I “fostered” a Police Dog here in the UK, where it is called “puppy walking.” I had a Belgium Malinois and we were inseparable until she went to her handler. Fast forward 8 years and my husband and I get a phone call saying she was coming up for retirement. Her handler couldn’t retire her at his home because his wife ran a child-minding business there and offered her back to my husband and I. (At the time my husband was a working Police Dog handler himself.). She has been with us for 2 years and is enjoying her retirement, as much as my husband is enjoying his now too, and she and I are again inseparable!

I have that same dog breed! Super funny and a great one!

It is an honor to have such an event right here in Eagle, ID. We all know "Freedom isn't Free." Men and women gave their lives to keep us free. They paid the ultimate price. I for one am very thankful that they had the courage and commitment to fight for our freedom. I am also thankful that people like Heather Paredes are committed to making sure people have a chance to take a moment to remember, to be thankful and to heal from the wounds we have suffered in the fight for freedom. Many of us take freedom too lightly. Some of us think we have a right to dishonor our flag, our anthem and the people who died to give them these rights. I am not a great speaker and writer, nor do I have a gift with words. So please forgive my ineptness, but this needs to be said. Pause with me for a moment and ask yourself if you would trample on your most loyal and committed friend. That one friend who would stand with you through anything. That one friend that seems to always be living and breathing for YOU. They are there for YOU, day or night, whenever you have a need. You know. That companion that will take on all comers, and endure all pain, to protect YOU, even if it means their own demise. Is this a relative? Is this a police officer? A soldier? A school mate? Is this for sure your dog? Or maybe it is all of them embodied in a community . . . in a country. Now consider this with me. The American flag and our national anthem are living breathing things. They represents our people, and they represent our troops, our police officers, our fire fighters, our teachers, our doctors and nurses, our Dads and Moms, and literally lead us into every corner of the world and often even into combat. You can't deny that the American Flag and the Anthem are living and breathing things. They live and breathe through those people. They live in the hearts of Americans to such an extent that, during the 911 crisis, some 80% of Americans flew the flag. The American Flag and our National Anthem are living symbols of the commitment of our troops to maintain the security and freedoms this country enjoys. They will take on all comers, all attackers, endure endless pain, and it will do all of that in order to give you freedom, peace, independence, and the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And it does all this, while it guarantees you the right to degrade them, to criticize them, to burn your own flag. If you think disrespecting such a friend is wise, you are unwise and foolish. Disrespecting such a cherished thing is the wrong action to take. If your problem is mistreatment of people, then fight that directly. If your problem is inequality, then fight that directly. If your problem is dishonesty and deceit, fight that directly. Don't kneel during the anthem or during the raising of our flag. You simply anger millions of people and defeat your own purpose. Get involved. Go do something directly about it. Commit your time, your resources, and your energies towards replacing those who are not caring properly for our country and our people. That will have a much greater effect than your misguided kneeling display. Your personal involvement in problems and mistreatment, and your personal commitment to help and to encourage change, and actually put some energy to that action, will motivate others to come along side of you and do the same. 53 football players engaged in a pitiful display like disrespecting our flag and our anthem will excite a few and enrage millions. One person engaged in true leadership and decisive action will excite millions and enrage no one. 53 people who care enough to lead effectively could change the country forever. Be different. Stand for what is right. Make a stand and lead others to do the same. Ask me to stand with you and lead this country to greatness and I will join you. Hope to see you at the Field of Honor in Eagle, Idaho next year.

Thank them for protecting everyone in America. How many have or know some serving in the military now - raise your hand. On behalf of all Americans thank you and thank them. George Washington and the Continental Army gave us our freedom. The Red in the flag stands for their blood and the blood of all of the troops since who protect and defend our freedom and our American way of life. The White shows our purity of purpose and action. Each Star a unique state with its own way of doing things. The Blue shows they have joined together to prosper. The question before us is - who are we and what are we made of You and I are privileged to live our brief existence in the greatest nation on earth. Visionary. Formed on principals. We are not an empire. We are protectors and we are defenders. We spread freedom and prosperity. We stamp out predators. This is us This is who we are This is what we do. We succeed and get others to succeed. And as the world’s beacon of hope, beacon of charity, beacon of prosperity, and the best instrument of good on this planet -- the dark forces are always arrayed against us. And it is between us and those dark and evil forces that our military stands. It's a fundamental moral equation that you look out for the people who are looking out for you. A lot of people want to do something. But they don't have the means. Or don’t know how. Today you just heard an American-class opportunity to do just that. Something right up your alley. You’re platinum grade and can do anything you set your mind to. You’re mission oriented and objective driven. You have unique abilities and characters. That is why you’ll feel comfortable around the service members you will meet in this project. This is some of the best work you will ever do. How can you know that? Because the troops tell me every day from all over the world how much it means to know the people care, know they’re there, and are with them But don’t take my word for it. See that flag? That last placed it flew ….. See this flag on this podium? …. This is what you’re made of Taking the lead Performing. Encouraging Platinum character traits. Your project roof will be far more than a roof job. Your roof will be a statement -- to all of America’s military servicemen and women -- that they are not alone, that we are right there with them. Your roof will be an example -- for all Americans to follow -- of what it means to step up tangibly for the troops and their families. When I started, a lot of good people got to raise their hands, proud of things done for this nation. And now every one of you who wants can raise your hand with the same America pride and loyalty and get in on this project to stand with those who stands for us. Are you with me? Are you with the troops? Are you with their families the way they are for yours? Then your hands will show them how much they mean to you. And let’s do this for them the way they do so much for all of us. Are you with me? Look at all those hands. The stuff that makes this country great, Thank you.
