We have now four nearly identical systems with Ryzen 3900x working stable and fast. We also edit with Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve. Fun fact: the test I made in the video, was done with slower RAM speed. I did not recognize that it was not running on at least 3200 Mhz. Now, with full ram speed enabled, it's even faster.

Wir haben hier die MojoDX dran. Aber an anderen nahezu baugleichen Schnittplätzen (alle mit Ryzen 9 3900) läuft die Decklink Mini und ebenfalls die Intensity Pro 4K. Wichtig ist zu schauen ob die Avid Version mit der Blackmagic Desktop Video Version kompatibel ist. Gerade ältere Avid Versionen (also 2018 und älter) haben offenbar Probleme. Wir nutzen gerade die 2020.12 und sind ganz zufrieden - wenn auch kleinere Bugs vorhanden sind.

Ahja, und gibt es dafür eine Liste: Avid Version mit der Blackmagic Desktop Video Version kompatibel ist.

@@redmonster8774 Ich empfehle auch den Patch auf die 2020.12.1 zu installieren. Da werden allerhand Bugs gefixt.

Did you use a raid-system? I don't have any delay here, neither on the machine with Radeon Pro WX7100 nor on the other Ryzen 3900x system with Nvidia gtx 2070.

Thomas Hansen thanks for your quick response. Yes I use raid 0 system with rtx 2070 super. It’s a really a small delay, less than 1 second, but still it’s gets me crazy (:

@@kobiorcohen6863 Difficult to say what causes this. It depends on whether you have a full blown timeline with a lot of realtime effects or not, if you use linked or transcoded/consolidated footage. What is the resolution and codec? It's important to transcode/ consolidate the material into Avids Media Files folder to have full performance. This is in particular important if you have a big project like longer than halve an hour with lots of video tracks and effects on it.

Thomas Hansen I’m doing everything fine I geese, same project worked smooth before on the z440. It’s offline tv show, the rusher is 14:01 (pal 16:9) and the sequences is abut 25 min. Suppose to work without any problems. In your amd system when you hit play and the video is running immediately? Without a small delay, I guess the delay it’s abut 4/5 frames. Again very small delay but still I try to figures out how to solve this problem. Bad away i have a friend with the same problem on the same configuration more or less. However thank you 🙏🏼 (:

​@@kobiorcohen6863 I am a freelancer working for different companies since more than 15 years. I sat in very different editing rooms with different workstations. HPZ420, HPZ440 (with 1660 Xeon), HPZ820, HPZ840, with Nexis/Indiestor or internal Raid Systems. I don't think that this small delay is an issue. I don't know what's the "normal" delay though. Since I don't know your footage, if your footage is consolidated or linked, what's your exact config I can't help you. I am editing 45 minutes FullHD AVC-Intra with LUT and multiple realtime inserts with alpha channel etc without a strong delay... maybe it's 1-4 frames from hitting the button to playback - I don't know... All I can say is that the machine feels and is loooot faster than most of the editing systems I was working on so far.

Runs great and stable. It turns out after a Bios update, that I did the speedtests with RAM not running at full 3200 speed. So it was faaast with the slower timed ram... but now its even faster. We built a second 3900x system with Nvidia 2070 to a have a good machine for Mediacomposer, PremierePro and Resolve.

@@thomashansen1555 hey thanks for getting back to me. Im actually researching all this now. This will be my 1st build. Im a bit overwhelm with all of this but i have a strong desire to do my own build. Is there a mobo you reccomend? I may need to go down to ryzen 7. My budget is only $1600 u.s.

@@d.edwardsfreelanceeditorvi4212 I recommend to use an online store with a good pc-configurator. It should let you know if you choose non-fitting components. If you plan to use it for Media Composer don't use few and slow ram 32GB+ is standard nowadays. Since Media Composer is more CPU driven than using the GPU - you could use a smaller graphics card like the Nvidia 2060 to stay in the budget. We choosed the gigabyte aorus mainboards. It depends on what you like to have in your machine. Don't scrimp too much on your mainboard. Think about a better cooling solution, since the AMD-fan is not the best. If you don't have enough experience ask a friend to help you doing your build. If your online store offers a assembling service use it. It will save you a lot of time.

The CPU is performing fine. The system is stable. We have some minor hickups in effect mode (Avid Blur Effect) when moving Bezier curves sometimes the background video in the composer window changes randomly while dragging, sometimes. Don't know if it's because of the Radeon WX7100 or the Avid 2019.12 version. But if you plan to use Nvidia 2070 this will be fine I guess.

It turns out that the new 2020.04 release of Avid Media Composer fixes the little issue. 2020.04 feels more responsive and stable than 2019.12 so far. We tested it 3 days during normal editing, colour correction, voice over and exporting MXF OP1A. I did not test capturing from tape. We have the recommended AMD-GPU driver 18Q4 installed.

Thomas Hansen hi! Thank you very much for this test ! I would love to know if you manage to directly playback and edit 4K/8K AMA linked footage flawlessly or do you still need to transcode them before to get a smooth work on the timeline?

@@24framestime I was not able to test this in the last months. Our projects are 1080i at the moment so don't have footage and no time. If you wan't smooth playback in big projects its always recomended to use Avid native codecs to do a very fast consolidation or you have to transcode.

This should work. I have GTX 1060 working with Avid Media Composer very well. I don't think it is used heavy by Avid Media Composer, though. But it might be very good if you also plan to use Davinci Resolve or Premiere Pro.
