Today I am taking a look at the the new Prize Drive in the HX Stomp. This was a feature of the new 3.70 update that came out this past week. The Prize Drive is modeled after the Nobels ODR-1 Style overdrive and is really one of the best things they have added to the helix ecosystem for a long time! #guitar #line6helix TIMESTAMPS 00:00 Intro Playing 00:56 The Prize Drive 02:24 Problems with Heli...

Nice! The Timmy model is a really good low gain drive in the helix too. Forget what they call it, but was my favorite when I owned one!
Great demo and playing. And while people always complain about talking in these videos, great, um, talking!
Your playing with the mule was chefs kiss
I thank you Jesus ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great video!!! and killer playing!. Lightspeed Vs Timmy? wich one do you prefer?
+1 - my Carr Rambler serial 37 is the last amp I'd ever sell
i just picked up a beautiful Skylark in the brown crocodile and fawn slub. Absolutely incredible and now looking at adding a Mercury V from Steve Carr!!
Awesome demo.
Could you post your amp / cab / reverb / compressor settings in the description, please?
Thanks for this. It was super helpful.
I've rolled through a ton of amps and only Carrs remain.
@hunterStasser how would you say the Mercury takes pedals, specifically reverb and delay on the front of the amp. Looking for a small office amp and used to having an FX loop for time based stuff. Love Carrs and Tone Kings with the attenuation but never just plugged in the front.
I think they handle things really nicely! Like any amp, if you start cranking the master, even when attenuated, it will start to do some interesting things with delay and reverb, but I think if you are going for that much drive you probably shouldn't have a ton of effects on anyways haha.
Thank you sir. Deciding between the Mercury, Skylark and Super Bee for home jamming. Also considering a TK Gremlin (but want reverb) so probably a TK Falcon Grande is a better alternative if I don’t go Carr.
I bought my Carr Rambler new in 2018. It gets used every day and I'm still in the honeymoon phase. I haven't even looked at another amp since. It's also usable at home with a boost pedal and a compressor to give the front end a bit of a push without ridiculously loud volume settings.
Well done. Have a Telstar that I have used the past 3 years. Very happy with it.
Love the video! Thanks for sharing!
Very well-edited! Solid video, Hunter
A top quality account of the goings on! Was bass player to your right? Never saw bass
What kind of content do y’all want to see from the road?
Oh my goodness... The road is a magical yet frustrating place, with lots a odd unplanned down time. Since phone is always with you, I say, trust that observant eye of yours. Everything has a story. If you see an inspiring thing, shoot footage ASAP and clips can be woven into a slideshow and narrated over or placed withing main story as detailed imagery. You are a very talented hardworking man. We love you. Join in and love Hunter too! Declarations of thankfulness and love for the journey, are built in gold. Enjoy yourself and the stories will present themselves like benevolent spirits smiling your way. They have no need of being acknowledged, but make it worthwhile if we do. Gear, soundchecks, jokes on the long hauls and cool chords/lines are always awesome!
The most prepped guy out there
Do you have any gig presets for sale?
I do!! Check out my website hunterstrasser.com
Wow the prize drive whupped the gto’s butt here
Agreed. I just picked up a Carr Skylark and love it. Amazing quality, killer sound.
Great playing and demo of the prize drive. And I loved the comparison to the GTO as I have that pedal as well. I actually thought the Proze Drive sounded a bit more full. I've just purchased various Helix and HX products from Sweetwater and was trying to find a video that shows the upgrade to 3.7 for a new unit (I'm not sure if I need to do a backup of whatever presets came with the unit before upgrading to 3.7, I haven't created any presets myself yet. I've actually purchased the big Helix Floor unit (for direct recording and fly dates) and the HX Effects for a large size pedalboard and an HX One (for a smaller pedalboard). So 3 Helix related products that I'm assuming all need to be updated to 3.7 to get the Prize drive and other amp and cab models. Anyway, that's how I stumbled across your video and I'm glad I did. Keep up the great videos and playing.
Thanks so much! My guess would be that you do need to update your units to get the new features, but it is a fairly painless process. I agree that the prize drive sounds more full here, the one thing I probably could've done is show the comparison in a mix. I think the GTO might cut better with that extra mid, but you should try with your rig!
