An interesting anecdote shared by Vidwan Palghat T R Rajamani (Mridangam Legend Palghat Mani Iyer's son) about a question posed by Kanjira Wizard G Harishankar about a common korvai for 35 Thalas. Unfortunately the answer to the question is yet to be figured out. In case you get hold of it, please do share it.

Only Mamundia pillai or Harishankar could have answered this. One chance you can still take is by sending this to Trichy Sankaran or T.K.Murthy or U.K.Sivaraman. They have learned from the Thanjavur school from Vaidyanatha iyer and Dakshinamoorthi pillai.
God didn't want to reveal the secret to humans, that is why he had to take Harishankar back so early.
This question in English:- . "The Sooladi Sapta thalams Multiplied with the 5 jaathis, become 35 thalams totally. Now we have 35 people starting at the same count, putting each thalam in their hands. So we have 35 talams running simultaneously. Now, we should play a Korvai, which would begin when all 35 of them begin and the Korvai should end when all the 35 talams come to samam at the same time. For e.g.,if one thalam is 8 beats and the other is 3 beats, both will end at the same time after their LCM, which is 24 beats. Similarly it should be done for 35 talams..."
But if the gathis are different, you can arrive at a shorter LCM. For instance if you play the Adi talam in tishra gathi and the Tisra Eka in Chatusra Gathi, won't the LCM be 8 beats only? You can fit two cycles of Tisra Eka in one cycle of Adi Talam Tisra Gathi.
@@rosybuddy28 Since the question is on 35 thalams, I presume all are in chatusra gathi, as gathi bedhams occur only in the 175 thalams, when you multiply each of the 35 thalas into 5 gathis each, thus making 35x5=175. Regarding your second point, adhi thalam thisra gathi in one avarthanam has 12 beats and Thisra Ekam in 1-kalai chatusra gathi has 3 beats, so the LCM of 12 & 3would be 12 and not 8!! Hope this clarifies.
But i do agree that the question does give rise to ambiguities as the exact wordings of Harishankar can only be known to him unfortunately. It's not clear if the 35 thalas mentioned here are the basic ones in chatusra gathi or any of the 35 from the 175!!!!
@@arvraghu well I consider one beat of tisra gathi to be 6 notes while the same beat in chatusra gathi as 4. Basically my point was you can fit two cycles of tisra eka in one avarthana of tisra gathi adi.
@@arvraghu well since he didn't mention it, it would be an interesting exercise to put the thalas in different gathis and see if a more rational time frame can be achieved.
Can you translate that to English ?
