Back when the toon had shops and it wasn't rife with junkies
The mighty Fall played here in 1983!!!
It was good to see Flying Phantom in happier times.
Absolutely. A tragedy right enough. Thanks for commenting.
I worked in yard from 1966 to 1971. It was called Greenock dockyard (Klondike) Then Scott Lithgow (Cartsdyke Yard) started at age 15 was a burners boy then apprentice welder. Believe Macdonalds drive in on site now.
i remember william lowes and the tesco here, my young friends would go to tesco for the free pizza
Lots of perms and shellsuits and this only seems like yesterday. Scary how time flies! A lot of these children will be married with kids of their own now. Bet they don't even know this video exists and would love to see it.
Up ere for his bag a brown
Fucking gr8 weekend
I live in the U.S. now but served an apprenticeship At Fergusons in the mid 70,s. It really breaks my heart to see these video's of the shipyards being destroyed. I have great memories of those days.
Me too. All those jobs and skills lost. Thanks for commenting.
Good old times, my old man is the bus driver at start of video.
7:45 That shell suit screams 1992. 😄
I spotted Barney Rubbles across the street. Saw a few bands in there in my teens.
I worked up on the roof of the library a few years after this, demolishing the roof lights.
Pwoar! bob mills wahey! He is gorgeous and still is
Just want to thank you for uploading this, we found this a few years ago. My father in law is the man on the tug with the hard hat and smoking a pipe. We managed to let him this clip. He unfortunately passed away, unexpectedly on Tuesday, so this is nice for us to keep. Thanks, Sarah
So glad he got to see it. So sorry for your loss.thanks for your comment . Best wishes.
The rugby pitch defo wasn't state of the art. Like a Guinness vat with a green scum on top.
Any more episodes if so can you please load them up please
Amazing footage . Completely surreal !
Long time since there was that much shops in Greenock opened its all pound shops now or shops nobody goes into the port has better shops and selection and much better rent prices for the shop owners high rents in the mall killed Greenock town centre that's why city status is very laughable not even the residents of Greenock shop there
The Irish bought and squeezed every shop closed with their nsane rent price .the council need shut down 7th most corrupt council in the whole of the UK
What a big group of children and the clip of the old clyde side buses which is now mcgills buses
What a shame
Think I was only 8 back then a wee whipper snapper 😂
Excellent 👌
Thanks. More to come but just not finding time just now. Cheers .
Do you happen to have anymore videos of the tugs ?
Hi. The second part is going to be some interviews with crew,so not really the tugs themselves in afraid.when I get time to do it that is thanks for watching .
@@ianhood7528 Hi, thats great, I was just wondering as my Granda worked on them at the time and just wondered if he maybe featured in them
Nice to see the Dalmarnock again after all these years .heading up river empty of its precious cargo
Would have been 22 then
Lived in the gibby when born 1970 family also stayed in Angus road and branchton Road
Miss Greenock and Morton
There used to be a film on RUclips of the old St Columba’s school on Peat Road being demolished. It had Clair de Lune in the background. Does anybody know if that film is still available? It was my Mum’s old school and I wanted to show her. Anyone?
I don't see it what did the title say
Home of catman
Served my time in Port yard, worked in Greenock end fitting out car ferries jupiter and saturn. Got very good apprenticeship, traveled a lot and never out of work much. So sad to see the demise of this local gem in shipbuild and repair work
I agree mate. Sad.
Wow! Thats Amazing i worked the door in Janeys when it first opened Had some amazing times in there. This is like stepping back in time unreal, thanks for sharing 👍😁
Rare piece of local history captured, well done 👍
Thanks jim.
tesco multi storey car park if it was open today save all those daft clocks and a fortune in parking charges used to use it all the time when shopping in town really a wasted space now
I worked in that shed 75-77. The ships we worked on were Fort Grange and Fort Austin RFA ships.
Always liked a wander round the docks and harbours.
The sunken ship looked like a Clyde puffer.
my 2 youngest went there they are now 37 and 34
Yer da
Great vid m8 Looked better then lol
Priceless video Would have been 23 then
OMG that brought back a lot of happy memories, the kebab shop on Kempock Street, after Janeys closed was the best!
Poor Barr. The work dried up for him after EastEnders as he couldn't get on quiz shows after the 9.25am slot got taken up with Vanessa/Trisha/Jeremy Kyle. Darren could never find anything for him.
EastEnders is where actors go to die...
EastEnders is training for working at Asda
He hosted the short lived quiz programme 24 Hour Quiz which aired on ITV in 2004.
Went there when it first opened 1971 I think, from old High school in Dunlop Street...was in 3rd year, shame to see it all gone (both schools) :-)
TV show up the hit High School and Wimborne First School Reuben Lisa Scott-Lee I only get angry witless now
I went there to do my "Highers" 1971-2 after transferring from Port Glasgow High school.which only taught to o-level
I think I preferred the old school in Dunlop Street. The new school was very badly built and was falling down before it opened.
Alastair is far the weakest player throughout because Matt was wrong about him
been pished in there more than once!
I went to the Greenock Academy in 1957; I can't say I loved it, but until I went to Saint Dunstan's University in Prince Edward Island it remains my most treasured memory of school and it looked like Hogwart's. Few schools are built with soul in the last 50 years, although I like James Watt College in Greenock, Humber, in Toronto or Quest, in Squamish, B.C.(Watch out for bears!)
I wonder what was weird about that tree
That's what I was thinking lol
Simpler times gone bye eh?
thanks for sharing the memories 👍
