Is Dead, and Robinson Crusoe. Last Christmas the family gave us Scooby Doo The Boardgame and we've had a silly amount of fun with that, too! 🤣
@@teaNgames Amazing recommendations - Thanks! we will check those out; I recall you talking about The Captain is Dead before, it sounds really interesting :)
@@Board_Game_Beans A lot of the appeal of The Captain Is Dead is the theme😆 I also really recommend Switch and Signal, a co-op train game. Hard to get in the US, but you might have better luck!
Hello, just a couple of mistakes to fix: At 03:04 , the outbreak tracker increases on any outbreak, not just a chain outbreak. At 12:29 , Joana had meant the Scientist player roll (which is the white pawn) not the medic. Thanks 💜
Such a great, approachable game!
I like the progression of the boards; you start with a ship❤️(1), then there's a kraken (2) & the ship is reduced to a raft (3), which then lands on an island (4)!🏝 There's a whole story/journey!😆
Good spot! We never noticed that 😊
This video looks so professional guys! Liking the new style. You deserve so many more views. Keep it up! 😃🙌 Noticed the details at 2:06 with the slight shift in yaw and blur. Very nice 👌
That's made our morning reading that; thank you! 😊 We weren't sure if this new style would go down well so it's nice to hear positive feedback. This approach makes it a lot easier for us to put together and edit 😅
It looks a lot like the "--opolis" series of games from Button Shy! So few cards always make the scoring conditions difficult!
We have a couple of those to try! ☺️
I want to find a good deal on this for our camper. I wouldn't be surprised if this version would replace our full sized copy, it seems nicer to use and track scoring.
I love Voyages! Such a nifty roll-n-write! I haven't yet played all the maps...I need to print out the last two maps!
Looks like a fun little game, reminds me a wee bit of the solo game Crystallo even. Good review!
Thanks! Hope the new format is ok - we decided to change some things up which and I feel this will allow us to meet a more regular upload schedule :) Crystallo looks interesting! Not heard of that one before 👀
This is such a well done video. Amazing! I'm a huge fan of Voyages and have played all the official maps. I'm hoping to dive into some of the community made maps at some point. There is also a campaign that is also very enjoyable to go through. One of my favourite print and plays for sure!
Yay! So glad you liked it - thank you! We decided to try a different format for this one and will be applying it to our Reviews and First Impressions going forward; it'll allow us to make videos a bit easier and also upload at a more regular schedule 😊 We're big fans of this game already with only one game played - so I've already gone and printed maps 2 and 3 😅 Hoping we can get some more rounds in of this first map over the weekend 👌 Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment on this :)
I've never actually played Forbidden Island, but have played Forbidden Desert many many times, it's fantastic. Burgle Bros and Flashpoint are other great games with a similar feel. oh, and we have many games we haven't played in our collection for a while, but still love... Another great video, thank you for sharing❤
Thanks so much for taking the time to check out our video 🥳 Burgle bros is one we have on the wishlist, looks like the gameplay is really fun in that one 😊
What level do you play at? I was thinking of pushing the starting level up...then we played a really tough game on the normal level...& we chickened out on increasing the difficulty 🤣
We play one level away from the Skull and Crossbones 😎 Haha joking aside we usualy play Normal but have tried the others a few times. I find the difficulty comes more from the initial tile placement? (The Waters Rise! Cards too, as Joana loves to draw them) but often times we find the map tiles can lead to an easy/clear path. I know it's random but I wish there was a way to control that better - because half way through a game if we see it's near impossible to lose (even if we get flooded) then it takes away from the enjoyment a bit. Maybe we really do need to play one level away from the top just to feel that constant fear 😅 Or perhaps we could try and only put the treasure tiles at the edge of the island with the helipad in the middle, so we're forced to move around more :)
@@Board_Game_Beans The characters you play also impact the difficulty. Because we play at 2 player we choose our characters. I might go with random roles in a 4-player game because we'd end up with a good mix of skills. The alternate layouts look tricky; I wouldn't push the starting level up the first time you try them!😉
@@teaNgames True! :) Ahaha yes I'm not prepared to try the alternate layout (Especially the bridge one) without a Diver on our team to cross the gap when that middle tile eventually falls 😅
Oh nice, I've played this one! I liked it, I think the first few times you play it does present a decent challenge by trying to make you decide when to save tiles and trying to plan a few turns in advance, and I like that you can adjust the difficulty. But I agree after a few plays it does get a bit dry/you grow out of it. We'll have to try out Pandemic now, thanks!
Yay 🥳 Thanks for checking out the video :) Absolutely do try out Pandemic if you can, we're big fans of that one and the challenge it presents.
I hadn't heard of this---thanks for the video of this nifty puzzle game!
