Reading Booktubers' Favourites ft. The Library of Allenxandria (Augustus) || Ep. 12, December 2023
A very diverse list! :D I'm excited to see you picking up more Tchaikovsky, I loved The City of Last Chances and the second one was even better. But I have to warn you that it might not be a trilogy, the way the third book ended, but I don't know for sure. I also plan to read the third Emily Wilde's sometime soon after it comes out, felt the same way about books one and two you did :D Very excited for this, 2025 will be a great reading year x3
The Devils!!!! 🔥
Love this list and can’t wait to see if you get to these and what you think of them!!
This is such a cool video idea! Would love if you wanted to do more (Taylor) albums. I haven’t watched the whole video yet but just wanted to leave a comment and let you know that I got very excited when I saw it, and even more when the first book you mentioned was Robin Hobb😂 I think in a weird way Hobb’s writing and Taylor’s work for me so well for similar reasons. They’re both very good at elegantly and seemingly effortlessly conveying emotions, I think. Anyway, great video!❤
So many bops ! Also so many I wanna/need to read. Need to read more Nghi Vo as their novellas are excellent ! You are gonna adore BOBH, such an excellent book !
These X books in 20X are starting to get out of hand hahah. Love your list though, really hope that these all live up to your expectations!! Especially eager to hear your thoughts on House of Leaves, Blood Over Bright Haven and Strange & Norrell. Happy reading 🥰
❤📚📚❤️ Your list sounds amazing! I wish you an enjoyable 2025 reading year. I have Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell on my shelves, too. It's been on two monthly tbr lists, but it's daunting. 😅
Love your list of books. It's hard to find booktubers who read Fantasy.
I would go into a slump with what you have on your TBR. I feel the need to read a variety of literary genres
My list is definitely fantasy heavy because it’s my favourite genre, but it’s also not a TBR in the sense that I want to read all of these right away, they are just some of my priorities! But I do have literary fiction, historical fiction, romance, non fiction and classics represented on the list so I find it’s a good balance for me ☺️
I like the variety there. I was just laughing at the end because its a good reminder for me to delete some stuff from phone before filming this weekend. I can totally imagine how you must have felt. Also, seeing you talk about your last book reminded me that Evie and I started it few months back but pushed it to the next year because of too many commitments and I totally forgot that.
Omg yes don’t forget to delete!! Usually I’m good for that but sometimes I fall behind (obviously) 😂 at least a collection of stories is easy to pick up and put back down without worrying, but I hope you guys are able to get back to it soon ☺️
Hi great reads for 2025!! 🎉
Thank you! 🥰
❤📚📚❤️ I really enjoyed The Warm Hands of Ghosts and Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands. I'm glad you loved them, too.
Heck yeah, I’m glad to hear you loved them too! 💕
Malazannnnnnnnn! Also, Warm Hands of Ghosts was a great recommendation (more of a threat)
all of my recommendations should be treated as threats
Glad you had such a brilliant month!! You're making me want to reread Warm Hands, it was sooo haunting and darkly alluring. Hope the 5-star energy continues on into December 🥰
I hope it does for you too! Wind and Truth is a good start for that! 🥰
I'm so glad to hear you liked The Warm Hands of Ghosts, it's definitely a priority for me for 2025!
I hope you love it 🥰
Warm hands of ghost supremacy!
Facts 😇
I definitely need to move warm hands of ghosts up on my tbr!
Yessss I’ll be so glad if I can get more people to read it sooner ☺️
Folklore is one of my favourite albums of all time as well!! A true masterpiece! Ooh yes, I would definitely agree with seven and The Ocean at the End of the Lane, they both have that nostalgia for the freedom of childhood, but also a lot of darkness, especially when looking back at childhood from an adult perspective. The Winter of the Witch and mad woman is a perfect pairing! The entire Winternight trilogy fits the vibe of that song so well. I feel like The Witch's Heart might also fit for mad woman, too. There are so many books on here I am so compelled to read now and will definitely listen to the songs you've matched them with when I do! My top priority to read from this list is Spells for Forgetting. I would love to see your ideas for other albums!
I have a feeling you’ll enjoy Spells for Forgetting! And maybe I need to move Witch’s Heart up my radar haha 👀
I think maybe for this is me trying it could be catcher in the rye?? I read it a while ago so I don’t know if it fits that well but that is what came to my mind
Oh yeah I could see that! Lots of trauma in that book!
Listened to the album a thousand times for us! That is some video preparation! 😅
I’m nothing if not dedicated 😂
Vigilante Sh*t: Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie 🤣
Hahaha very appropriate 💯
OMG Grace this is phenomenal!! folklore is also my favourite album (up there with evermore and TTPD), so this video just sings to my soul. Loved hearing you interpret the songs and match books, I think you freaking nailed it (even the ones you felt less confident about). Especially the LPQ one, SPOT ON!! Also, for mad woman, I think They Never Learn by Layne Fargo is also a whole vibe. And Illicit Affairs makes me think of You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi. Also, Betty is sooo good and your pick makes so much sense when you explained it. For me, Jas Hammonds' books come to mind for that one. Okay I can go on for days here hahaha, thanks for putting in the effort of making this, I looooved it!! 🤩🤩
Ahhh thank you Esmay 😍 They Never Learn would also be a great pick for mad woman I totally agree!! I’ll have to look into Jas Hammonds I’ve never heard of her!
