Guess I'm a game reviewer now :P I focus on more in depth analysis of game experiences and how systems and mechanics contribute to it.
Tribe: Primitive Builder & the Human Urge to Build
My review of Tribe: Primitive Builder, a lesser known survival/building game; I discuss the downsides and difficulties of making a survival/building game, where Tribe succeeds, and how it brings out the kid in its players :)

The Best Quest in Starfield
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Starfield a deeply flawed game, but the quest "Juno's Gambit" is an absolute gem in the rough in the game. The writing in that quest draws from astronomical science and its history, and tells a fascinating tale about the fate of a stranded NASA probe.
The Profound Disappointment of Black Ops Cold War
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.7 месяцев назад
The latest Call of Duty Black Ops game represents an archetypical Call of Duty game: failing to live up to its premise because of its Call of Duty baggage. Here, I discuss the writing and gameplay of Black Ops: Cold War in detail and examine its origins and missed opportunities. Turns out I DID take a year to make the next video ;)

Reaper: Tale of a Pale Swordsman: An Analogue to History
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
Hexage's Reaper - Tale of a Pale Swordsman is a gorgeous 2D side scrolling fighting game originally developed for mobile devices. In this video I discuss the combat mechanics and the surprisingly profound and sophisticated story with significant analogues to the history of colonialism in the Americas. This video is a Review, as opposed to an Analysis. Here, I only play the game one or two times...
Far Cry 2: Diamonds, Warlords, and a Real-Life African Coup

Ubisoft's Far Cry 2 is a black sheep in the series, with fascinating writing that really captures the oppressive and brutal atmosphere of the story. In this video, I discuss how the game marries game mechanics with narrative to highlight its atmosphere. Then, I talk about the real-life inspirations behind the game's main villian and how Far Cry 2's narrative can be tied to real arms dealers in ...
Far Cry 2: The Advent of System Driven Design
Просмотров 1993 года назад
Ubisoft's Far Cry 2, released in 2008, is an open world first person shooter that was a pioneer of system driven design, where game mechanics are separated into individualized systems. In this video, I discuss how Far Cry 2 uses it's systems to create an extremely dynamic game space. In the next video, I will discuss Far Cry 2's story, an interesting exploration of the politics of civil wars an...

Ghostrunner is a first person action game developed by Polish studio One More Level. In this video, I summarize my thoughts on the game and discuss my experience with a game that I believe comes very close to becoming a classic like gaming. No doubt, this studio is one to watch. This video is a Review, as opposed to an Analysis. Here, I only play the game one or two times, and discuss it genera...
Firewatch Analysis - YOU vs Henry

A bit of a different video this time, I go through the story of Firewatch, and discuss how the game portion and the story portions integrate A few things to address: I couldn't fix the performance issues. You can see that my framerate falls to single digits anytime the game is rendering any text related to interactable items. There's a forum post that suggests that the newest update to the game...
Nom Nom Galaxy Analysis - Improvisation at Every Step

An in depth analysis of the main gameplay elements of NNG, released in 2015 to little fanfare and many technical issues. Unfortunately, the game never really received the attention that it deserved and was mostly forgotten, to the point where searching up questions about the game are often left unanswered.
Ghostbusters the Video Game Analysis - How to Make a Game Boring

WE EAT GODS FOR BREAKFAST! It has been decided that the next video will not be on ACU, but instead on a game depicting a brutal dystopic evolution of capitalism into the space age, where rampant consumerism leads to labour exploitation and profit-driven violence.

