We drove the Forgotten Hwy on the North Island of New Zealand, between Taumarunui and Stratford, in October 2024. It is a beautiful scenic drive with many interesting places to stop and learn about its history along the way. October 2024 It was a very interesting experience to see the water released from Aratiatia Rapids. This is done daily at 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm and (season-dependent) 4 pm, and extra sessions if required. We were there for the 12 pm release and watched it from the midpoint lookout.
