Oh Thank you Helen for watching! It’s half past ten at night here now, the first day of my new lantern, and it is burning beautifully outside where I first lit it! Cheers from Finland!
@clayeasy we are getting 8 hours of heavy snow tonight, apparently. In England. Maybe I'll build a snow lantern :)
@@helenscott4698 please do! Or maybe a bunch of snowmen in the street.. ❄️😀 We did also get more snow today and more will fall later this week..
This is such a creative idea! It looks so cute and whimsical! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Michelle! Yes, it was also a fun project! I might make more of them.. Cheers from old cold Finland!
.. I always forget if it is a Pinching pot or Pinch pot..
I've always heard pinch pot ☺️ very cool video! Stay warm up there 💜
@ Thank you so much! Yes, I try to get it in my head, but sometimes I still use ”pinching pot” even though I should know it by now. About -2 below zero hete right now, so it’s kind of cozy inside.. Nice to hear from you again! Enjoy November! Cheers, Mika
How do you clean it? Thanks!
@@RhondaRMR Hello there Rhonda! If there is a lot stuck to the stone, I use a knife and gently scrape it away. The rest will be gone when you pre-heat it the next time. Cheers from Finland, almost winter here
Do you mean cone 04 when you mention low fire ? Thanks
Hello! I use an electric kiln, preprogrammed. I think cone 09 or 010 is close to 900 * celsius. Still the best results are with just dry, unburned crayons. Good luck!
Wondering what the binding agent you used
For the crayons I only use water when mixing. After painting on, I use a clear glaze or sometimes white glaze. Some oxides reacts great with white glazing. Cheers from a cold Finland!
Can you crush them in a Nutribullet?
Hi there! I think you can, but I have not tried it. Be careful if you try, the porcelain might clog and it might blunt the knives. Cheers, Mika
How to make the clay?
Hello there! The clay I use is a Stoneware clay that I buy from my supplier. Stoneware is perfect for outdoors, because its burning temperature is higher than earthenware clay. I burn it in a kiln on 1250 degrees C. Cheers from Finland!
Tanks , so you no need to put wax ?
@@elsaa1386 Thank you! No wax, but it is great to be two persons. One pouring and one rotating the plate while glazing. Cheers from Finland!
Radical approach. Once the hole was wide enough, I would've used the paddle and anvil, myself.
@@R19P82 Yes, it would have been an idea! It is so important that the clay isn’t too wet, nor to dry. Maybe I’ll use a paddle next time.. Cheers from Finland!

Love that larch pot with the orange/pink blush. How did you achieve that, is it oxide wash over a base glaze? It reminds me of shino in a way.
Thank you! It was only luck. I poured the glazing on the pot and didn’t get it even on all sides. The orange tint is a spot where the layer is thin so the color of the clay shows better. I like it too! It suits the tree so well. Cheers from a Finland where the nights are below zero! 🥶
Cute project! You could always use a battery tea light ☺️
Yes, I thought of that. Nice LED- light sources around these days. Woke up to the first morning below zero today. Fall is def. Here! Cheers,🎉❄️

If you use a candle inside of the ghost, never leave it unattended! The surface will be really hot!
Do you make and sell them? If I send you a photo of my cat, will you be able to colour it to exactly match my live cat? You did a very good job.
Thank you Mark for your kind words! I’m sorry to say, but I don’t sell right now, too much going on. Maybe you can make it yourself? If you take three pictures; one from the front, one from the side and one from the back, it’s easier to get the right proportions.. Cheers from a warm fall here in Finland!

