Thanks for the video. We have decided to buy the book for Geometry
Thank you for your time.
You're welcome!
Kumon- why does this face look sad i wondered as i got into doing workbook work from kumon recently
what about the shadding green part in the meeting book for the calendar
Hi, when you order these second hand online, do I need to make sure they come with the print cards? Is it just the older editions that need the print cards. Are the artworks printed straight on the page in the newer editions?
The edition that I show in this video has the works of art printed right on the pages of the book. No need to purchase any print cards. Hope this helps!
Hi, when you buy them second hand online do you need to make sure they come with the print cards or are those just the older editions? Or is it just book one that uses print cards, while two and three just has the artworks printed on the page? Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything when I order the books preowned. Thanks
Hi there, The editions that I show in my videos all contain the artwork directly on the pages of the book. Hope this helps!
Thank you!@@carolinescurriculumcorner466
Thank you. I’m going to use Saxton for my first grade class
You're welcome! Glad to help! 🙂
Where did you get the lab kit? Thanks.
You can purchase the lab kit from Nature's Workshop Plus. There used to be more options, but since this is an older edition of the book, the lab kits are harder to find now. www.workshopplus.com/products/physical-science-lab-kit If you are using a newer edition of the book, you can also find the lab kits at christianbook.com or Home Science Tools.
Would you say you would need the teacher's guide for this or could you go without?
Having the teacher guide/answer key makes checking the work so much easier, so yes, I recommend getting it. Some of the words are more difficult, and I would personally have a hard time knowing which answer was correct on my own.
What would be ideal for math for 1st grade or second grade?
If you are asking concerning Saxon math, I would go with Saxon 1, 2, or 3 depending on the child and where they are at in their math skills. You can take the placement test online to see which book would be best for them. :)
Hi - I am planning to switch my rising 6th grader to Zeta - coming from using Good and Beautiful spiral math program. I know that Math-U-See teaches things like multi-digit multiplication differently. I am worried this will confuse her. Have you run into any problems with making the switch at this stage in the curriculum? Thanks!
The only issue that came up for my daughter was when concepts were reviewed from previous books. Most of these review sections were fine, but some were a little different than how she had learned them. I just had her solve the problems in the way she had learned them. It really wasn't that big of a deal. Hope this helps!
Lovely and so cute.🐭
I agree!
I love it. I'm so glad Latin is being taught again, and children's books being translated into Latin. Latin is important because it is the basis of French, Spanish, Italian, and of much of English. Its grammatical complexity imparts discipline of thought and eloquence. But this doesn't mean it can't be fun. Indeed, after the Minimus books, pupils can move on to the Latin editions of Asterix the Gaul, and to Winnie ille Pu and Ursus nomine Paddington😊
Just bought my copy!😊
Of all the Latin you tried, what would be your choice for no Latin experience 5th grader?
Of the programs that I have seen personally, I would go with either Prima Latina (intended for grades 1-4) or Latina Christiana (intended for grades 3-5) from Memoria Press, depending on your student and what you think they can handle. You can check out samples of the first chapter of each of these on their website to see which would be better for your student to start with. Even though Prima Latina is for grades 1-4, it is a simpler introduction than Latina Christiana, which might be difficult for some kids to just jump into. I hope this helps!
I had used those series when I was home school and am plan to order those from Amazon.
Thank you thank you thank you! You don't know how hard it was for me to find a slow flip through of the Teaching Textbooks hard copy books.
You're very welcome! I'm so glad it was helpful for you! 🙂
Thank you for your wonderful videos. Please give us an update e on the higher grades.
I'm sorry that it's been such a long time since I last posted. Life is so busy! We are still going strong with our homeschooling, working our way through high school now with my daughter (going into 11th this coming school year!), and my son will be going into 7th grade. In some ways it's easier as they get older because they can work more independently, and in other ways it's harder, because I have to be able to teach/help with higher math and science!
Hi! Thanks for the flip through! I noticed that between units some lessons are missing? Do you know why that is? I can’t find any info on it. Thank you!
Hi there, If there are pages missing in my student workbooks in this video, it is probably because I tore out some of the lessons. The pages are perforated, so they can easily be removed if you wish. 🙂
Thank you for such a lovely and thorough walkthrough of this curriculum! I was hoping to find a review that showed more of the inside/projects included and this was perfect. 🙂
You're welcome! I'm so glad it was helpful for you!
I’ve never used Math U See. I see that there are many worksheets for each lesson. How do you lay out your schedule for this? Do kids do one worksheet per day until mastered? Do they do multiple per day? I’m not understanding how this lays out in a schedule. Thank you!
In the younger levels, we usually didn't use every one of the worksheets. We did one worksheet per day, with the test on Friday. I always made sure we did the Systematic Review sheets though, since those ones review the previous lessons. In the high school levels, I do have my daughter do every single worksheet (so she does do more than one per day sometimes) so she gets more practice on the harder concepts. I think they include so many worksheets so that in case your child has difficulty with the topic, there are options to spread the lesson out longer and get more practice (which I have done occasionally). I hope this helps!
