It is sad that when someone fails they blame themselves. Young, novice drivers learn from observation and instructions. It is possible you had insufficient practice, tips and pointers.

A part of the problem here is simply leaving the curb safely. Don't assume you've already stopped for the sign because you began driving from twenty five feet away.

Hi Holycow. Be careful of this mentality. One of my former students was sued and lost because her emotions displaced the law. A large part of driving involves curtesy. It is the part that makes us upset.

Thanks for the comment. A K-turn/3-Point Turn/Broken U-Turn ( All the same) typically requires brake pressure only. Here is the sequence: Curb stop, signal left, check mirrors, look left. Turn wheel completely left and roll across road until perpendicular. Now Reverse. Check over right shoulder, then left. Stop when you can see the curb through your windshield. Chose Drive. There is nothing wrong with passing from the merge lane, so long as you did not come off the highway to use it for getting around slowed traffic.
