Delvine Bralette: Longline Hack Part 1
The Black fabric on the left doesn't have the visible lines of fabric fibres. What's that attributed to?
It is a tricot knit, the loops of fibers aren't really obvious. Probably also such a small diameter it won't be as obvious as say a cotton jersey.
@primrosedawn9954 Thanks. So is that fabric made of polyester sand spandex, polyester, and Lycra. Micropolyester, etc?
@@IEXECUTIVE I believe these were both nylon/spandex
Very helpful . Thanks for posting it
Shared it to my fb page. Thanks for sharing your skills with the world, Cassie.
Thanks so much, I appreciate it.
Those sets at the end!!!
Thank you! It's really fun making coordinating sets 😁
My number one reason for making my own underwear is the composition of the fabrics used. Its becoming harder and harder (and incredibly more expensive) to buy cotton underwear. Specifically in the boyshort style. So thats my number one reason. I have not considered the gusset position / length before but now that this video has brought it to my attention, I will. When I started to make my own underwear, i found doing fabric bands to be a lot easier a finish to do, personally, and of course its a lot cheaper than elastic, especially soft underwear elastic. But also, im sure everyone has noticed with their store bought underwear that the elastic gives out long before the actual underwear does, so I believe that the choice of fabric bands over elastic finish will mean the underwear lasts a lot longer. Im curious if anyone else has had the same observation.
Fabric choice is definitely an important reason too! I also prefer natural fibers and agree that it is becoming harder and harder to find them in stores now. Elastic definitely does wear out quickly, especially when clothes are dried in the dryer.
This looks great! I love all the options!
great tip .tks so much
I'd like to see video on how to choose the correct Annika size. None of the videos I've watched mention sizes or sizing. Thanks
Hello Anne. Yes, this video is just about sewing the bra. If you have questions about choosing a size, feel free to email me. My email is at the bottom of each page of the pattern.
buenos días profe habrá alguna posibilidad de traducirlo en español le agradecería
This bra is so beautiful! I haven’t seen since elementary school classes but I’m so interested to make comfortable clothing tailored to my body . I have a question: I would like the bra to be lined with silk for skin comfortability, is that possible with this pattern?
Also, with this hack does the cup become different because of the wire seam being shaped differently in the pattern ?
@@mialuna6129 I haven't worked with silk for a bra, but I think you could use it on the bias for lining the cup. The wireline shape looks different due to the adjustments for the lace, but the fit will be the same and won't affect the fit of the cup once the wires are put in.
This is so helpful! I had bought the pattern and wa thrilled to find the sew along
I'm so glad it helped. Please let me know if you have any questions.
@@primrosedawn9954 I see you have some support groups on Facebook and the like, I appreciate your reply. I may need to increase the cup size slightly (I know crazy, I am a 42 gg sometimes). I am making a muslin, this is my 3rd or 4 big ish sewing project. If there were any videos about how to successfully alter the pattern to fit, the whole reason we are making customs ones for many of us, that would be incredibly welcome. I love your style and the style of this video. It is very welcoming and friendly.
it doesn't appear to have a mechanism that stabilizes it from turning away from you when you pin into it...was wondering how you dealt with it if it constantly moves away from you as you are trying to wor/drape/pin on it? it seems like that would be frustrating?
You are correct, and yes sometimes that can be annoying. There is also a hole in the bottom to use a standard dress form stand, so utilizing that makes it wobble a bit less.
Thank you for this tutorial. Have you ever tried using a piece of Tear away stabilizer under the fabric when stitching. That will help the fabric not go squirly.
If the grommets are a little too high (hauteur), sometimes it will crooked. Try different grommets with different fabrics and ply. After practicing with different ones on different projects, I realized that there is a few things that help getting better. Good luck and keep on your wonderful work.
Ayayyayyaya Muchas gracias I have viewed EVERY SINGLE method on RUclips. Yours is the only one #1 I finally understood. Cannot thank you enough.
You are welcome! So glad it helped you.
More people need to know the gusset thing. I thought it was just me until I started hanging out with people who sew underwear!
It's weird, right? My next video will be more about the gusset, and how to adjust a pattern for increasing the gusset at the front.
