Description ...................... Does anyone have an idea of the purpose of this wall at the site of the former Rufford Junction on the Mansfield to Southwell Railway?

Going back many years Southwell used to stage a large choral festival and special trains from many destinations arrived at Southwell. Does anybody know where was the rolling stock was stored for those trains and where were the engines serviced and turned ?

Fascinating - I used to play on the train bankings (away from the lines) as a child. My mum used to take holly clippings every Christmas from the bridge at the back which went under the train line near the caravan park.

Oak Tree Lane always fascinated me as a kid because of the way the road curved to accommodate it. When they removed the bridge and the road was straightened I couldn’t get my head around it...

I lived in one of the new Wimpey houses by Oak Tree Lane bridge 1961 -65. Happy memories of heavily loaded coal trains slogging up the incline towards Mansfield, and the rattle of empties heading back to the pits!
