101-45918 Knight Road, Sardis Video Tour!!
My father was with the military helping with rescue and sandbagging etc. and was based around the Wild Duck Inn at that time.
It's been awhile Doug, give your family my regards. Great job on putting together the clip.
I was the first born of five. Mom and dad often reminded me I was born in the year of the flood, Vancouver 1948.
Fantastic footage thanks for sharing, and God bless all who went through it.
If you live on a flood plain you shouldnt whine if it floods
👍👍So it looks like a 60-70 cycle for major floods on the Fraser. 1894, 1948 and 2021. 1972 was a smaller more controlled flood but Mother nature will do as she will in the future.
Good point. Actually there were floods every 20 to 30 years (give or take) in BC and NW Washington since records were kept. This one being the most devastating.
There was also another big flood in 1972. Kamloops was highly affected.
My parents house in Matsqui Village had 8 ft of water in their house
"promo sm" 🌷
Beautiful property… and big props to the drone operator! Really great video. Love the lighting and camerawork.
Price please ?
Hello di how much price ?
How much is this?
What about the option of putting a rentable suite downstairs.
A really beautiful house! Graeting
Very beautiful house
Move please mumu mumu moo moo please move move move why is why is Nomu why why
How much does this cost?
It's be happening for hundreds of years nothing to do with global warming climate change.
Price please
How did the high water marks of ‘48 compare to same of ‘72?
2021 I asked where is higher ground? (in the dark) they said go to the high school. What high school? in the dark I'm going looking for a high school? Filled with people fighting about wearing and not wearing masks? Gas tank is 3/4 full I'm not wasting it looking for a school in the dark/ as gas stations were running out of gas/ I slept in my car in front of the gov liquor store I knew they would protect that building and I got free internet over nite... then and now
I was born in the vantage flood
yes...great for the record. trying to blame this last one on climate change like this event has never happened before.
Considering that flood events are happening with greater frequency world wide, then yes, climate change is involved.
I am curious why the cities allow building and development in a flood area. I guess the flood in 1948 was caused by global warming. Nature has a memory sooner or later it ll come back to its natural state.
And nobody thought “move”?? Evidentially not.
Great job!! Thank you
I find the comments by the people that lived through it were very endearing in their nature. Such as when the said modestly things like. “You would rather not have it a second time in your life” or “ its like fighting in a war,. Once is all you would want of that” . I do miss the stoic nature of the people of that generation. Why are people different now? Have we been living too easy for too long to have that kind of perspective on life.
I think you're too hard on modern people. There were a lot of heroes in the flood of southern Alberta in 2013.
Very well done!! Thank you for posting this video. Tragic events bring people together indeed. Some will never forget.
It happened numerous times before it happened again and it will happen again, it's a flood plain in the Frazer River Valley, it's got nothing to do with Climate change, it's a flood, sad for what's happened but it will happen again.
Shows the weather comes in cycles global warming is bullshit
Amazing footage and information considering we are told the 2021 floods are the "worst in history" and all due to "climate change". If so, what was the excuse in 1948?
Spring flooding along the Fraser is normal and expected. Fall flooding, not so much, but why worry about the details if it fits your narrative.
_"If so, what was the excuse in 1948?"_ Ans: the unvaccinated 😏
@@Combatpzman there was also a flood due to the Nooksack River overflowing in November of 1990, so… narratives 🙄
@@alkivari9491 Not exactly on the same scale though. It's not about floods happening, its how much flooding.
@@Combatpzman par for the course when you’re in the midst of an interglacial period
It is always a good idea to build where there has been a flood before.
😉
1894 was worse yet! Check out the flood levels.
We had global warming in 1948?
We have had global warming since the ice age.
Yes.
11,000 years ago, North America was covered by a sheet of ice 100 feet thick. Since then, the world has been warming. Man made global warming? Hmmmm seems like bullshit.
Tell Doug that he and his assistants did a fantastic job of producing this documentary! Excellent footage, and interviews with folks that can never be duplicated! A mighty big 'thank you' to all!
There is no drying out houses of today with all the plastic sheeting in the houses of today. Black mold is a killer.
Which begs the question: global warming had not been invented then, so could it just be a lie.
Global warming is a way for the government to up taxes.
Considering that events like this are happening more frequently world wide, you're incorrect.
Simple! No.
Your are correct
Kind of ....the climate is changing like it has for eons....the oceans have risen 360 ft since the last glacial maxum...99 % of the ice on earth during the last GM has already melted actually by 6000 BC....the latest round of doomsday hysteria is just that designed like freetrade and safety regulations to even out tge distribution of income amongst us working class folks ...ie make the living standards around the world equal and thereby end economic migration ...forever...cheers
Isn't this land the Indigenous/Native peoples land ?
Yes and it used to be sumas lake
Truth is if if was not Canadian, it would be American land right now.
Whats that got to do with the flood?
@@calvinduchaine5501 You answered your question.
Prior to European settlers the Natives didn’t have any land “Ownership” but every year the Haida would come down from the North and war upon local bands and take over their settlements. Tribal warfare is not actually superior to all other forms of displacing populations is it? I know it’s a popular Hollywood romantic notion to suggest that Natives of North America were all harmonious and one with everything and all others. But human beings are all fallible in the same ways. Some individuals more than others and groups of people are a different potential than individual people. Let’s not fall for romantic fallacies. All that being said. This is a story about how nature periodically reclaiming an area of land back to its natural state. Not a story about race relations.
An irony that a story like this would be presented by "Buy Fraser Valley Real Estate".
HAIL TO THE BARROWTOWN BAGGERS
I remember the water marks on some of the barns around Greendale.
I grew up in a house in Matsqui flats that had water marks just under the roof.
Thank you for sharing this video. Prayers to the Fraser Valley.
Very good thanks.
There was a house in Fraser mills one of the company houses where the houses were built on stilts and skirted. The floors were well above the ground. One house had a Salmon swim in one door , across the rooms and out the other door. Serious no lie. My Grandfather and family lived in one of those houses.
pretty stupid they did not build levees high enough to anticipate flooding. likely real estate agents were advising them.
like anyone should listen to a real estate agent.
I have a picture of my mother in a boat in Greendale in 1948. She always said History repeats itself every 50 to 75 years. She was so right ! God bless you for this video
Great job Doug My Dad has some stories he could have added.
What awesome footage! Thank you
