Second Attempt at Flyfishing for Koi.
I went back to try and land one of the huge koi that I saw last time. I did hook a bigger fish, but it quickly threw the hook. I ended up landing another of the smaller koi. Both bites were on a bead head pheasant tail nymph, fished under a dry fly indicator.

First Time Flyfishing for Koi Carp
Просмотров 2787 часов назад
Some of the koi here were absolutely massive. I caught by far the smallest fish in the pool, and it was still pretty solid. I fished a small nymph under a Royal Wulff dry fly, with a fish eventually taking the nymph. I had a landing net, but it was not within reach when I went to land the fish, and I did a very poor job of landing it by hand as its tail was too thick to easily get my hand around.

Snaring HUGE, Foot-Long Marron. Crawfish, Crawdad, Freshwater Lobster, Crayfish.

My son and I try snaring marron for the first time. We get three legal size marron, with one beast a foot long (300mm) and 130mm body length (90mm is the legal body length for "trophy waters"). We got another at 120mm, and the third was 90mm. We made a lot of mistakes, missed some big marron and learned a lot for next time. I used my new GoPro 12 and the stabilisation didn't seem as good as on ...

I didn't have much time this day and headed out for a quick morning session. I planned to arrive at 4.30am but after a few delays, didn't get to the water until 5.30am. Luckily the fish were in a hurry too, and I hooked a nice brown 48 seconds after my first cast.

Nice Bream and Mulloway on a 3 Weight Fly Rod
Просмотров 485Год назад
I catch a solid bream and a few small mulloway fly fishing with a 3 weight. Some of the mulloway are not shown as I caught them in the dark and the footage was unusable.
Nice 😊
I’m surprised, I would have thought small brooks like that in winter would be dry in summer, they would be here in SA. Looks like instead they hold a healthy stock of fish! Great video,Ta
Thanks mate. A lot of these small streams do dry up during the summer but when the water is flowing down them the fish move up from the lake or river that they flow into.
@@winterwolf7249 ah right, that does explain it! Looks like you’ve got some really decent fly fishing over there, your videos are fantastic
I am surprised to see the egg patern working well here in WA. Hard work but rewarding fishing. My guess as to the location(s): Logue Brook feeder or Collie River??? Excellent video. Thank you.
Это сущее мучение, рабачить нахлыстом в таких условиях.
It is not easy and takes more patience than I usually have.
Really enjoying your videos, you have such a great life.
Hey mate what flies and setup do you find works well in these dams? Loving the videos
Hi mate, I use Woolley Buggers on a sink tip line sometimes. Small wets, like Black and Peacocks, are good. Sometimes I cast and retrieve these wets and sometimes I drift them under an indicator. In the winter, in the creeks, I use egg flies like the Clear Drift eggs.
Hey mate, I went for a fly fish with my dad a week or two ago, I saw you fishing at the mouth of this creek, I didn’t catch any and talking to the other fisherman there didn’t seem like you had either, I was just wondering what flies you recommend for spots like this and other skinny water spots this time of year, and also how long trout will remain up the creeks to catch? I was slightly further upstream than you casting at some fish we spotted earlier in the day, not sure if you saw us though.
Hi mate, cool, come and say g'day next time. During winter I use the clear drift egg flies. 8mm orange ones work well most times. I have had to order them from NZ or the US (you need to order hooks for them too as they are just the rubber egg - Tiemco TMC 2457 hooks in size 12 are good). Woolly Bugger wet flies work sometimes and smaller wets like Black and Peacocks or Bassano's Woolley Worm. Last year, when there had been a lot more rain, I was still catching trout in the creeks in December. I hope you get a few!
super nice, where is this spot please??
Thanks. This is in the dams and streams South of Perth.
Nice wildy!
You are an inspiration, I reckon I have a fly rod out in the shed someplace. Think I'll go look for it.😊
What sort of fliys did you catch the fish on .
Egg flies are good at this time of year as well as small wets like Black and Peacocks.
Good stuff, keep the videos coming.
I was fishing off that exact rock the other day 😂 logues is hella low atm aye
Very low indeed, mate.
Monster brown
Great clips keep them coming