Yoooo I'm from Toronto and I've seen that painting many times in person :)
Probably the best video essay I’ve seen on this game and I’ve seen many. Subscribed
SUCH AN L TAKE
it is insane how the game normalizes the terrifying and disgusting environments. I have played the game so much that Pharmacokinetics feels like a welcoming homely place.
I think the meme-able nature and quirky humor of the video game (both good characteristics to have) have overshadowed the fact that Ville Kallio is a real artist with a VERY defined style and ability to tell stories with his designs and world building. If you look at his artwork and work on comics with other artists, this industrial yet neon brutalism is so normalized in the worlds he creates
You should review dwarf fortress. I'd love to hear your take on a game like that.
This needs more views
I don’t think Delilah is meant to be some evil mastermind. She’s impulsive and a flake though. Her call with the other firewatcher is really not that ominous. Could be about anything really, unless you distinctly want it to be about Henry. I think it just helps with the unsettling atmosphere. During the game Delilah makes a number of not great choices and tells us about more. Not coming home to see her grieving boyfriend, not calling in Brian’s presence, not calling in Henry’s run-in with the teenagers, asking Henry to burn down the station when surely thats the last thing he should do. She very easily accuses Henry of wrong-doing, too. Delilah is not a reliable companion in the forest. She’s amusing, sure, and we get to like her along with Henry, but she is not really trustworthy by the way her character is built. She seems to enjoy the puzzle and the conspiracy theories they concoct. Henry does too, but he is directly involved, so there is a more scary element to it. She is the only person he can rely on out there in the forest and she’s not reliable. Maybe this reflects his relationship with Julia, a very smart woman who suddenly cant rely anymore on her own brain. A beloved wife who’s fading from existence. The life Henry’s built is built on sand and it’s crumbling. The relationship he’s built with Delilah is also a mere illusion. They both think they know and like each other, but in the end Delilah will abandon him no matter what. She points out on a number of occasions even earlier in the game that she doesn’t trust him and she is, again, not trustworthy. The illusion for her fades when Brian’s body is found. You can feel the shift in their relationship. Henry becomes just another one of Delilahs regrets she will be running from.
Underrated RUclipsr. I love these types of deep thinking videos, dissecting and comprehending pieces of media like this. Your style is also nice, showing real videos and funny moments to add more spice to the overall video or to visually explain something. I know I'm late, but keep up the great work!
Lol you just don't understand these herrings. They aren't just random placements.
I WILL NEVER FORGET WHTA THEY DID TO MILO AND ZORKA!!!!!!!!!😢
intressting
Why does the woman who got the job away from her troubles not want to lose that job? Out of all the red herrings here..
We also have to mention the Soundtrack, second only to Minecraft!
damn i didnt think you gave 927 subcsribers by your production
When we lost zorka and Milo and the godchild I was devastated
This genuinely helped me cope after witnessing the end myself
I made my friends laugh by pulling down to reload in cs2, honestly I'm thinking of rebounding my reload key to one on my mouse
this game is crazy chaotic, crazy fascinating, crazy confusing and also crazy fucking hard. spent 20 hours just to finish every level on standard difficulty with sometimes using youtube videos because shit i had to find in order to finish the game WAS AT RIDICULOUS LOCATIONS
Very well done! Was not expecting this much detail when I first clicked, but I'm glad I stayed till the end.
I grew up with this game. it's so good.
there's no answer and that's why it's good, it's to make you thiiiink a lot, that the best endings for a horror story, no real answer. Like after you watch a David Lynch, all thos emystery make it a good story.
Delilah --> The Liar LIAR! All the game Lying!!!!

