Slugdge - Esoteric Malacology ALBUM REVIEW
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.6 лет назад
England's gastropod loving extreme metal duo Slugdge reach new heights with their fourth LP Esoteric Malacology, an album that compels you to listen to it in its entirety where every song has its reason to be enjoyed. The band's sense of humour shouldn't in any way deter you away from their fantastic musicianship and imagination.

The marching kids in school, all faceless. The "system" cranks out massed devoid of their individuality
Wasn't it heart wrenching to see the little boy on the swing with nobody to push him? Definitely a HUGE brick in his wall😢
Watch the film too. It puts the music into even more context.
Wth would you skip throughout the album 😒
yup, i was waiting for you to hit "When the Tigers Broke Free." Imo, it's the keystone of pink's [ and roger] story and the most powerful song and it's not on the album, so most people only have it connected to the film.
This made me extremely happy. I was 17 years old when this album came out and I literally wore it out, both albums. It makes me happy and jealous at the same time, that young people have the advantage of going back in time to experience great music because when I was young, going back in time was limited.
This is the second video. I’ve watched today trying to get the full movie, but everybody keeps skipping the very first song which I don’t agree with so I’m out.
Ever since I was a kid I’m Gen X. This has been my favorite movie.
"I'm not going to read the lyrics" - proceeds to read the lyrics.
The song when little Pink is going through his dad’s war memorabilia is When The Tigers Broke Free. I believe it’s the song that Waters is most proud of during this period, although it doesn’t appear on the album. Some of the songs were re-recorded for the film, although I always wish they had found a way to include Hey You. Now that you’ve seen this, listen to The Final Cut. That album is very much a continuation of these themes.
Komunizam is better than kapitalizam. Dot. But it doesn't exist..
I liked your emotions thrown into it, yeah this freaking album what it can do to you is astounding !
Think about it, in 1979 i've listened to this when i was a teenager, and even until today i'm 60 i never get sick and tired of it!
Don't want the editing. Sorry
I absolutely LOVE this movie!! I really wish they put What Shall We Do Now on the album because I honestly like it better than Empty Spaces 😅😂
I saw someone do this on another video and I wanted to pass it along. Here’s the album story: Track 1: We are introduced to Pink, a rockstar who has been through a ton of traumatic stuff from his dad dying in the war to his wife and everyone in his life turning their backs on him. This is him introducing himself and talking about what everyone is about to witness Track 2: This is Pink grieving the death of his father, feeling like his life shattered Track 3: This is Pink as a child at his father’s funeral. He doesn’t really know that his dad’s gone forever. All he understands is that his dad flew across the ocean to go to war and he hasn’t come home yet Track 4: This is Pink going to school. He isn’t really having a great time. His teachers are picking on him a lot and he begins to get mad Track 5: Pink is having fantasies about finally being able to stand up to his abusive teachers and getting other students to join him. They end up burning down the school Track 6: This is about his kinda over-bearing mom. His mom doesn’t really know how to parent him right Track 7: This is a flashback to the war and all the bloodshed and Britain losing the war Track 8: Pink tries to call his wife who he’s been cutting off and ignoring (not on purpose). He tries to call her and reconcile their relationship. But, when he gets an answer, he realizes it’s another man. He has come to the realization that his wife cheated on him. He has now descended into anger and depression and frustration. Track 9: A bunch of groupies enter. They get into the event by seducing the guards. They find a bunch of guys and they go into a private place and do sexually arousing things. One of the groupies finds Pink and tries to seduce him and tries to get into his hotel. Pink finally relents and lets her into his room. Track 10: Pink lets the girl in and goes to sit down in front of the TV. The girl begins to admire his hotel room and commenting the size of it and admiring his guitars. She then goes to get a drink of water, comes back, goes to see what Pink is watching, sees that he isn’t feeling well, and then tries to seduce him in hopes that he will “feel better”. Pink then descends into a fit of rage and starts destroying everything in the room, scaring the girl and causing her to run out. Track 11: Pink ends up calming down and we see him lying in a pool and sitting in his chair watching TV. He still can’t accept the fact that his wife cheated and his marriage is ending. Track 12: Pink finally accepts that his marriage ended, his dad’s not coming back , and everyone he loved turned their backs on him. He hates them all now. They are just bricks in his wall Track 13: Pink has fully isolated himself from the world. His wall has been built. Nothing matters anymore. Track 14: This is his cry for help. He’s become aware that he’s going crazy Track 15: He’s crying out for help. He’s crying out for someone beyond his wall to come and help him get out. To help save him Track 16: He has come to terms with his marriage ending, his dad’s not coming back, and has become numb from all the drugs. All he has now his is TV with 13 channels, and they’re all basically shit to him. Track 17: This about Vera Lynn, a singer during WW2, and her hit, Some Sunny Day. Pink is saying his final goodbye to his father, telling him that they’ll meet again soon. Track 18: All the men left alive in the war came back home to see their families Track 19: This technically has nothing to do with the story. This is actually about the bassist of Pink Floyd having cramps in his arm and not wanting to cancel a show over it because they were about to go on. So he gets an injection from a doctor to help his arm feel better so he can get through the show. But the injection actually made his arm worse. He couldn’t raise it above his knee. Because of this, they couldn’t do an encore like they usually do. Track 20: Back to the story, Pink isn’t feeling well at all after being found in his hotel by his manager, passed out. So, they drag him out of his hotel because the show must go on, whether he feels up to it or not Track 21: Pink has become what his father fought against in the war, a Nazi. He’s decided “Fuck all of this. Nothing matters anymore. I want everyone to feel my pain.” Pink is gone. He’s locked away in his hotel. All that remains is a Nazi dictator, terrorizing everyone. Track 22: Him and his entourage, The Worms, begin terrorizing everyone. Track 23: Him and his band of Nazis, The Worms, roam the streets terrorizing everyone in their path Track 24: Pink realizes that all of this, all of what he’s doing, is wrong and he wants to go home and stop all of this. Track 25: Pink decides to put himself on trial for his own safety and sanity, forcing himself to tear down his wall of isolation Track 26: The wall is down. Everything is back to the way it should be. Calm. The track spins back into the beginning, In The Flesh? Hopefully this clears up the story of the album for you! My arm hurts 😅
@@TheDarkOne_Rumplestiltskin Much appreciated!