It's the best OD since the addition of the KOT. It's got a lot range in tone depending which model you put in the signal chain. I think it works best in front of a clean amp model. So far I like it with the AC30 and Div by 13 models. It's almost an always on effect because it fattens up a single coil really nice and you can get a lot of range with your pickup volume control.
Would you mind sharing that HX stomp preset? Would love to see what you had setup and play with it a bit! Great playing and great showcase of the prize drive.
shoot me an email and I can share it! HunterKStrasser@gmail.com
I just never liked distortion or overdrive pedals at all, I just like good amps.
Ok
I've done a test against my Wampler Belle and uau , in the settings I use it, Line 6 nailed the tone!
Nice job
Dude those are some killer tones my friend!
Thanks man!
Hi Hunter 😊
Oh hi Cory. Welcome to RUclips land
Spectrum is actually pretty different from your standard Tone. If you look at a real Nobles ODR1, it will scoop the mids and raise the low and highs at some settings and in others act as a mid hump.
I love your hat!
Okay but can you do a tutorial on how you changed guitars so fast
I will never reveal my secrets
What are you guys most excited about with the new 3.70 update?
The feedbacker! Great playing by the way.
@@newstuff1107 thanks!
My 2 cents : Voltage Amp Model 😀
Agreed. I have a Mercury V for blackface & British tones a Super Bee w/10” speaker for Fender tones & a Slant6V when more power for clean tones.
Seems like a very noisy pedal with minimal gain ... 😟
definitely not... I would put noise on par with any other drive pedal, and there's a ton of gain, especially on the klon side / combining both.
I dig it. I wonder what hes using as amp. Sounds great.
It is all DI through the Neural DSP Tone King Plug in!
@@hunterstrasser sounds really nice.
🔥
I have had my original format Carr Mercury since 2019. Great amp.
great video. i think, i have to try it.
Have a Telstar. Also a great gigging amp. Carr makes amps that your wife will allow to be in a living room 😉
Oh I need to know about that first clean tone
hx stomp is definitely the piece of gear i’ve gotten the most use out of since i bought it. a great investment
Hi Could you share your custom presets ? Many thanks
Great job bro, I have a Suhr classic s like yours, but I don't like the stock pickup sound(too modern),I am thinking about to change to fender fat50s pickups for a vintage sound, Do you think this will help? I saw you changed to novak pickups, did you keep the original pods and electronic, I wonder is the Suhr Silence system make the tone modern? Thank you very much!
I've been using a boss SY-1000 for a couple months now, and I've just ordered an HX stomp to see if I'll like it. Yes, I love the sounds of the boss (same 1000 series algos + fun synth sounds), but what I seriously dislike about boss is the lack of support for their digital products. From what I'm aware, boss hasn't released drivers/software for any of the boss 1000 series products for macos for a couple generations, especially for a 'flagship' device. I can't use my boss as an audio interface or to edit presets, something important especially for the SY series imo. I don't care how old the line-6 stuff is. Their continued dedicated support and updates (which make a noticeable improvement) definitely makes me feel like it's much younger than what it actually is. In fact, my current view is that it's more relevant than many other products, and it's honestly a compromise that I'm willing to make, although I'm sure the sounds from the HX algorithm will be more than enough. I kinda wish I invested in the helix stuff rather than boss, especially since the lack of support doesn't really want to make me support them.
Promo_SM 🤩
The intended use is definitely a must We all want the full stack because that's what we associate with "cool massive rock n roll sound". My first am was a tiny thing that could work on batteries, so of course for my second amp I bought something massive. Not only it was a pain to carry to rehearsals, but I must have used it less than 10 times with the volume above 2 (1 was already too loud at home, 1.5 if I wanted the neighborhood to know that I played guitar). In the end I could rarely use it the way it was meant to sound. Also, try with your ears. As much as I associated Marshall with hard rock and metal, I never really got a sound I liked out of a Marshall except from a Valvestate 80, which a lot of people seem to dislike, so there you go...
ENGL Fireball 100 and Mesa Boogie for everything
VHT D-50 is sorta cheap for a Dumble style
I’ll have to check those out!
