7.5 pounds of propellant, getting my big motor fix in! SMASH July 31 2022 launch.
No longer in production.
Low power and mid power launching beats going to work for the day! :) Much more economical as well.
Just built mine last winter. First hpr. Still sitting there waiting to fly but sites are limited in fl
What is range of one of these rockets.
I'm not sure what you mean? How far laterally it went? The high wind took it little over a mile away, but it traveled farther than that as I pointed it into the wind slightly. I can also fit a motor with 5 times the impulse in it.
👍👍🚀
Try IPA on gloved finger to smooth out the fillets next time
That's what I normally do but I was all out of IPA. I never have the patience to do a great paint job.
Cool flight.
Looks like a great day for flying ! Those were some cool launches ! Sorry to see the first couple having some issues .
that green ring is NOT a motor block....it is a spacer that goes in front of the forward centering ring.
How do we join? Where is the launch site? I am in.
This was of course michiana rocketry's launch, here's their site. Michiana rocketry www.michianarocketry.org/ Mostly I launch with SMASH though, as I don't like cold weather and smash launches during the summer. SMASH www.smashrocketry.org/
@@TheRocketSmith What part of Michigan is this launch site located? Thank you!
@@alfredindy8058It's as far south west as you can get and still be in Michigan. Three Oaks MI. Address is on their site under Map
@@TheRocketSmith Wow! That is a long ways for me. I live by East Lansing. I appreciate your reply. It is a shame that they lost MIS as a launch site. That was more centrally located.
@@alfredindy8058 That's the Jackson Model Rocket club, I've launched with them too. They launch near Manchester, MI now.
I might have missed it but did you figure out a cause for that first burn through? Or was it just a matter of rockets doing rocket stuff?
Think I cut the delay too much, but I'm not sure yet. It said it had a 5-18 second delay and I only cut it 9 seconds according to my CTI-DAT tool, but the instructions list a LOKI-DAT tool that is no where on loki's site, and the site says to use the CTI tool. Everything was fine as far as the casing went.
Some rough luck there at the beginning. Looks like a fun event though.
My ADHD always kicks in hard on the first launch and that's where I make mistakes, this year I'm handling it much better and used much cheaper rockets to get back in the groove. Besides rockets blowing up is great content!
I saw these kits in 1992 at a hobby shop. Usually they stock estes and Centauri kits and nothing more. I saw it and asked store owners what was it, he took me back to his shop and showed me his high powered monster rocket and I was amazed. 🤔🤙
Glad you were able to get that sumo together! That piston was the bane of my build. I have launched mine. I have to say that I got it back in one piece but my ejection was incredibly hard. Thankfully it has the elastic. Probably from such a smooth, tight, seal and maybe a little bit too much BP.
Great review. Definitely install rail buttons for a rail guide and an ejection charge baffle, if you don't go electronic deployment. I'd glass the tube for L- Motors.
Nice launch and channel. We visited a different club launch and saw that chute and i wasn't able to find out where they got it. Now we know, thanks for that and your content.
I can't wait to see those rockets fly !
That was as a spicy thrust to weight.🎉 Can't tell from the vid did it loose a button on take off or just all rod whip?
I honestly don't know, the rocket landed in a large pond of water and promptly sunk :(
:( indeed. I tell myself rocketry teaches something deep about the ephemeral nature of reality or whatnot, it doesn't seem to help though@@TheRocketSmith
You might do one to focus on the frenzy, I think that was the one. Parts you added to lengthen, what you ordered for the e-bay or what you did to hack together your own from parts.
Nice 👍
Great review on your projects! You have definitely proven that in snow country, winter time is in fact the “building season”. Congrats on that Arcas! Great win!!!!
YAY! See you Saturday!
I took Launch Lab's 38mm upgrade, a stock Big Daddy, length of 3" tube, glassed the airframe and fins, put in a kevlar harness, and rail buttons. It's a lot of fun.