This game gives me medieval dynasty vibes in a good way
I've actually had my eyes on medieval dynasties for a while! Maybe I'll play it soon...
@arvinkhoshboresh I would highly recommend it! If you ever played the pribyslavitz dlc for kingdom come deliverance its basically just a hyperfocused version of that lol, it definitely has a bit of jank but super worth the experience I've had so far
The Masculine Urge to build a stick fort while getting a Christmas tree.
A really liked your video!
When I played this as a kid, all I saw was a fun little game, jumping around, upgrading, fighting, it was fun But when I decided to replay it, the lore got me so invested And when I finally reached the end I could only ask my self one question "What am I fighting for?!!"
Fantastic analysis. Very entertaining to watch, thank you.
You should do this for black ops one this was a great video
I had an interesting experiance with the game. At first as you said, the controls felt clunky. I have played the game for about 10 to 15 minutes at that point. Then, I rebound the controls to what seemed to me to be more natural. The r key actually reloads right mouse zooms in etc. As it turns out after a little while, I swapped back to the default. Something about Cruelty Squad changed my brains approach to this game. The weird and "clunky" default controls became more natural than the default of a typical shooter game I've been used to my whole life. weird.
Very well made video. Haver played this game since release. I enjoyed the story but the fact that nothing really had any impact bothered me then too
Say value again
I thought juno was gonna return with a robot army like ultron
i dont wanna like because is on 690
Its ok, I'll remove my like so you can like
V'ger wants his origin story back...🤣
I did Juno really early in my playthrough, and thought "Oh right, maybe this 'is' going to be a good game after all." I thought I'd bump into an evolved Juno later on. Oh well. Shipbuilding was alright.
People who think Starfield is a bad game don't know a thing about games. I played it for over 300 hours and didn't even complete everything possible. It's a great game suffering from a handful of significant issues, such as the old graphics engine. I enjoyed it a lot.
That's fair, and I know that some people did enjoy it. But I think, if you look at some of the sentiment online, most people do seem be disappointed by the game in some way, and it seems like you were too, considering that handful of significant issues you mentioned. But to be fair, I played like 20 hours of Assassins Creed Valhalla a while ago and I hadn't even touched 1% of the game. That doesn't inherently mean that its a great game, right? There's lots of things developers can do to inflate gametime that don't necessarily make the game good.
*Starfield is dead. Bethesda's biggest fail, even more so than Fallout 76 as that was made as a cashgrab, this game was legit in development for 7 years & STILL sucked.*
Depending on how generous I feel on any given day, I frequently feel like this. As a long time Elder Scrolls fan, I'm very scared to see what they will do with TES VI.
@@arvinkhoshboresh Its because they hire activists instead of people invested in the franchise who can tell a compelling story. I seriously feel we'd have a new Fallout game sooner if they hadn't released the abomination that is Fallout 76
This is kind of cool and all, but it's mighty similar to Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Could call it an homage or a rip off depending on how generous you're feeling. Still, glad you gave me some insight into one of the few good missions for a game I don't really intend to play. Thx for the vid!
I didn't know anything about Star Trek: The Motion Picture, but looking it up now, I think I would fall more on the side of believing that this is more of an homage than a rip-off. The movie looks interesting though, I may have to watch it.
this is the quest that killed the game for me. the last one I did and will ever do. I did not want to let the corps possibly salvage a usable AI but I figured if I let Juno continue to float on the same thing would happen down the line. so I wanted to end Juno as well but no one side or the other. no complexity or agency in choice. no chance to regret or think about other view points no reason to play again. and with a quest with lost of room for gray areas and thought provoking ideas. but under the surface lots of promise.
This is a point that I'm definitely sympathetic to... Its definitely the case that there is not much meaningful choice in this mission whatsoever. I think, in a better game, there is a place for simple, short quests, if there were plenty of other complex quests for us to enjoy. But in Starfield, EVERY mission is so linear and uncomplicated that its tough to forgive it for failing to explore the promise of any such short quest.
That quest is lame and boring, just like this channel.
Nobody cares about this game
I do. Is it you that nobody cares about?
I do.
I think I had a much better experience in Starfield then many. The first quest line I seriously embarked on was the corp on Neon, and then I went and did the Crimson Fleet. I didn't even know I got actual Space Dragon Shouts till I was, for all intents and purposes, done with the game and decided to look at the main quest, which held my attention long enough to get my first power.
I get how someone can have a lot of fun with this game, and I don't mean to say that I had NO fun with Starfield whatsoever, especially because the premise of Starfield is so interesting. I will say though, when I joined the Crimson Fleet, it practically ruined the game for me lol. Cause MOST POIs and locations I came to had a handful of friendly pirates and there was way less actual combat for me to do.
So you're saying there's small number of 7 odd quests in starfield and this one is the best?
Great video bro thank you❤
maybe they thought the player might find burning into nothingness more tragic than crash landing onto hard rock (Even though it would actually disappear into a gas cloud which I find much more terrifying)
It also occurred to me at some point that perhaps its harder to justify being slingshot from Jupiter's orbit, since Juno would have been stuck in Jupiter's orbit as its design. But then, if its can't break that orbit, how could it do so to go the sun? Idk also you still need to explain to me what "macsepticeye" means
Starfield is not a bad game and you are stupid! >:( nah jk I also love juno's quest. good video!
He did it boys...he did it. A video under 20 minutes.
Next up is a 4 hour analysis of the dinosaur jumping game from the chrome browser