Itoigawa can live in Finland?
Hello Gabriel! No, I don’t think it will survive. I use common juniper, grown in Finland, but it is hard for me to keep it alive. I have most success with European Larch. Still learning! Cheers from Finland!
Thank you 😊. I'm going to try this!
Thank you for watching! It would be lovely to see your finished work ! Cheers from Finland!
Thank you. I really enjoyed this video. I will post when glazed. Mine looks more like a deer:). How did you learn this?
@@bf5434 Thank You for watching and commenting! I look forward to seeing your work! This hare or rabbit is just one of the different things you can do by using the same technic. I often start by making a pinch pot and after that wonder what to make out of it. Cheers from a great summer here in Finland!
Love your work! And thank you for your video. Just a few questions. What would you consider the best thickness of the walls for a pinch pot of that size? Plus, I am wanting to create a vessel that starts from a fairly narrow base and flairs out creating a wide rim. Should I create it over a period of time to let the clay set up as I go to stop the sides slumping? Or would I be better off creating a smaller pinch pot as the base and then building up with coils? ( I think I may have answered my own question ☺)
Thank you for your kind words! .. and yes, I think you answered your own question! I think the best way for your project might be to build by pinching a base, and building with coils from there. It’s easier to have control of the shape and the drying aswell. You can add coils little by little, use a hair drier if you want to speed up the drying etc. I usually cover the rim with a piece of plastic so that it is easy to add new coils, even if the rest of the pot starts drying. Remember to slip and score! It would be lovely to see your work! Cheers from Finland!
@@clayeasy I made a start today with the pinch base and then started adding coils. The bottom started slumping a little, so I’ve sat it in a bowl to support the base while it sets up, covered it in plastic and will play again tomorrow. Thank you again for your help and I will get back to you with a pic if it works!
Thank you for the video. Can you use other clay bodies instead of porcelain?
Thank you for your comments! I have not tried with other clay bodies, because all recepies on crayons that I found are made up of almost the same ingredients /proportions as porcelain clay. It might work! Cheers from Finland!
Just watched, love it. Will give AI generation of pic a go and see where it leads :) Question, I hope you don't mind me asking; the stains you used at greenware stage, what are these?
Thank you Jessica! It was actually fun to make it. The stains I used are just plain white and black cause the clay I use is a little bit too brown and sometimes I've noticed that the white glaze by it self will not cover perfectly. So it was just to be sure that white will be white and black really black. Both are of course suitable for stoneware Cheers from a lovely summer in Finland!

FYI. "Knead" pronounced the same as "need".
@@friedfish69 thank you! I’ll try to remember that. There are probably more words and sayings that I use in wrong places and prounounce wrong. Wedge is maybe a better word than knead when talking about clay? Cheers from Finland!

☀️ Thank you so much! Yes, I think the glazing made this moon nice! Enjoy July! ☀️☀️😎
Like the step-by-step presented. Really like the way you made it. It is a very unique design. Like the glazes you chose.
Thank you again Jeff! Yes, this is one of my favourite home-made ones. The glazing is always the biggest questionmark. We share a kiln and have a lot of different glazes. The temperature and clay reacts sometimes in strange ways, so the outcome is not always what I want. This one was great! Cheers, Mika!
Informative. Now I need to use your technique to make one. Thanks.
Thank you Jeff! This pot sits outside in the garden now with a 🎄 in it! I’d love to see your pot if you make one! Cheers from midsummer here in Finland with only 2 hours of darkness right now!
@@clayeasy Used to live in Alaska. Traveled around a lot for work. Even in Panhandle there was only 4-5 hours of semi dark periods. Much further north ZERO. Yes when I make one I’ll try to remember to send a photo your way.
It would definitely take more time, but maybe stack (or slam wedging) for such a big block of clay?
yes you are absolutely right! 27.55lb is almost too much, but I had to try it anyway. I was in a hurry so I cheated with the wedging. Cheers from a nice summerday with chances of rain ⛅
@@clayeasy what a massive project! Congratulations on your success! That's quite an accomplishment!
Never roll the dough 😵💫🥴
Thank you! Yes, we've learned that after a few resipes! It's soo good though!
It’s difficult for me to believe from this video that this a completely punched pot: you do not show the entire process of pinching it - could be a speeded up part, and there are lines visible that make me think that you actually coiled part of it . Unless you call coiling also pinching ? 😊
Hi there Gail! and thanks for your comments! Yeas, I missed showing it all.. But there is no coiling in this! When I pull up the clay from the inside it builds up like this sausage close to the rim. It's probably because I worked more on pulling on the inside than on the outside. I'm sorry I didn't show the whole process, but if you look at the first part of this video ( at between 6 and 7 minutes into the clip) you can see how this clay builds up at the rim. Here is a link to the first part: www.youtube.com/watch? v=GcV2z_do5_o&ab_channel=EasySculptingChannel Thank you for letting me know, I kind of missed thinking about showing the whole process.. I will soon make an even bigger pinch pot, then I'll speed it up and will not leave out any parts of the work. Promise that you look at it then and give me a comment? Cheers from a lovely summer here in Finland!
I’m trying to find a way to make pencils/crayons out of liquid underglaze.. Any advice?
Hi there! I have the same problem, I have tried but sltill not found any good way. I’ve experimented mixing with porcelain and let it dry, but I need something more to bind it all together. I might try with beeswax or something like it. It seems to be hard to find great home made crayons.. Good luck in your search, and let me know if you find any!