Love this info. And I'm going to look up your tutorials for all the problems you listed in this video! Thank you!
The custom fit is absolutely my favorite part of the whole thing!
The sound fades in and out
When do you use this? I'm trying to picture the actual article of clothing.
I use it on underwear around the waist and leg openings. It is an alternative to picot elastic.
Thrilled to have a new wireless bra pattern. I struggle with wires! Thanks for this. Imma jump over and buy the pattern today!
Yay! Good luck!
Thank you for this video, have the pattern. Will follow along! Xoxo
Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions.
Is the bust accurate enough to do bra fitting? How’s the accuracy of the breast root?
I would say yes. I made sure to wear a bra that gave me a shape I liked. But that said, our bodies are squishy, so minor adjustments will still need to be made to the cups. I would say the breast root is accurate.
@@primrosedawn9954 thank you! So helpful!
When you say bra tulle is that different than regular tulle?
Yes, regular tulle (like for a fluffy skirt) would be too stiff and scratchy. Bra tulle has a similar diamond or hexagon structure but it soft to wear against the body. It does have a bit of give, so if you have a large bust you would get more support from sheer cup lining. You can find bra tulle from Emerald Erin, Bra Builders, and Tailor Made Shoppe.
@@primrosedawn9954 thank you for responding!!! I appreciate it!
I was actually looking at my lace stash the other day wondering how I was gonna turn it into bras lol
You answered my question about fitting pants/shorts. I don’t have big legs but I do have problems fitting rise and hips so maybe this dress form would help.
Thank you
спасибо
I appreciate the info on where you get your fabrics and straps.
This is nifty!!! I like the self closed look!
Have you tried different needles when sewing with knit fabrics to help avoid knotting/bunching up when you back stitch? I've found I have to use stretch or jersey needles for some, but depending on the ratio of poly & spandex sometimes i have to use universal. Thanks for the video!!
I'm going to try this with a woven fabric.
Thank you ! Very helpful !
Thank you !
Thank you. Very useful video.
Thank you.
Thank you for showing us how to do this! I will totally use this technique in the future. Approx what lengths did you cut for the elastic straps?
Thank you! The lengths vary by size, and are listed in the pattern.
Very interesting product! Thanks for the review!
I am planning to purchase one for lingerie also, thank you for this video.
Thank you for this review, it was very interesting. And I happen to live near headquarters- so definitely worth thinking about!
Great solution! Beautiful results! ❤️🪡🧵✂️
Very nice
Oh good because I was planning to order this short
Brilliant tutorial :) thanks for sharing
Whats the exact name of fabric you used?
The fabric I used in the sewing example is cotton/spandex jersey
This is great, and kind of seems like magic to me. Great video, thank you.
Do you have a tutorial for your boyshorts?
Hello! I do not have any videos for sewing my boyshort patterns. I do have a blog tutorial for adjusting the leg opening. www.primrosedawn.com/blog/fitting-underwear-boyshort-leg-opening-adjustment. Is there a specific question I can help you with?
If you're using a Juki you may be able to switch to straight stitch by flipping the switch inside the bobbin area- this would eliminate the fabric sucking into the feeddogs...
Using "leaders" and "enders" (like a lot of quilters do for their piecing work) might help you get a good back stitch. Otherwise you can use tiny stitches at the start and end only of the seam or ... Start your seam a little way in (just a few stitches' worth) and sew towards what would be the "start" of your seam, pivot 180 degrees and sew to the other end as normal but don't sew off, pivot again 180 degrees at the end of the seam and sew "back" (but in a forward direction, because you turned) over the last few stitches of your seam. Or... Finally - if that's too much bother - stitch as usual for a few stitches at the start, raise your presser foot with needle up and pull the fabric straight towards you so the needle is back at the start of the seam again. Now lower your foot and sew to the end of the seam where you repeat that procedure and sew right off at the end. The tension is released enough and distance is so small for just a couple of stitches it still looks quite tidy at the start and end of the seams. (All tricks from sewing on antique machines that only do straight stitch and don't even have reverse.) I hope that helps. :-)
Great video. Thank you!
