Had they followed up on the first US based arrest, the legal process could have forced the mental health evaluation it's taken them far too long to realise Lisa desperately needs. The court would have taken the results of that evaluation into account as part of the sentencing process, for a first-time offender. The chances of Lisa voluntarily checking herself in for an evaluation before something bad happens which means the authorities step in and force it upon her are close to zero. In bailing her out and setting her loose upon the wider world the chances of her doing something awful to someone totally has increased exponentially. She's already shown herself capable of violence on more than one occasion, so it's only a matter of time now before something terrible happens. When (not if!) she hurts someone else, the parents will be finally forced to accept their responsibility for having neglected to get her issues addressed many, many years ago. I suspect the sheer shame of their local community knowing just how negligent to the point of enabling they have been will force them to sell up and move across country to live in San Francisco for a fresh start while their miracle baby serves out the inevitable jail term we can all see coming.

OP is a typical stupid college student with naivete common with woman after college. Don’t go getting your panties in a bunch. I made sure my two daughters finished college and insisted they pursue their dreams and not mine. The only expectations I had is do your best, don’t whine about life ain’t ( cause it never was ) and don’t blame failure or bad decisions on others. That said how did OP expect her parents react to college? Was she the room growing up and didn’t just explain in detail how they thought? While finishing college did she a plan and consider not moving back home to that environment. I find this story impossible to believe, at least in the US, or likely any other western country. I cannot believe that a suit to force a landlord to pay for a tenants education would even be admitted to court.

Put the house up for sale, warn any prospective buyer about the current tenant and why they may want to evict her, when sold put the money in your bank account until you can find another house far from it to buy for an investment. Remember: No good deed goes unpunished.