Such a cool concept! Love it!
Thank you 😄
Can't wait to hear your HoC thoughts, it was one of my fav ones if I remember rightly.
The ending was 🔥🔥
@@GraceDionneReads Yes !! Witness !!
Oooh love an unhaul. I was spoiled for Daisy Darker and Im glad i never picked it up because oof that sounds rubbish. I totally agree about Olivia Blake, Ive tried a few of her books and they just arent for me.
I still want to try The Atlas Six but I don’t have quite as high of hopes as I did before!
@@GraceDionneReads Ive soft dnfed it but I wonder but I wanna love it haha.
I really love the way you describe books in your wrap ups. It helps me so much to figure out which books might be right for me. I’m so excited to try out The God of the Woods and Weyward now, they’re both going to be bumped up on my tbr. 📚
Aww that is so nice to hear, thank you! 🩷 I hope you end up enjoying them!
Ooh girl you didn't mention that Weyward was full of triggering content relating to the topic of sexual assault. You should do that, it doesn't ruin the story to warn your subscribers of that. In my experience no one cares about warning of triggers though so I guess we all need to learn how to look it up ourselves if that stuff bothers us. Anyway...It was a page turner. She got me interested and caring for the characters. I suffered though, I suffered, fellow girls reading this. It wasn't the same vibe as other female revenge stories (which is what this ultimately is). It was written in a very beginner way too, in that she was constantly bringing up her themes and symbols (CHARACTER SAYING OVER AND OVER THAT THE BUGS AND BIRDS ARE MAGICAL AND I LOVE THEM) lol. It was a polarizing book that is part of the reason that the reviews are full of angry people and then very pleased people. It was very "women good, men bad". The other theme of pregnancy was also a super strange incorporation. I saw a goodreads review saying the book was anti abortion and to be honest..... they're right, whether or not that was the author's intention, it was there and it was ugly. ALSO-Believe you me! I am a misandrist through and through as well. (because misandry isnt real, men are not systemically oppressed so it cant be real) and I STILL thought she was bashing us over the head with "MEN BAD, MEN BAD, MEN BAD." LOL.
Yeah that’s fair, I did mention the triggers in my goodreads reviews and honestly just slipped my mind to mention them here, but I’m a big proponent of that as well! I appreciate you mentioning that! As for the rest of your thoughts, I can see your perspective and how the story would come off that way, but I didn’t find it bothered me at all that the themes were somewhat on the nose
Yeees Weyward was such a hit for me as well, and I can't wait for her new release next year! And love to hear that you are bingeing Elements of Cadence, that story is so atmospheric and oddly charming. Hope the ending of House of Chains is amazing for you, happy reading :)))
Wow I had no idea she had another book coming next year, thanks for putting that on my radar! 🩷 and yes Rebecca Ross seems to have a knack for worlds that are atmospheric and a bit sad while somehow also being charming! Lol
@@GraceDionneReads you're welcome!! and you hit the nail on the head, she shines in that aspect!
uhhh I felt the same about Jasmine Throne - not connection but the ideas were awesome. The sequel to Kings of the Wyld was pretty good (I loved the new characters) - and then I bought both as physical books because if another one gets published I'll definitely want to reread them :'D
I honestly hadn’t even thought about another one being published! I’m so bad at keeping up with news in the book community 😅 but the current design of different accent colours would look really cool on the shelf together if the series continues
I am so intrigued by Rebecca Ross' books but have yet to pick one up! I'm so glad to hear you like them ❤
Yes she’s quite good in my opinion! I don’t think you can go wrong with either series, although outside the two I mentioned here, I don’t know a ton about her other books ☺️
🍁
What do you think about A River Enchanted/A Fire Endless audiobooks? I wanted to pick A River Enchanted (it's my hopeful bard pick for r/fantasy bingo) on audio because I tend to prefer atmospheric reads on audio and I expect this story to be an atmospheric read, but when I tried the audio sample, it sounded pretty terrible to my ears - the narrator grated on my ears and it was kinda hard to understand her due to the heavy accent (probably because I am not a native English speaker, although I have listened to a few other Celtic inspired stories with Celtic narrations and had no problems), so I am curious to hear your thoughts on it 🤔
So far I’ve thought that the audiobook is very well done! I don’t know if I’ve enjoyed it as much as physically reading the first book though… I’ve found that sometimes the tone and inflection the narrator gives the characters aren’t what I would have imagined for them, if I was reading their dialogue myself in my own head. That’s a really hard thing to quantify though 😅
House of Chains is so long so I totally get it taking you so much time. Also glad Weyward worked better for you than it did for me!
