60 tons of rumbling dermatitis.
The engine did have one redeeming feature. It was the first tank to have an engine power pack design. This meant the whole engine and radiators etc. could be disconnected and taken out and replaced very quickly. This is now a standard feature on all MBT's of today.
I am about to contact BBB because I have cancelled my account twice and you refuse to acknowledge my cancellation. I’ll be contacting my credit card company tomorrow.
Where can you get ammo for that from?
Need to check their facts and get them right.
It wasn't realy the engines fault. It was designed to be horizonatally opposed not vertica. to keep the tanks sillouette lower. The main engine generator wouldn't charge below 1k rpm so you needed the GUE donkey engine. The engine itself arely went wrong, it was all the ancillary crap around it! It was a pleasure and a shit ton of fun to drive!
It’s easy to drive But it’s mechanically terrible But it can turn at tick over and trackbashing is made much easier than Challenger Top tip Final drive sprocket bolts, apply blue Hylomar gel when replacing. Helps a bit with the vibration issues
Machine gun Dave! The Man, the myth, the legend! A first class fellow with incredble knowledge!
How many chieftains do you have
02eb61 was a mk2 not a mk1
02eb61 was built at the royal ordanance factory barnbow leeds.
A fantastic tank ruined by British Leyland!!!!!!!!
Actually the multi fuel engine was a NATO requirement, the original engine wasn't designed for 56 ton
I shall look up the history on this
I just picked up a Standard. Put 900 rounds thru it in 3 days! Absolutely love this gun!
40mph ???????
@Eric-kn4yn: Yes.....downhill with a tail-wind.
Do think those tankers of us care about the layland lump complaints SOUND is everything! This is one of best sounding tanks
1:52 Welcome to LATVIA!!!!!!!!
Instead of bringing the mini platform into today's market with using better and more precise tool and machine tech and making things like polymer magazines and competition triggers/optics and updated stocks they decided to relive the 80s and attach themselves even more to that stupid TV show the boomers cling to for some unknown reason. It's a big turn off for weapons enthusiasts who would like to see a modernized version instead of a older model permanently identified as a Boomer gun with association to some goofy old TV show long since gone. Wake up Ruger it's 2023.
Acho o modelo lindo, perfeito, mas gostaria de saber se vão fazer o mesmo modelo no calibre 7.62x51.
I tried looking for the sccy on that website but couldn't find it
$249-299. for this pistol in 2023.
I will forever now miss seeing MG Dave and the Sarco booth at Knob Creek. Dealt with Dave several times. End of an Era with Knob Creek closing up shop woth regards of their shilow/shoot.
I've always loved Sarco, Inc. I've bought several times from them. I loved their ads. My first purchase was an East German AK 30 rd magazine. In the 90s
upgraded versions of the chieftain defended Kuwait in the gulf war. Considering they Knocked out 21 t72 tanks before being ordered to retreat. they where pretty good.
Want
"was the capability to penetrate russian armor on very long ranges" Yeah thats correct for T-55 and T-62. So the slightly earlier sovjet MBT´s. But not correct for T-64, T-72 and T-80, where Chieftain had to close in below 900-700m for a reliable penetration shot. Chieftains thick armor (of up to 390mm on the thickest parts of the turret) was not really thick enough to protect vs 100mm and 115mm HEAT rounds fired by T-55 and T-62´s on Ranges of about 2000m. So it could penetrate both T-55 and T-62 on about 2000m, but they could do the same to Chieftain on the same range. With T-64, T-72 and T-80 things get alot worse for Chieftain. They could punch through chieftains turret face on ranges of up to 2700m from 1969 onwards and from 1976 on 3100m, so they outranged Chieftain by about 2000-2400m. Basicly every european NATO partner but also the USA made clear statements to the UK from even before the introduction of Chieftain, that it was severely inadequate in reliability and capability. In service readiness was low, in service failure rate was up to 40% under peace conditions. (this was regularly shown in the annual REFORGER excercises)
Good story, but as you always do, you omit the important facts. T54/55 or T62 could *NOT* penetrate a Chieftain from the front with HEAT. I've seen the MoD video of the tests for it and it simply couldn't do it. They also couldn't side the side of a fvcking barn past ~1km, so there's that. Chieftain could reach out to ~2.5km while stationary and hit targets with over a 75% hit rate for most units. T64 and T72 are a problem, but only for fin. HEAT still isn't a problem, and again, they aren't hitting anything beyond ~1.5km, while they have to drive through the ATGM and tank fire to even get into their combat ranges. 125mm fin will certainly go through the front of Chieftain at 2+km, but it has to be able to hit it first, which just takes us back to the reality that they have close to no chance in daylight and simply can't do it at all at night. 120mm HESH will fvck up EVERY tank out there - M Kills are just as useful as T Kills in the course of an engagement. There is a gap of ~5 years where ATGM pose a very real threat, but Stillbrew addressed that somewhat given that a newer tank was planned and coming along, and you've still, yet again, back to the reality that WarPac forces would be hard pressed to hit ANYTHING beyond 1km in daylight and simply couldn't operate at night. We trained for 24/7 operations and could do it while damn near asleep. The ONLY advantage WarPac forces had was numbers. So who wants to step up and be first in line to die?
The only draw back for the chieftain was the engine. It was an unmitigated failure.
In 7 years I had *one* outright failure
But it does sound like God jizzing
The most OP and sought out Tank in World of Tanks ran by Belarussians who keep it impossible to get. War Gaming scammers.
I have one of the Brownells retro barrel 605.. And a nodak spud lower. Fantastic shooting little rifle.
They showed a new generation last year. With plastic bud stock and some other candies)
Dave You Should not have Sold Your Charger. We never got to Race.
I remember when I was about 14 and drove one near Tidworth barracks, our boys club in London was invited there for the day. Great fun.
LARUE scope mounts are the best

90% failure rate means the tank would not move more than a 100 yards, so in that context the tank was no good. Of course if your assement is wrong then which it is, it would mean the tank was good.
In service failur rates under peace conditions were around 30-35%, during Reforger Excercises failure rates sometimes went up to 40%. Similar picture forms with the iranian and kuwaiti Chieftains under combat conditions. About 35% constant failure rate in all units. As example the "Battle of the Bridges" during the iraki Invasion of Kuwait. Kuwaiti 35th armored brigade consisting of 2 tank bataillons with 40 Chieftains each, only 36 vehicles in total could be mustered and were able to leave barracks grounds on their own power for the 7-8km march to their deployment area at the Highway 70 crossing west of Al Jahra. Kuwait lost 136 of 143 Chieftain MK.III and V due to them getting captured inoperable or getting destroyed by T-72M´s