Doesn't seem talked about all too often, glad we discovered it through BGA when we did though. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! 😊☕
* Sorry for the audio quality in this one. We had some technical difficulties where one of the mics failed to pickup into the camera at all. We tried to salvage it the best we could in DaVinci Resolve 🤞
Great video! You've got a lot of really interesting games lined up to play! I'm looking forward to hearing more about them!🎉 Looking forward to hearing what you think of Arnak! We need to get that back to the table!
Thanks for checking it out! :) Ahaha, you'll probably get Arnak back to the table and mentioned in a video before we give it a proper go 🤣
Thank you so much for mentioning us! You've been so kind to us since we've started, and we really appreciate your continued support!
💜 The board game community is better for you folks being part of it :)
I thought I was the only one who hadn't played Arnak. Phewwwwwww. 🙂
🤣 - there are dozens of us! DOZENS! We keep trying to get it to the table and it still hasn't happened. Instead of learning it a few days ago we ended up learning/playing 7 Wonders Duel 😅 Thanks for checking out the vid and the sub! Appreciate it :)
Feels good to be a good bean 🙌 thank you for the shout out and kind words! Cosy video! ☕️☺️
Absolutely deserving of a shout out - thanks for checking out the video 😊
Thanks for a look at the mini version! We've only recently discovered Azul & this looks like a good travel version!
Thanks for checking out our latest video 💜 It really is a good size for travel - we're very happy with it 😊
Ziplock bags to the rescue, as usual.
@@darbyl3872 Good idea 👍
This looks really good! Is the rulebook on BGA in English? The game may be hard for us in America to get, so BGA may be my best bet 🤞
Yep they have an English rulebook on BGA :) I believe the game is coming to Barnes and Noble for you in January, as part of their game of the month? Thanks for taking the time to check out the video :)
@Board_Game_Beans Ooo...I'll have to look for it! Thanks!
Great video! I also was not there and, from your list, i'll pick Black Forest too. And the game i'll like to try from SPIEL 2024 is SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence .
Thanks for watching! SETI does indeed look amazing! Only reason that one didn't make this list is because we had seen it previously; but we'd love to get that or Tea Garden as our first game from Tomáš Holek. I'm still struggling to find Tea Garden anywhere so it might be SETI that we can play first :)
Great video with great looking games! Really enjoy the b-roll, animated info, and sound effects. Good job 🙌
Yay 🥳 That makes us happy to hear; thank you so much for watching and the feedback :)
Great video! We have Ecosfera but haven't played it yet. We also got Black Forest but that just arrived. We'll have to look at some of these others but you're exchange about Thunder Road made me think Joana would really like Fox Experiment if you haven't played it. Lots of dice rolling goodness! ALSO ALSO we loved Sweden's forests when we were there!
Our Ecosfera is on the way - lost in the delivery network somewhere 🥳 Oh nice, We will take a look at Fox Experiment, thank you! 😊🎲 Thanks for taking the time to check out our video!
Ecosfera caught my eye...co-op deck building sounds interesting! And I'm tempted by Tea Garden because of the theme!🫖
Ahaha, Susan, Tea Garden is literally your game. It was made for you 🤣 The tea game could only be better if it was in space lol (Now there is a cool board game idea)
@@Board_Game_Beans Outer space tea with aliens!🎉🫖🤣🤣🤣
1:11 Mighty Boards with Rebirth had one of the busiest booths at Essen.
Seems well deserved! I'm not sure on the shipping status of ours, I just know it's coming someday soon from their warehouse in Poland. I hope it's one of the mysterious tracking codes we've recently received but can't match to anything in our records 😅
@@Board_Game_Beans Not to mention Reiner Knizia was doing signings for one day at the booth. But like you, I am waiting for my copy.
"Because I don't have a group of friends" I feel that so much 😭😂 But all of these games look awesome, great picks!
🤣 It do be like that, sorry you feel that too! 😞; thanks for taking the time to check out our video :)
Very good lists! I'm surprised you didn't include sale prices for games---when I did the $150 challenge I looked for the lowest price😁 A $50 challenge is very hard! I'm glad you did it because so many games are so expensive! Good games, good list!
Haha yeah I think next time we might allow sales... it was just to make the challenge a little more tricky but I don't think that's very beneficial to the viewer in anyway - next time we do this we can allow sale prices; but also include the normal MSRP for reference :) Thanks for checking out our video!
Fun video! We did something similar but I believe it was a $150 budget. You will enjoy Voyages. I think I like their print and play Waypoints even more. But Voyages is excellent. Also, I don't think I realized there was a light mode v dark mode option on BGA. I'll have to try out dark mode. And Fliptown is excellent! - Jayne
Yay! thanks so much for taking the time to check it out. Oh nice we have Waypoints too I think, just not printed yet :)
Agreed on all things Postmark Games!
Do you have a favourite? ☺️
@@Board_Game_Beans Voyages is my favorite of the bunch at the moment.
Visiting from Tabletop Express!