Great setup !
That's big I uses two of those big daddy cones to make a V2 rocket
At the tail end of video, you put up a box with pros and cons, a preview for next video hovered over it so it was unreadable. You might want to put that earlier or extend video with music, etc so they don't overlap.
Thanks, I'm used to pausing videos at times like that, but you bring up a great point. I'll add the pros and cons to the video description here and in the future and add time to it in the future.
I used to build rockets for the 4-H competition when i was a kid, had a few really good performing ones, but nothing quite this big
Awesome, you should get back into it!
yeah that piston was something else for my build. gotta peel the paper on it. don't get it stuck in the tube like me lol!
There's going to be a post build review on all of these, I think it will be just one video but I had to do exactly the same thing. In fact I had to hot glue a u-bolt to the piston to pull it out!
@TheRocketSmith I built mine pretty much exact per the instructions. If I was to do it over again, I'd probably just leave the baffle out, put an eyebolt on the forward centering ring, and go with a nomex blanket. One of my buckles is a bit loose on the coard. So the elastic just kept sliding through the piston bulkhead. Probably go with nylon or kevlar coard too.
@HalfAftRocketry Yea I ran into the same issue with the buckles, I ended up running the elastic through twice. I'm kinda iffy on this kit now. I think I would do the same with the eyebolt and nomex. It's seems a bit unnecessarily complex. I do have an HV Arcas now as well from Aerotech, though it's an old version (Still has their Las Vegas address). I'm sick of doing the unboxing reviews now, I have some plans for the next few videos so that will have to wait until later. Still have to build the punisher too.
@@TheRocketSmith keep us posted on how that sumo build goes!
Great review!
Thanks for the reviews. What do you think of using the eyebolts that seem to come with most kits if you epoxy or JB weld it to keep it closed.
Honestly it's fine. It's actually what I did with these kits. It's more of an issue on heavier rockets where there is going to be more force on the eye bolt at ejection.
A great kit. I have two built and parts for a third. Tubes, couplers, motor tubes and NC from Estes. Fins from Launch Lab.
Great review! I have one of those Estes reissues as well as a Big Daddy/Launch Lab Rocketry conversion kit. Looking forward to your build and flights on your new Leviathan.
Dig it! I never really looked at it as one that I would be interested in b/c of the fins, but seeing it has plywood, I may give it a go. Thank you for the rundown!
Looks like a fun kit to build and fly
You can buy another centering ring from wildman I did for my 5inch goblin
Guess who the Forte came from! ;) Merry Christmas man! Solid set of resolutions right there. Love the 54mm Big Daddy. I built one as a teen but never flew it. Maybe I should do another!
Nothing beats a glass kit ! Looks like it will be a fun build
Ahhhh. Much better. I watched the previous but why not again? TY
Thanks, with Wildman's black friday prices I got three of these for the price of two.
Great resolutions! Have fun with those!
Dave Brunstien. It's in the video.

That is awesome ! I am glad you got to use the pumpkin parachute !
Thanks for making great content, you and rocket vlogs are the best out there!
This is a wonderful idea! Thanks for the generosity :)
You absoulootly need to come out West to fly, we are just starting our winter season! I am having fun getting back into rockets! So many new products, it's not just all paper tubes and balsa anymore!
Love firing rockets in the winter!
Cool giveaway! I'm attempting an L2 certification in the foreseeable future, on the same rocket as my L1. She is a trooper.
Very generous. Rocket geeks rule. My first rocket was the Estes Starlight back in 1972 as a 6th grader. My dad wanted to show a friend a launch near dusk. Last flight as it was lost. As a lark, i found a remake by Semroc of my first and favorite rocket. Still build and fly them.
Estes just re-released the Starlight.
This looks awesome! Does the rocket fuel use KNO3?
You can use sugar propellants, but I prefer APCP as I don't have a place to make and test sugar motors.
