Coffee Table Makeover Using Chalk Paint And Retique It Liquid Wood
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.2 года назад
Retique it is an easy to use liquid wood product that you paint on and stain. The color combinations are endless! For this piece, I used light Retique It and then stained it using varathane's Briarsmoke and Kona premium wood stains. I alternated between the 2 colors (majority Briarsmoke with less Kona), applying light coats and wiping off any excess. Then I painted the body in Renaissance Chalk...

Creating An Elegant Distressed Look Using Redesign With Prima's "Eternal" Metallic Decor Wax
Просмотров 1384 года назад
I love giving my pieces a slight distressed look. Buy, when creating elegant pieces, distressing just doesn't match the style. So, instead of the usual sand paper or wet distressing, I used Redesign With Prima's Decor Waxes. For this project, I used the color Eternal, an antique gold. You can find all of the products that I use in my Deer Run Revamps Etsy shop 😁

How to add a wood look to a laminate desk top using Retique It and a wood graining tool
Where do you purchase the frenchy from thanks Gina
Unfortunately, there is no longer a US distributor, so the only place I know of to currently purchase is from shops in the UK. Annie Sloan is very close tho and available in the US
When painting your results will look better if you paint and stain the entire length of your top not half and half random etc. I can see your over lap
So very HELPFUL! I am just trying to learn this technique and your tutorial is making me braver. 😊Thank you for your knowledge and beautiful result!
Is it durable, or looks great in beginning and horrible in a year or two?
Yes, it's durable. Just be sure to clean and stuff up your surface very well. This ensures good adhesion. While I don't have the piece in this video, I do have a couple pieces and a door done with Retique It in my home. It's been 3 years and all 3 still look like I just did it. If your surfaces will be getting daily abuse, I do recommend sealing with a durable waterbased topcoat
@@deerrunrevampsthank you
Could you please tell me the color of retique for coastal colors are. All products you used. Thank you
Bummer that you didn’t show it finished with a top coat
Love the moulds for the top of kitchen presses
I bought an old mahogany (i think) table w/ leaves. Does retique it block tannins? If not, what should I use before i apply the retique it? (I'm very new at this.)
Question, Does retique it fill the wood grain? If it does, I'd use it before painting my grainy dark oak cabinets. Seems like it would be the easiest grain filler ever. Thanks.
@@user-bq6yg3gv9p no, it doesn't fill the grain. It does mask it slightly since it's a bit thicker than paint, but it won't fill the grain completely.
I flipping love it. ❤❤❤
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm trying this product today, and I feel much better after watching your tutorial. I've watched several other tutorials, and I love the details you provide. You leave nothing out and describe different options and ways to use several products together. I learned what stains to use and not to use. How to go about fixing areas I don't like. I loved how you verbally told us your thought process. Thank you for putting good into the world. ❤❤❤
I'm so glad this video helped you! Happy creating!
Best explanation I’ve seen for this! Thank you! It looks fantastic!
Your pup is so cute!!
Do you have a recommended top coat to use with this particular stain? Thanks!
I prefer waterbased topcoats...the Retique It Tripletique or general finishes high performance topcoat are my go to's. I also use wax a lot. Just be sure to allow the stain at least 72 hours to dry before applying the waterbased topcoat
Can I use homemade cold porcelain or other types of clays? I have crayola air dry clay
Yes, you can use any of the air dry clays, modeling clays, polyform, or homemade cold porcelain. Just be sure to dust with the cornstarch first to avoid any sticking
Someone please tell me the best top coat for a table. Table will be used by kids and toddlers. What is hard and won't scratch?
I personally prefer Retique It Tripletique topcoat. It is extremely durable. You'll want to do 3-4 coats for a table top
Did you sand the top before painting?
Before applying Retique It, I only do a quick scuff sand using 220 grit sandpaper to rough up the surface
That piece turned out so beautifully!!!
Can you tell me why you need to do dark and light liquid wood before the stain? Could you use two light or two dark before the stain for the same effect?
If you did just one color of liquid wood and then stained it, you've have that single color. Doing the one color, then the other and running the graining tool through allows the first color to peak through
My kit has the light color primer, dark kona stain, and a epoxy top coat if needed. Do not have a dark and light primer ? I like the way yours turned out however do I need to order a dark primer also ? I think you are running the graining tool through your light primer. The instructions I have is to use one coat of stain after two coats of primer are on the use the grain tool. When you use the grain tool on your third coat of light primer after not sure what you used on your first two coats. I like it because the grain tool shows off the dark primer under your light color primer. Then your stain. Trying to see what you used on your first two coats. I also bought the Varathane stain Kona to coat after.
