    How about knobs with a lever? Do you put the curl up or down??

    • @highertiercarpentry
      @highertiercarpentry Месяц назад

      It depends I usually put them on down but if they’re on the other way I have to fix them. You just have to push the little button on the side and its about a 10 minutes max fix.

    I was hoping this video would show how you install ALL the sides of a post wrap. I wait for the money shot and bam... it's already put together and you only show how to put the last side on. I would think installing the first 3 sides woudl be the most difficult. How did you install the first 3 sides? Did you build those 3 sides together in to a box and then slide the box in place or did you install all 3 sides directly to the post?

    With that technique.. Just sacrifice a framer's square and cut off the ends to exactly match your rise and the the the tread.. If they are a little off it will be obvious and you can just mark it off at the front of the lower trad and back soy you get the actual imperfections reflex ted on your skirt.. Just a thought..

  • @vinnyrea5608
    @vinnyrea5608 11 месяцев назад

    Hi, pal, easier method you can do is. Place your skirt board to the wall just like you did, let it go all the way down to the hallway floor till the tip touches the floor. Measure and cut a scrap block of wood that is the same height as the top tip of the end that is resting on the floor, scribe the floor and cut the line. Then place the board back into position when done then tack it into place. Get a 2 foot level or piece of timber and push it up tight to the face of the riser of the ground floor step and mark a line up to the top edge of the board, then repeat all the way up the board till you reach the last riser. Now repeat the process for the treads. Lay your level or timber flat to the top tread, mark across the underside of your level and repeat the process for the rest of the treads on your way back down. You will now have the template for your skirt board. This is a good way to do it also. It will save you time having to measure and mark each one. Give it a go.

    All depends: Stilleto hammer the t bone lll costs: $199.00, and the replacement face cost: $34.99 vs Martínez hammer costs: $284.95, and to replace the head is: $64.95, so you don’t have to buy the whole hammer, and all depends what you like, stilleto is cheaper and lighter, and it hits powerful as well!!!

    • @user-bo1dn3de9j
      @user-bo1dn3de9j 11 месяцев назад

      Martinez head is all steel and they do a whole head replacement where Stiletto only the face plate is steel and they only do face replacement. So, if your claw breaks you have to either use a hammer with a broken claw or buy a new hammer. Also, the handle for Martinez can be replaced as well, where as the Stiletto you have to ship it to them to have it fixed. Also the Martinez and the Stiletto are similar weight but balanced differently. Stiletto is more evenly balanced, where as the Martinez has the weight more in the head so it takes less effort when you hit something. Martinez has an advantage supported by physics. Both are great hammers!

    • @TheChaps5
      @TheChaps5 11 месяцев назад

      @@user-bo1dn3de9jI have a t bone ll for 5 years, and nothing happens, I’m a framer, and of course if I have to use it like a bar, “I don’t “, I use a bar, that’s why there are more tools for other uses, also I have a Martinez as well, is good, but the face gets flat like fast, the paint goes fast, so here where I live snows a lot, so pretty much you have a rust head hammer, and you have yo pay $400 only because the paint and different color on the handle, also the handle gets kind of loose immediately, nor the stilleto, now I buy another stilleto, the t bone lll, and is powerfull!!!

    Easier way is to use a scrap block, mark your riser, mark your step, when both lines intersect making 90 degrees, that’s your cut out. Did this process in a couple minutes vs marking like you did, plus your risers and steps won’t always be level or plumb so using a scrap ensures each step will match your mark

    A track saw with a good anti splinter strips and blade works great for installing stair threads, I find there's too much time in trying to set a miter saw blade to suit the cut but with a track you set the guide rail on your lines, clamp it and cut and you're good to go for installing

    Great video my man! I am a finish carpenter/contractor in Nor Cal I really do not do skirts and stairs that much ? Maybe every once in a while? Lots of doors, built ins, base, crown, ect.,. However I ask for a 3/4 to 7/8” space between stairs and wall of course framing like yours prevents it! I use a digital level to get my degree angle almost always 36to 40? The level sits off the nosing 2 3/4 or 3/8 can’t remember? And my plumb cut is an example 90 degrees minus 38 for angle 52 degree plumb cut. It’s a bear coming in behind someone like here who maybe was a handyman who built your stairs! Min riser should not be over 7.5 and tread 10” or else inspector fails it they are tough on stairs! I use Akibus bag and carry 2 squares 4” & 6” Martinez however I purchased their aluminum ones and they are great for figuring angles ect.,. Track Saw bar none Makita it’s a beast I hv both corded and battery. It takes a min to gather stuff I know! But 1 st thing I did was covert my garage into a shop! Big table saw small planer & jointer plus a nice router table for face frames! That way you mill it and charge for it ! Cuts overhead whereas milling is profit all shop building profit & write off ! Hey I am signed up looking forward to all your videos you’re going to kill it! Keep hustling!

      @highertiercarpentry Год назад

      Thanks for the comment. These stairs are all over the place the person who installed them didn’t adjust the stringers dead on so the risers aren’t consistent hopefully it won’t mess up my tread nosing reveal to much.

      @@highertiercarpentry get yourself the Collins stair tread jig! Not much $40/50 use a 1x2 and attach the jig at each end (come in a pair). Then set it to each side of the wall and tighten so as to keep your setting as you lift off the tread! Then place it on your new stair tread material ! Then scribe and cut with your track saw! I like an 1 1/4 “ off tread nosing some 1”1/2 off nosing ? Then I use a 15 ga to set both tread and riser and screw in from the back if you can get there??? Big big if ? Otherwise I use trim screw that way it prevents movement overtime! Keep punching out videos there is not but a couple guys doing “FINISH CARPENTRY”! And they are successfully bend it towards for “PRO to PRO” and go deep in the weeds for newer ppl ! Blades , belt set up for crown, base wainscoting , ect! Towards pros !!! Looking forward to this !!

    Just my opinion, but 20oz is 20oz whether it's steel, titanium, aluminum, brass, bronze, beryllium, wood. When titanium hammers came out, they had steel screw on faces. Titanium alloy might be tough but it's immeasurable in the human hand, we ain't machines and we can't decipher the minute differences in practice. Also a solid piece of steel will always be stronger than a mechanical connection. It all works in the end. If only common sense could be shared as effectively as marketing builds hype...21st CENTURY BABY burn that money honey

      titanium absorbs impacts better and the balance of a martinez is designed to take less effort when you swing it because of the weight distribution being more in the head. it's night and day from an all steel hammer.

    • @rollypollyguy3976
      @rollypollyguy3976 11 месяцев назад

      @user-bo1dn3de9j for the sake of arguing and because I absolutely love taking hammers, the right ergonomics applied to any hammer can achieve the feel of the Martinez. If you get your hands on an older hammer that rings when you swing you know on a molecular level that the daisy chain of carbon and what have you is true, and it sends the vibration through itself into an audible pitch. Much like machetes that are heat treated correctly. When you get the ring, your steel is mean. The only times I switch to my Martinez is when I'm working ocean front property or the one gig I scored with the city down in the sewers. Otherwise, I'm all about my 20oz vaughan hafted to a hickory handle or my 19oz estwing all steel. The most important thing is finding that hammer that makes you feel powerful when you grip it AKA years of developing muscle memory for that particular hammer.
