I can't figure out what was the point for Brendan in going in there. I mean, the forest is scary, but this place isn't? Why is he so sassy in front of Ashlin at this moment? It's the reason why I didn't like this passage, I can't understand his behavior being a huge contrast with the previous situations.

It sucks. Fear factor, action scenes, and characters with real development (not for the sake of the plot) are what made these movies memorable. Too bad that’s not happening as often in kids movies anymore:/
yeah... parents tend to overly protect their children from negative emotions, but fear is a perfectly normal and healthy emotion for a child to experience. i watched this movie when i was little, and i was fascinated by it. i wasn't scared by this scene, i was pleasantly unsettled and interested. i've never seen scenes like that in any kids' movies before, it was new and intriguing. the fight scene with Crom was my favorite moment, i used to remote it dozens of times, and it gave me goosebumps each time. characters that overcome fear provide greater lesson to a kid than any "positive" story.
Lmao, almost 10 years ago, 100k views, and zero comments? Welp, I guess I'll put my lil thing here. When I was about 12 maybe 13 my friend and I watched Secret of the Kells just after it had come out and it gave me nightmares. This was the only scene I could vividly remember and I couldn't remember the name and I just needed to know what this movie was called, even the old friend didn't know. So I looked it up. Surprisingly, I found the movie! Or, more specifically, this scene. Pretty cool stuff if I do say so myself. Love the spooky-ness now but when I was younger I could barely sleep.. So thanks :)
Haha, I remember when I was young I could never finish this movie. I would run away at the scene where Aisling sacrifices herself because of how scary it was. Can you imagine how many times I started watching this movie and I never even saw what Crom looks like? Crazy!
I have said this before and will say again: Brendan referring to Pagan beliefs as "nonsense" is offensive to me, because my beliefs are, for lack of a more precise term, "Pagan" and I am very loyal to what I believe. sorry to rant. I just thought I'd express my sentiments towards Brendan's attitude.
That’s the point. He’s offensive on purpose because he’s naive to the lore and stories around him. Brendan was raised as a Christian during a time where the church publicly executed “pagans”. He eventually learns to heed warnings of other religions even if it’s not in his beliefs. It’s character growth.
I would really like to severely punish Brendan for seeing the truth as "pagan nonsense." I don't do anything involving the being they just encountered, but my beliefs are "pagan" if nothing else, and I am very devout to what I believe.
Brendan... I know, how many people have already said this, but sweetie, you were so stupid in this scene-! You are _literally_ talking to a fae!! How!!! Couldn't there have been a way for him to stumble upon Crom without suddenly becoming an idiot for this one scene?!
A friend of mine was watching this one day and I walked in on this part. Freaked me out so of course I wanted to watch the whole thing. Great movie. This part and the "turn darkness into light" part was really unsettling
It isn't that hard to believe that he would think like that. He believes in the existence of fairies, which are considered to be lesser divine beings, but not in the existence of multiple gods like in paganism. In short, to him fairies exist but pagan gods do not. Even after he encounters Crom, he still considers him to be a "dark one" like a demon or monster and that's probably what he is.
Brendan man you are litteraly speaking to a fairy that knows more about "pagan nonsense" than you so when she says its bad listen. And Aisling is litteraly what you are calling "pagan nonsense "
I Noticed That Not Many People Understood This Scene And The Fight Scene Where Brendan Gets The Crystal For Brother Aidan… Just For Those Who Don't Know And Want Some History And Context Explained To You: The Demon Introduced Here Is Called Crom Crúah Ireland Was A Pagan Nation Before Christianity Came In The 8th Century, To Fully Integrate The Local Population To The Religion; The Ancient Folklore Of The Irish Was Rebranded To Omit The Pagan Gods And Goddesses And Include Instead Jesus, Mary, The Holy Trinity And The Saints…. One Of The Ancient Gods Of Pagan Ireland Is Crom Crúah (Pronounced "Crumb-Crew-A") (The Bloody Bent One) Associated With Sacrifice And Death, Another Name For Crom Cruáh Is Crom Dúbh ( Pronounced "Crumb-Dove") (The Black One/The Dark One"). Saying His Name Is Supposed To Spark Terror In People As He Is The God Of Sacrifice And Slaughter, Women Especially Would Be Scared As He Required Newborns Be Sacrificed To Him. This Is Why Aishling Says To Brendan, Petrified: "It Is The Cave Of The Dark One!, DO NOT Speak It's Name!" He Is Said To Have Been Defeated By Saint Patrick After His Image Was Smashed With A Sledgehammer By The Saint… The Dark Pagan Of Death Is Smashed By The Holy Light Of Christianity… Ireland Transitions From Paganism To Christianity…. Hope This Explained This Scene And The Fight Scene A Bit Better For You All! :D
Thanks, I was looking for a historical point of view about this, and about the whole movie in general but there's not such video on youtube. Kinda sad to know that all this magical folklore got dismissed by christianity and their boring ass god and saints.
@@mercy8370 I’m disappointed that folklore was almost completely erased by the church wherever it went. While I believe in Catholicism myself, I don’t impose it on others if they choose not to believe in it. I’m very interested in learning others’ stories as much as the Bible’s.
I notice both of the times she went there, she had to perform tremendous feats of strength, and looked half dead and really drained and sickened by the darkness afterward. Especially with the more amazing feat, when she lifted the stone again. Anybody want to elaborate?
