In this video, I demonstrate that keeping the rod tip high after the cast has been made will make even the softest of casts roll out nicely. I then go to the other extreme and demonstrate that if you somehow remove ALL the tension in the cast, the loop (being just a wave in a string) can no longer be transmitted along the string. In a cast where there is JUST enough line speed to complete the cast, removing tension from the rod leg will cause the loop to collapse, losing its shape.
