In 1987 I bought seven pints of Younger's Number 3 in there in just over an hour and a half. Well, I thought I was buying them. I got outside and around the corner towards Bowie's bike shop and it turned out I was only renting them. 1:34 The George Hotel just in the mid-distance at the junction. What a state now. You could buy it for tuppence if you can stop it falling down.

You wonder how long it'll be before the problems become structural and building control - and the local council taxpayers - begin to have a problem. I'll bet it's a big complicated slate roof. I used to work in a 19th century building with a big old slate roof and (in 2006) it took 200k just to stop the worst of the water coming in - not even a proper fix. When big old buildings start to go pear-shaped, particularly on a site with difficult access, it can all get quite pricey. Turning it into a care home sounds like an idea until you think about the problems you'd face with lifts. Care homes on bespoke sites and low costs can't make money. My old pal Griff - now dead - stayed in the "Three Bridges" care home in Glasgow, and it wasn't financially viable without government money, was built on a cleared site and still barely broke even on 3k a month per resident. The George Hotel might have to come down.
Great video sums up the B & B I stayed at for a week so I could go to the game at Palmerston in 1998 lost the game but won the league on the last game of the season away to Clyde everyone in the town that I meet treated me to such great hospitality.