Lovely brown
Thanks hope to see you on the water
Great vid what weight line were you using on the lake. Can you disclose location
G'day. I use a 3 weight for dry flies on trout. I use a 5 for streamers, usually a 6 if it is windy. I like a sink tip line for fishing woolley buggers and streamer flies, but a floating line is ok too. This was Harvey Dam in the winter.
Great see a father, son and pooch enjoying the outdoors
Wow🤍🤍🤍🧡🧡🧡🤍
Nice one mate
Thanks 👍
Hey mate just wondering what flies you are using here? And what dam it is?
Hi mate, I often use a size 10 or 12 Black and Peacock under the indicator. I have also used a fly called the J.W. Debutante (which I ordered online from the US). This fly has worked very well for me in Harvey Dam when rainbows are cruising the shallows and edges. Nymphs also work. If I'm using a dry as an indicator, I usually use a Royal Wulff, as they are pretty buoyant and fairly easy to see with the white wings. As for location, I have had really good sessions at times in all the dams from Waroona down to Big Brook Dam near Pemberton.
Thanks mate I will have to give it a try
Cracking fish mate. Never caught a trout before - fish mostly in the Swan. Looking to get down to the SW to give it a crack. What time of year would you recommend for someone who fishes from a kayak?
Hi mate, any time of year is worth a try, but you may have to fish deep as the shallow margins heat up over summer. Always a chance of some big redfin by-catch too.
Some fine looking browns...well done.
Great video, what Dam/lake are you in?
Hi mate, thanks. I fish all the dams/lakes from Waroona down to Wellington and Big Brook Dam. They are all good at times and in different places.
Nice fish on the fly mate ! Love the sound track Fogerty 🤘👍
Thanks 👍
any dam in specific where this is mate
Hi mate, any of the well known dams around Waroona, Harvey and down to Pemberton hold trout.
Where is that stream? Looks in the Waroona Dam area.
All I have really used are streamers and I’ve caught a few Redfin and one rainbow. I have tied plenty of my own nymphs but I don’t know where and when to use them
What flies do you use, I am just a kid from the south west and I’ve just started properly getting into fly fishing.
Hi mate, I use woolly buggers a lot. Often on a sink tip line, but a floating line is OK if that's what you have. The fish in this video were caught on egg flies, which are good during the spawning time of year (even in lakes, but especially in the rivers and creeks). You can buy glo-bugs and other egg flies, but I was using Clear Drift eggs. I had to order them direct from Clear Drift in the US. They are a soft rubber/plastic, so the fish seem to hold onto them longer. I fished the egg about three or four feet below a strike indicator. I tried the New Zealand strike indicator for the first time, and it was great. It allows you to quickly and easily adjust the depth. You can order the NZ strike indicator kits from most fly shops. Good luck with it!
Thanks mate
@@outdooradventureswa8436 Hi, Russell from the Australian Trout Foundation here. Not sure if you know, but there are two events coming up. The first is Troutfest at Drakesbrook reservoir on 21st Oct, and the second is Pemberton Trout Festival at Big Brook reservoir on Nov 5th. At both events there will be tuition on fly casting, demonstrations of fly tying, and brochure guides available on where and how to fish for trout in the SW. Plus many experienced fly fishers who will be happy to share their knowledge with you.
Nice trout, beautiful bit water
Great video bloke. I from tassie. Try fly fishing over here in Western Australia, but Inot doing much luck at the moment lol
Maybe one day!
hey mate where was this?
Harvey Dam mate
I can't believe there are mulloway at that spot !!! wow !
I wasn't expecting anything like that. I went there after mullet.
@@winterwolf7249 I was there last Friday and there were huge schools of mullet there by the wooden docks. Couldn’t get any to take my streamer but there were heaps. I also didn’t expect mullet there to be honest !
Sometimes there are huge mullet above the rocks in the freshwater section of river. I hooked one on a tiny nymph but after a few long, powerful runs, it broke me off on a branch.
Very well done mate
Thanks mate, the big one was a nice surprise
Nice mate, where's this?
Thanks mate. This was on the dams around the Waroona and Harvey areas.
What sort of fly and line are you using there? Dry or wet fly?
A black woolley bugger and a sink tip line
This location looks great ! Is fly fishing in WA worthwhile ?
Hi mate. It can be tough at times, but worthwhile for sure.
Great video, some nice reddies on fly 👌 awesome to see the young fella catch one too 🎣
Thanks mate, it was a good day out.
Thanks
Great looking spot mate, whereabouts in WA is this ?
Hi mate, if you explore the freshwater dams south of Perth you will find some nice places.
