Asian immigrants didn't immigrate to Canada to get to know its indigenous peoples. Asian immigrants migrated to Canada to enjoy the opportunities and benefits given by the Canadian government, which is a result of the colonial, White, European-descent settlers.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Personally, I don't want to become an immigrant/minority ✌️ I don't want to live in an environment where my culture, language, appearance and skin color is a target of abuse from the majority population. Additionally, I don't want to assimilate to another culture. I am happy with my current community where people around me looks, talks and acts like me. To minorities and immigrants, prejudice will never go away so if you are really intent in staying in your current environment, learn to respond and defend yourselves.

This is an ongoing 'work in progress'. "Othering" based on race IS racist, born of ignorance and fear. My nephews are fourth generation hapa yonsei. Their productive lives add to the community picture of forging forth. Education, travel and intermingling can halt discrimination, 'othering'...let's start early in schools and have exchange programs with kids of other countries.
