​@@WheatBread-f9yI say it wasn't accidental, because from the strength of the shot it doesn't seem like he wanted to cross into the area. But I think he must have been surprised that he actually scored the goal.

@@gordo楤 he would not cross with such an strenght and speed if not aiming for the goal, especially when not pressured by the defender, thats definetly a intentional goal, he cleary had space to stop the ball and cross if he wanted to.

@@jigawhatts It's possible to want to hit it like that when the ball is about to go out. You just want to get it in box somehow. But It is Roberto Carlos so he might have meant it.

I believe he meant to score, but a bit vaguely. I think it was an instinctive decision by him, of course someone has to be a football genius in order to have such an instinct and Carlos was just that. The power of the shot, the direction, the bend, the urgency to kick the ball while he had all the time and space in the world to stop the ball and take a good look where to pass/cross, all of those decisions plus execution where a complete failure if he wanted to cross. Actually this might be the most difficult goal ever scored and the greatest long shot goal ever scored.

The curve and power of the shot do look like he was going for goal. He puts his hand in front of his mouth at 0:18 though so who knows, great goal anyway
