Lol I've been an artist my entire life. And I've taken art classes my entire life both before college and during. I was an art major in high school and a theatre tech major with focus on scenic and costume art in college. If you think artists making completely valid points about the idiocy that is ai "art" is them being "spineless" you are very clearly out of touch with reality. Autotune isn't ai so this comparison is irrelevant. Using photo editing tools is also not ai so once again that is irrelevant. Neither autotone nor photo editing tools use artists' work without their permission and convolute it into something else they then claim is "original art" and then try to sell it as that. "The internet" isn't canceling your career. Which I'm not even sure what ur "career" is from this comment lol Everyone I've seen talk about ai has very clearly talked about trying to make it ethical so I'm not sure what you're reading or looking at but it's not what I've seen. People's gripes with it is it stealing from artists who did not consent to it and then claiming it as your own. And once again neither autotune nor editing photos falls under that category. You seem to not understand the real issue people have with ai. Like claiming those pictures with crochet art are real and making money off of posting fake content like that while REAL crochet artists get pushed behind and have to fight with algorithms and this fake "art" to get their stuff seen. This is a multi faceted issue, none of which you have brought up or offered solutions to. Soooo good luck with that. Finding a meaningful choice? What does that even mean? If you think the internet is "trying to cancel" your career then maybe you're the spineless one?

@AZTECMAN lol dude all you wrote is that you supposedly have a background in art from college. That gives me no information about what this so called background is. For all I know you could've taken one art history class and then claimed you have a background in art. Regardless, I never said ai should be canceled or gotten rid off entirely. Clearly, that's not going to happen in the current world we're in. We're not asking for it to disappear. We're asking for it to be used ethically and for people to not try to scam others by claiming their ai generated photos are "original art" and selling overpriced bs made by a computer. Not only is that lying to the customers, it completely skews the way the art community is looked at by the general populace and then artists are forced to lower their prices to "match" the fake ai art because people think that's normal. I think all ai art should IN THE LEAST be tagged as ai art instead of claiming it's "original". And at best it should be used as a way to make your own art by using elements of it instead of waiting 5 seconds for a computer to make it and then posting it online pretending you actually put in time and effort to make it. And even in that case I think it should be tagged as hybrid ai art and still not fully "original" art. If someone is trying to hide the fact that something is ai, that is straight up lying and deceiving people. And I've seen MANY accounts do that

@@AstralArtist If "No AI" is anything more than a gimmick, I'm all for it! As for a meaningful choice... by default we get corporate crony-ism. From my perspective that's a crappy choice. Now, do you want public domain models? Do you want interpretability? Do you want to own your own likeness and style in surrogate? Or do you want to leave it to google to own your data and run your simulation and program your life for you? Or do you just want "hulk smash"? You can't just ask. You must act! And not just act, you must act with bravery and wisdom. btw - just don't take offense to this, I'm more or less your pal and want your success.

No I don't think Google should own my data and program my life. But as far as I know, ai programs are not owned by Google but by companies who made them. I think the current ai programs that exist need to make sure they're only using artists and styles that allow them to use their work. Artists should be able to choose to opt in or out of the system. Otherwise the data and images needs to be opted out of the programs because they weren't given permission to use them. It's a little bit different when the artist and art is old and the original artist has passed away. Then we can talk about public domain work that is accessible to everyone, ai programs included. If it's in the public domain then yeh nobody can claim it and there aren't any issues using it. But if the artist is currently active and their work is being used without their permission to generate something, then that is objectively wrong and should be taken out of the programs.

My main band released a new song every month last year and it was really hard on us, mentally and physically, but we got some of the most engagement outside of our local area that we have ever had as a result because of the content monster. Now that we are going back to a more relaxed release cycle this year we are all but forgotten by everyone who showed interest in us last year.

Yeh its rough. And I keep seeing more and more people talking about how their business has slowed down and they need to start figuring out other work

@@AstralArtist it doesn't help that AI proponents are basically taking a "that's the market" position as if it is an enlightened mindset which will not ultimately end with them no longer being necessary or viable either.
