Bottom Fishing and Catching a Rare Fish in Hawai'i Waters
The wind was howling and we went out for our first bottom fishing trip of the year! Super stoked on that rare fish only catching 3 so far. Had enough pieces to give out to neighbors and friends. Also for us to enjoy! Until next time, Shootees! Enjoy the video!

Chasing Gold: Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) Catches of Summer 2024

Summer has come to an end, The "winter" season is coming to Hawai'i but I just wanted to recap our 2024 summer Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) season. Though not crazy numbers since me and my dad aren't commercial fishermen but instead your normal weekend warriors. It was a good season, got enough fish to feed family and friends and the ability to appreciate what the ocean has blessed us with! Hope you en...

The weather and fishing hasn't been the greatest but that's all good! Fishing is fun no matter what conditions. I'll take a mediocre fishing session over staying home bored. Did some deep drops and messed around with the micro jigging to see if i can get lucky. Hope to do some daytime action soon! Until next time, shootees!
Fishing for Bonefish “Oio” with Light Tackle
Просмотров 391Месяц назад
I went fishing to celebrate my birthday. Went for a dunking session to be exact; a short but fun video. However, it's always fun to catch these hard fighting fish on lighter tackle. The Oio also known as "bonefish" has my full respect...Even when it breaks my rod tip, you can help me buy a new rod by subscribing. HAHAH, just kidding. Until next time, Shootees!

My sashimi plating needs work. However, with the nighttime fishing being slow and getting lucky with some Bigeye Trevally and more. I will always take a scraper of a fish over nothing at all! Sorry, I know its been a while. The weather has been bad and the fishing has been slow. But hopefully things should start to get better! How slow is the drift on the shoot. We usually anchor at night once we find the fish. I have NEVER seen a bonito like that....looks like something from Australia. Love you videos keep up the content!

    • @NSCYT
      @NSCYT 4 дня назад

      With the shoot we usually can slow down under 1 knot, but if the current and wind is going the same direction we still rip. But keeps us out of the trough making it less miserable. Thank for watching! I also enjoy watching your videos when you go out! Tight lines!

    Thanks for sharing what came up on that dark and stormy night and the work involved in processing the fish. How does the kale kale taste compared to the opakapaka? And while the hagatsuo you caught does look like the California Pacific Bonito, I think the Pacific bonito fillets are redder like our kawakawa. The hagatsuo is lighter in color and oilier yeah?

    • @NSCYT
      @NSCYT 4 дня назад

      Thank you for helping me identify the bonito species! Yes, the filets were fatty and oily very good sashimi! Regarding the opakapaka.,I think they are a bit more sweet but the texture is still nice and firm like kalekale.

    Pity the mercury issues these days, got to watch how much of this type of fish you eat. A pity because it makes big game fishing kind of not worth it over just chasing smaller species for food.

    • @NSCYT
      @NSCYT Месяц назад

      Yup, We would rather catch some otaru (big skipjack tuna) over marlin any day. Better eating and low mercury levels. However Hawaii is one place that has lower levels of mercury in our pelagic fish. Having high levels of selenium which help prevent mercury toxicity. Despite us having lower levels. It’s still a carrier of mercury…Moderation is key.