It’s been a really engaging book but on busy days I don’t make much progress hahah
I want to read a brando sando sometime soon because I’ve heard sooooo much about his world building!
Yes it’s definitely one of his biggest strengths! Along with his magic systems but I kind of think about that under the same category ☺️
Good morning, Grace. Enjoyed your review on "The God of the Woods".❤
Thank you! ❤️
The highly irritating nature of Tylin and the other women is not a bug but a feature of the story. They are hard to endure but that is our own epic journey of tolerating these ones dysfunctional, immature psychology. If Mat can tolerate them, then can we do less?
Love an unhaul! I’ve had Kings of the Wyld on my TBR for years and just haven’t prioritised it🙃
It’s a really fun read! I’m glad I got to it when I did because it definitely gives “oh I’ll definitely read this sometime” and then you never do energy 😂
Bruh are you canadian?
Haha it’s been so long since this video I don’t remember if I said something specific to make you think that, but yes I am Canadian ☺️
@@GraceDionneReads lol I don't remember what it was either, but I've been watching these after every WOT book I finish and it took me until now to realize it
You should read Bloody Rose (the sequel to Kings of the Wyld). Both are really good, but I liked the 2nd slightly more.
I’m definitely open to reading Blood Rose!
same here, the second book was even better. And the covers ... <3 I'm glad they both wrap up nicely though, especially because there might not be a third book anytime soon.
I would like to publicly apologise for my removal of Kings of the Wyld! I did not receive Grace rated it so highly! Be assured that it will be ascending back to its rightful place
It has been saved!
Enjoyed following along with you two on your trip.
ooh, i need a) a basement and b) a shelf! i actually think it’s a good idea, if you’re not quite sure that you want a book out of the house. stick ‘em on the basement shelf and see in a year, or so, whether you want to let it go completely. aw, i completely forget what it is about, but do remember having a good time listening to something in the water. i also really enjoyed listening to daisy darker. the humor worked for me. i was just shaking my head and chuckling a lot while listening to the audiobook. i do appreciate the amount of thought you put into your descriptions of the books. it’s very interesting to hear! and, yes, add me to the group requesting sign posts! you put that so well. i still have the final strife patiently sitting on the shelf and waiting to be read; faebound as well. 🫣 i hope you’re enjoying your october reads! 💜🎃💜 have a lovely day!
Thank you for the kind words, I’m glad that you enjoyed the descriptions of the books because sometimes I think I’m rambling on too much 😂 October reading is definitely going better so far! I hope yours is as well :)
❤📚📚❤️
Okay so I wouldn't want to be a book in your guys' household, the stakes are high... imagine being punished for not being good enough and put in the dark cellar 🤣Also, why say sorry about throwing Ben under the bus lol I am soooo curious to hear your thoughts on The Ending Fire when you get to it btw! 🥰
Hahah it’s not as harsh as it sounds, the basement is nice!
@@GraceDionneReads okay then I take that back, would not mind being adopted by the King and Queen of booktube even if I have to live in a (nice) basement 🤣
Surprisingly, the one book I'm adding to my tbr is the romance book.
It was a good one!
❤📚📚❤️ Better luck next month!😊
Thank you 💜
I feel the exact same way about Lift! Also really enjoyed The Seven Year Slip, and I read Oathbringer in September too :)
I'm really hoping that the way Sanderson writes Lift can evolve while still feeling true to her character! Since there's a time jump between the first and second arcs of Stormlight I feel like we may see that happen
I read 14 books in September My favorite reads The air he breathes by brittainy cherry The wild truth by carine mccandless memoir she's the sister of Christopher mccandless there's a book and movie based on his life called into the wild City of dreams by don Winslow sequel to city of fire Twisted lies by ana Huang
Boooo, we don't want that 2-star energy around here. Hope October has been better already! You know, I can def see what you mean with Daisy, Darker and I actually caught the twist in like the first 20%, so that really changed my experience with the book. Also, I buddy read it with someone who considers it one of their all-time faves so that helped lol 🤣 And heeeck yes for The Seven Year Slip and Oathbringer! My book of the month in September was Hell of a Witch by Rachel Aaron, closely followed by the audiobook of Thank You For Listening by Julia Whelan 🤩
Yeah honestly I felt a bit silly for not realizing what was happening going on in Daisy Darker 😂 I legit went flipping back through the pages to double check things and went "ohhhhh"
I do love Memories of Ice, though its never been a favourite of mine. Still better than most Fantasy books I've read. Fool's Assassin was my book of the month. Edgedancer broke me, and made me realise how much I detest Sanderson's humour 😂
Fool's Assassin is sooooo good, the later Fitz trilogies have that magic of feeling like you are coming back home when you start one. And then, of course, you get into the emotional damage later 😂