I was born in 74 and this movie came out when I was a kid but my older brother was into Floyd so I watched this movie probably 100 times in my teenage years. It was normal for a group of teenagers to drop acid or shrooms and watch this movie. I felt is was an internal struggle but also an external struggle of post WWII England. A warning of fascism. Looks like that warning was not taken seriously here in America. You could replace Waiting for the Worms with Waiting for the MAGATS. They do love walls.
only one other concept album even comes close imo, operation mindcrime by queensryche
Dope sweater, I got the t-shirt.
Bravo!
Fully agreed. The movie is unnecessary, except for the animations!
The best version is the live version. Try to get your hands on 'Is there anybody out there?' a double CD of the 1980's live shows. It's absolutely brilliant. Extended solo on Mother, additional instrumental parts.
Animation by the great Gerald Scarfe
The Wall was always intended to be an album, a live show and a movie. But you are right. One should not watch the movie before one has a clear and complete mental image of what the album means
I mean I saw the movie as a kid before I knew the band, so for me it was all one piece of media. The concept itself of the film not being worthy of the album is something completely alien to me.
Some of the songs added were on The Final Cut 1982 the final Pink Floyd album with full lineup. At this point the band deteriorated and Rodger was being an ass firing Richard Wright and going solo not long after. He rehired but dude WTF? Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking and Radio Kaos are swesome, but it was never the same. Pink Floyd released 3 albums after but yeah the Wall is their final masterpiece where they were all together.
The final cut delves more into the themes of The wall mainly the world war 2 themes, and war.
Like the Silent Hill music in the intro!
@@stellarjay3320 Haha glad someone noticed 😁
This is the most genuine music reaction I’ve seen on RUclips

@@bobbyb2725 It's how I change the volume on my TV, dad.
Watching the movie made the music easier to understand. It did make me more of a fan. I also enjoyed the laser light shows at OMSI too.
u absolutely cannot cut out “united we stand, divided we fall, we fall… etc” at the end of “hey you” ( which was one of the biggest hits from this album and one of the fanbases fav songs by floyd)
Great reaction!! To me: the scene where he "becomes the dictator-like person" on stage - he's having to "dress as someone totally foreign to his ideals" and become something he doesn't like to be able to entertain all the "sheep" - not so much a "controlling person" of the crowd - but, to enable him to deal with all the followers. I've noticed that, at one point in the movie, there: the crowd has the same faces as all the children they're all teaching in school (the conformists to society)....just a thought.... THANKS for reacting to this movie - SO MANY DON'T!! ...and, I'm still not sure WHY??
Every time I watch it I get new particulars: the face in The Trial has "a look in your eye like black holes in the sky" and the animation zooms inside the dark eye. That's clearly the late Syd
16:19 yeah… it’s cool watching it now but f’ing terrifying when i stole my dads DVD and watched it as a kid😂
FYI: The marching hammers animation won an award.
I don't belive you're baaaaack. Omg, i'm so happy that my RUclips crush is back and talking about my favorite album of all time🎉
Haha thanks for your enthousiasm!
@@NocturneVideosCan't wait for the next video. Hope I don't have to wait two more years 😂
The sound sucks. And there are no other reactions that are any good wtf.
My Dad worked for a company that supplied the equipment (cameras etc...) for making the film. He took me to Pinewood Studios to watch the SFX shot of the Wall being blown up. Just my luck the shot did not work that day. But as a thank you my Dad got the bands autographs on PF headed paper plus a necklace holding a silver brick.
Can't hear. The sound is very....
I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd for 51 years now, since I was 11 and there isn’t one day I don’t listen their music and Gilmour’s guitar makes me cry every time. Enjoy their music ❤
Greetings fellow Floydian. Sincerely hope you truly enjoy both edges of the Pink Floyd Saga. I'm team Roger but a staunch Floydian all the same.
It's hand-drawn animation.
The Greatest Concept Album Of All Time
You should check out (even if it's in your free time), Roger Water's original The Wall demo. He recorded what would become the wall by himself. It's very emotionally scattered and disturbing. yet MUCH of it made it into the album. Although he originally intended 3 parts of the song "Is There Anybody Out There (pt 1-3)", A totally different version of "Run Like Hell" with different music.
The movie is an integral part of the art. I watched it, oh I dont know... 400+ times on vhs. If you enjoyed this, you should try to listen to the pro's and con's of hitchiking. No video, but... the story. Man.