Yours is the best demo video I’ve seen, thanks 👍🏼
But the Retique lady said NoT to use gel stains and that you don’t want a penetrating stain?
Yes, you don't want a penetrating stain such as minwax wood stains, but most gel stains are ok. Retique It gel stains work perfectly with the Retique it liquid wood (I used Retique It gel stain in the video), and I also like to use Varathane's Premium quick dry stains
Thank you for tutorial….ready set go…..🥰Ann from Iowa
If I wanted this darker, would I just do another layer of stain?
Thank you for showing what product to us and how to use it. It's been almost impossible to find a video explaining what paints to use and how to use them to get the wood grain look. It has been so frustrating so thank you, thank you, thank you!
I tried it, ordered it direct so it wasn’t a knock off. It looks great on RUclips and I can see why it could be a miracle for some projects but I thought the light base color I got was not really light and honestly just a hideous tone. Texture wise it feels like chalk paint. I ended up doing a whitewash over it since I disliked the color so much. The gel stain they sent me was very watery, and there didn’t seem to be any residue to mix in. I would not use this product again.
I'm sorry to hear you weren't a fan. Retique it's gel stains typically require multiple coats, especially the lighter stains. This is why I mainly use varathane's premium stains. They are oil based and work wonderfully with Retique It. If you have leftovers, try playing around a bit with different stains and see if you like the outcome better
@@deerrunrevamps I have a lot leftover! Good idea to try another brand of stain. Thanks!
The stain is just stain no wood in it.
I have a mold made with hot glue. What do I use to glue it to wood
Wood glue or E6000 will work
Can you confirm the first two primer coats were 'dark' and not the light wood? I'm shopping on the site and it looks like a much lighter color. I want to make sure I get it right ;) And what is color #2?
Dark wood was my base and light wood was the coat I ran the graining tool through
So you start with the traill edge of the tool resting on the surface, then as you pull across the surface and reach the point where you want to create the grain irregularity, you roll the tool to the leading edge , then back to the trail while continuously dragging it ?
Yes. Start at one end and drag it across the surface. When you rock it from side to side while dragging it, you'll get a different size knot and irregularities. When you drag it straight across keeping the tool level, you'll get a more uniform look. After each pass, wipe the tool off, then do it again
Wow.
It só beautiful. Thanks ❤
If I am doing a table with an insert do I separate the two pieces with a gap or have the pieces joined up
I prefer to do it while they are joined together so that the wood grain matches up
Great tutorial thank you!❤
I wish this was in full screen instead of phone shot. Hard for my old eyes to see
Is there a smaller graining tool? I have lots of small board pieces less than a inch long.
Looks beautiful! Found this via Pinterest ❤
I'm wondering is it flexible
Will the paper clay crumble in time?
Paper clay is fragile when hardened. Any small thin pieces that are sticking out and not directly adhered to the surface could break off if it gets bumped. The pieces directly adhered to the surface are much more durable. Time doesn't make it any more fragile tho
🧡🧡🧡
OMG it looks flamin amazing. what a fantastic job you've done.
I bought light wood from Amazon and it look like crunchy peanut butter. It drys up and it supposed to be creamy.
I always recommend purchasing from a Retique It retailer. I have heard of others who purchased from Amazon have the same issue and some are able to get it creamy again using a hand mixer
So happy this technique worked for you! It is definitely slow going, but yes, it is enjoyable and makes you love in the creative moment 😁 I will look into changing the cover photos of my videos from now on. Thank you for bringing that to my attention
Hi, I really enjoyed your video. I like the way you use the molds, just pressing the clay in as opposed pressing it in quickly, then trimming at the top with some some of "knife" instrument. I used your method yesterday and, though slow, was highly successful. Slow is good. It's being in the moment. It's what life is all about, enjoying the moment. Thank you for the tip on the cracks. I tried that. Sometimes, when the clay is still wet, i fix issues with a wet, pointed q-tip. It's smaller than my finger. One thing, if you could, would you put the photo of your finished product on the " cover" of the video? I originally found your video earlier in the week, but without the memorable photo of the pot, i spent a long time looking for this video again, even though I subscribed to your channel. That photo would have helped. Thank you.
Where did you buy the moulds?
I'm a Redesign With Prima retailer and I have an Etsy store as well as a Facebook and Instagram shop. If you're in southern New Jersey, we also have a store. You can check out our fill inventory here www.etsy.com/shop/DeerRunRevamps