Thank you for taking the time to stop by! :)
Botanik is a favorite of ours! I've played it once on BGA as well as many times with the physical version. There's something very satisfying about playing the physical version. This is a good game for your breakfast games!🥞☕️
It's a lovely game isn't it? Indeed, it would be great fit for breakfast gaming! :D Might have to do just that tomorrow morning! :)
"We like to buy games we haven't played yet" - you're really jumping into the hobby with both feet, haha. "We don't drink, or do drugs, so we're good" - yup... although crowdfunding can be addictive! Fika chats are a great idea, looking forward to more!
Haha - yeah we dipped in a toe with Forbidden Island, Pandemic, and Wingspan, after a couple of games we were all in :) Thanks for taking the time to view and comment :) We'll have more Fika videos soon! (Not all of them will be this this exact "round up" format, nor as long in length) 😴
awwwwww thank you so much for the shout out. Loads of love from Canada to you both! Yes, we were part of the Voices Group on Our Family Plays Games channel too. Love them.
Our pleasure! Sending love back from Portugal! 🇵🇹🛬🇨🇦
@@Board_Game_Beans ha ha, love it
Love getting to hear about your plans, very nice chill video! I just want to say that I'm very impressed with the quality of your videos (and thumbnails!) for how new of a channel you are, your audio and editing are really great! Trying to edit audio also drives me up a wall lol, I definitely have not figured it out yet but your vids always sound good, especially for being outside! The b-roll during review vids etc is great and the consistency in the video details like the info boxes and the title cards are very pleasing. A video suggestion I think would be fun to see, since you said you're hoping to move, would be a before and after of your game collection/storage, from your current place to your new place! Would love to see how people decide to set up their new storage solutions since that's something we'll have to deal with soon as well haha. Or if not about the storage then just a tour of your game collection! I don't have much else to offer besides encouragement, I really enjoy your vids and hope to use you guys as part of our inspiration when we start making board game vids! (My boyfriend and I don't live together yet so it's hard to find time to play games and make videos together.) And I agree about Discord, moderating and all that seems like a lot of work, but I wish you the best of luck when and if you decide to start one. And PS Joana I also sometimes don't drink the last sip of a drink lol, love that you leave those cute authentic moments in the vids. Wishing you all the best and can't wait for the next one! -Elsie
Thank you so much for the kind words! To hear that you think our audio is great makes me so happy because that has been one of the largest pain points for me 😅 I hope we can continue to improve, we'll see how it goes in the next video because I will be learning a new tool (DaVinci Resolve) as Final Cut gave me so much grief in exporting this (Probably all those pesky info cards). We'll continue to try and get better :) Again things will change over time and I already have new plans for the title/chapter cards, which I hope you'll like just as much if not more. Great video suggestions! The first one might not make such an interesting video out of us only because we plan to literally heave the entire Kallax into a van and take the whole thing with 🤣 Maybe it'd make a fun short though 🤔. Great idea too, to show a mini-tour of the collection - something we'll consider to do soon. Joana is very happy to learn she's not the only one that leaves a sip of drink 🤣 Thanks again for the lovely comment, wishing all the best to you for when you start with the board game content! 🥳
Thank you so much for the shout-out❣️ Another terrific video from you---I always enjoy your videos! Sorry you've had technical difficulties, but the video came out great!🎉
You're welcome and thank you so much 😌 I'm so glad we managed to get this one exported and uploaded in the end 😅 here's hoping the next video goes smoother 🤞
I also backed this one and am looking forward to printing/laminating/playing it very soon! Great review!
Thank you 😊 It's a really nice one, I'm looking forward to playing it some more this weekend! I've ran out of laminator sheets though so we might have to play it on a tablet :(
I like print and play, roll and write games, but I stopped backing them because I tend forget to print them, or forget that I even have them😆 We have Voyages from Postmark Games & I really liked it, but I think there's 2 maps I still haven't printed and laminated yet!😆 Hope you both feel better soon!
Aha, we're going to use this series of videos as a reason to print and play them on a more regular basis :) We've yet to find the perfect system for us to organise them too... I have various PnP games in different folders scattered around the office 😅 Thank you, we're both feeling much better now :)
This is on my wishlist! It's been on my list for so long now that I probably should get it!😆 Terrific video!
Its a really nice one :) Small and easy to take with you out and about. Thanks so much for checking out the video - I'm not sure if these let's play videos are what folks want to see, but we had fun anyway :)
Thank you for checking out Fliptown and glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for designing it! We both think it's brilliant and have enjoyed it even more since this video. We're looking forward to order The Lone Gun expansion when it releases 🥳 Also, I hope I pronounced your name ok? 😬😅
Another great video and those chairs look so comfy
Thank you! Aha yeah those garden chairs are good to chill in - not so great to film with though as we were bouncing around and so far apart 🤣