Hey Caroline, question: what you suppose to write on the cover page (Min 2:22) for the Student Workbook: A B C D E F Test- I'm thinking of how many questions were right and wrong like 16/20 ..
Hi there🙂You can use this record page in whatever way works best for you. Like you said, keeping a score like 16/20 would work fine, or else just put a checkmark in each box to show that the work was done. I personally didn't use this page with my daughter, but I know there are some who like to keep a record of all the work done by their student. 😊
Thank you so much!!@@carolinescurriculumcorner466
Great choices!! We also have a 5th grader and it’s fun to see what works for someone else. Just subscribed. I also have a channel mainly about homeschooling and would love to be friends and connect here! Looking forward to how y’all’s school year goes.
Hey there 🙂 Thanks for stopping by! I also love seeing what everyone else is using for their homeschool. RUclips videos have helped me find curriculum that I have actually ended up using and enjoying! I hope you guys have a great homeschool year! ☺
@@carolinescurriculumcorner466 definitely so helpful to learn what others do. So thankful for resources like RUclips!
Did it affect your daughter’s previous learning with the ecclesiastical?
We used classical pronunciation from the beginning, so this worked fine for us. :)
Question: in the list of materials it says "master 1 and 2" I'm trying to figure out what exactly that means. Could you help me out?
Hi there! I don't have a physical copy of this book to look at right now (I've passed it along to another homeschool family), but if I remember correctly, the masters are found toward the beginning of the Teacher's Edition book. You can make copies of the masters pages and use them for the lessons that they are needed for. Hope this helps! :)
Thank you for sharing this review. It was helpful!
You're welcome!
Thank you for the helpful review. My children are 18, 15, 13 and 11. Your choices are similar to mine. We will be doing Story of the world apoligia science, Artistic pursuits, we do read aloulds for literature and read the Bible and disscuss it. Also duolingo. Only differences are we do wordy wise for vocabulary, spelling with a uk based school spelling list. Queen's home school or English of english for the thoughtful child for and a reason for writing for cursive. We also dip into some second hand sonlight resourses we got from a freind. We use Nelson International maths and CTC . My second oldest is working towards uk based igcse exams for some subjects, which means secular textbooks, but he has a Christan scieince tutor and we supplement with some other resourses. We don't think we will go this route with the younger two for various reasons . My oldest will be doing an apprenticeship starting soon so is just about graduated home schooling. My oldest is wor
Thank you for sharing! I love hearing about everyone's curriculum they are using!
Thank you. This is so helpful!
You're welcome!
Hi Caroline, I miss your reviews on different curriculums. Also would you do one for the upcoming year. Thanks!
What age would you use this curriculum with?
Apologia recommends using this book in 7th grade. I would recommend this book for an advanced 6th grader, or for a 7th or 8th grader.
We found it to advanced for our child who turned 11 in November, but about right for our child who turned 13 in August.
@@carolinescurriculumcorner466 so I'm guessing in the Scottish school system that would be approximately equivalent to primary 7 or 1st or 2nd year of secondary school. Or years 7,8 and 9 in the English system. Ages 11, 12 or 13?
@@joanner1427 I would generally recommend this for 12-14 year olds. If your child is advanced, then it could be used at 11 years old. My daughter used this curriculum when she was 12, and it worked well for her.
@@carolinescurriculumcorner466 yes I aggree it worked well last year for my son who was 13 last August when we begun . I was just trying to work out how American grades sit against British school years, it always confuses me! So guess is may be actually be closer to Scottish: 1st, 2nd and 3rd secondary school. English 8, 9 and 10. Ages : 12, 13 and 14! Maybey for kids planing to do exams they could do it alongside a key stage 3/iGcse text book to give the Christian perspective. But great as a stand alone course of course! We love the hands on activities and used 2 of the more basic topic based books for our 11 year old daughter last year, also very good!
Thank you for this flip through. We plan to begin this next year. Thanks!
You're welcome!
This is great 🎉 ps: I can't wait for the math u see pre algebra 1 review😊🎉❤
I am trying to understand why there is an A, B, and C. Are we supposed to do all 3? It seems kikr the topics micht be the same so you can just choose one? Why would they have given 3 different options for 4th grade material though? 🤔
Hi Rachel, A is for 4th grade, B is for 5th grade, and C is for 6th grade.
@@carolinescurriculumcorner466 Could you start with level b without doing A first? I have a 5th grader.
@@jessicajordan4222 Absolutely! There's no need to do Level A first.
Thank you for this video. How was Math u see pre algebra, what type of curriculum is, how lo g it takes to complete the program. Kind regards
Hi Lisa, My daughter did very well using this program. Math U See uses the mastery approach, meaning the student learns a topic very well before moving on to a new topic. There are 30 lessons in the book, each lesson taking about a week to finish, although you could take as long as you need for each lesson for the student to master it before moving on.
@@carolinescurriculumcorner466 Thank you so much, I will definitely go with mus. It will be my first time and would love to cont all the way. Thanks again🙋♀️📚
You're welcome!
