@darkhorsejames, Slow down with the negativity until you try it. No crab was wasted. It was delicious and satisfying and brought great joy to the family. When I’m lazy to prep and cook crab, I’ll have it the old fashion way of steaming or boiling it with lemon and butter on the side.

Yes, you will need a shellfish license which will encompass also crabbing, clamming and mussels just to name a few. Please read official regulations found on Oregon’s Department of Fish and Wildlife for beach closures for toxicity and limits just to be on the safe side.

I would recommend wearing a GoPro instead on kayaks. These glasses are not waterproof and have a short battery life. I typically get 4 hours of continuous recording with my GoPro enclosure.

Yeah, they’re pretty nice. I haven’t been back out in awhile. Gooseneck Barnacles are limited to only 10 here in Oregon. They taste alright, Europeans love them more then us Pacific Northwest residents.

Smelt dipping happens once or twice a year around March on the banks of the Cowlitz River in Washington. You’ll have to visit wdfw.wa.gov to see approved smelt dipping dates. You’ll need a Washington fishing license to participate in 2025 seasons and further on.
