do you know why some of the old striped CP units have a red and white pattern on the back while others have a black and white pattern on the back? i figure it has something to do with the black and white patterned ones having the multimark still painted on em.
The units with red and white stripes are in CPs action red paint scheme. This scheme was first adopted in the late 60s and early 70s. The units with black and white stripes are in the multimark paint scheme first used in the mid 70s.

It's not a passenger train, it is a test train with CP passenger cars for testing.