Hello there! Does the Home Study Packet (answer key) have the test answers as well?
Yes, it does! :)
@@carolinescurriculumcorner466 Thank you!
Love your videos! Which Latin curriculum would you suggest for a 4th grader?
I actually love Song School Latin 1 and 2. Learning Latin through the songs and chants really helps the words and phrases stick. I still can sing many of the songs and chants even though it's been years since we used the books. They are intended for early elementary grades though, so your student might think it is too babyish for them. If so, then I would recommend starting with Prima Latina, especially if you will be learning the ecclesiastical pronounciation.
Would you continue using Saxon math with your son in the future? I noticed that your 9th grader is using Math you See? Which one do you recommend. I am struggling to find something that works for my daughter. We have been using Saxon math for a while but it takes her so long to finish her lesson. I know that she does better with a spiral curriculum so it’s hard to find something I can continue in the coming years.
Yes, we plan to continue using Saxon with my son. I personally really like the Saxon method, but it doesn't mean that other math programs are bad or won't work. What grade level are you using with your daughter right now? I have always customized the lessons, whether they be the K-3 level or the above, to have the student be doing about half of the work that the curriculum wants them to do. My son currently does the odd numbers of Saxon 65. In the K-3 levels, we only did one side of the worksheet each day, not both.
Thanks for replying to my message. We are doing 7/6. I just saw that some people do even or odd problems. I’m going to try that. I really like Saxon and is the only program I’ve seen to be more comprehensive and goes all the way to high school. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks so much for uploading. I really enjoy watching your curriculum videos.
You're welcome!
Prima Latina verses Minimus for an 11-year-old beginner, which would you choose?
If you don't mind the ecclesiastical pronounciation (on the CD/DVDs), I would start with Prima Latina. Have a great day! 😃
Thank you.
You're welcome! 🙂
Thank you so much for doing this flip through. It was very helpful!😀
You're welcome! 🙂
How is it IEW student intensive A going? Thank you Caroline !
We completed the course, and it went very well. It was perfect for where my son was at. He would have had a hard time doing it in 3rd grade, but for 4th grade, it was great. We are planning on doing the Continuation Course Level A this school year. :)
This was super helpful! Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Do you still have these books?
Yes, I do.
@@carolinescurriculumcorner466 Have you looked at the updated version (3rd edition) and have any thoughts on it? We've not used it yet, but are considering the older version over the newer one. Just wanted to get your take on it.
So helpful!!!
Checking this out because we may be doing this at a co-op. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome!
Great review! Thank you for taking the time to help me and others!
Thank you! I'm so glad if it was helpful for you!
Hi Caroline, if I remember correctly in one your responses you said you used hooked on phonics on teaching your children to read. If you don't mind me sharing which version did you get? the one with the levelled 1-5 box sets with accompanying cassettes or the original version of 1992-1993 ? thanks
I used the 1-5 boxed set with cassettes because someone had given them to me (we didn't use the cassettes though, just the other components). You can check out the latest version at www.hookedonphonics.com. It has full-color workbooks and a fun app.
Hi, it's me again with another question :) thank you for taking your time reading and answering them. I wanted to ask you since you've used all three levels. Is there a significant difference between the older edition which has 32 lessons (the one in the video) and the current classic edition with 36 lessons- the red book (grades k-3 BOOK TWO) the one you have used after this one?
I haven't noticed a huge difference between the editions that I have used, except that there are more lessons in the newer edition.
Thank you so much for showing this in great detail! You’ve helped me make a well informed decision for the next school year. My daughter has ADHD and test anxiety. She’s 8yrs old. I’ve got her caught up and ahead in reading, science, math, and social studies. She’s struggled with writing sentences, spelling, and reading comprehension. I know it’s odd but she can read on a 4th grade level, do multiplication word problems, simple double digit multiplication, count money, time word problems and knows 38 states capitals and abbreviations. She’s very much a hands on learner. This will be perfect for her and my teaching style. I figured out quickly using interactive notebooks help her learn. We did spelling a little the last two years but not in great detail. I wanted something that breaks the rules down so she could learn to spell anything. This year we’ll concentrate mostly on her problem areas and review everything we’ve learned this year so she’ll stay on track or get just a little ahead. I usually keep going on all the subjects she loves until we get stuck lol 😂! If I sense some frustration, I pull back. I pray this works for us because I’ve tried 8 different spelling curriculums. I don’t want her to memorize words. Thanks for this video!!
I'm so glad this was helpful for you! I hope it works out well for your daughter this coming school year!
I can’t find the same edition student work text you’ve shown here but can find second hard answer key. Best to go with the updated edition so I can get the work-book component easily?
I usually use whatever edition I can find - sometimes it's an older edition, sometimes it's the latest edition. :)
Hi Caroline, would one need to purchase Abeka's corresponding Homeschool Language Arts urriculum Lesson Plans to teach the grammar portion? or work-text for the grammar portion is self explanatory for the student to understand?
I was able to teach all of these books with just the worktext and the answer key. They do a pretty good job of explaining things right in the textbook. Very rarely, I looked something up online.
