If you were looking for 1072 he was back in service and 1071 was shipped to mpi from middleboro on February 12, 2023 from being exchanged. 1072 was the lone survivor, hope you caught him while you could. He still remained in service, but not for long. Sorry this comment was almost two years late. 😢 He was the very last F40PH-2C. 😪 They are missed, but always in our hearts and never forgotten. Think of the 3Cs as updated 2Cs. Rest In Peace old friends, thanks for 37 years of service and for the memories, 1987-2023.

May the CTC-3s, CTC-1Bs and all single-level sets Rest In Piece 1987-2024. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 On October 7, 2023, the last two CTC-3s, 1522 and 1530, were retired from service and Rail Spike Productions posted a video of the last two CTC-3s running on the Newburyport/Rockport Line in June and July.

1647 you fought well, rest in heavenly piece. 😢😭😭😭😭😭 People in the early 1990s when they were being delivered probably didn’t know that the CTC-1Bs would be retired in 2024, myself included, 35 years, great long service run. You kept on fighting and said “I’m not ready to retire yet”, rail fans love me and I’m refusing to go.

I saw 1811 recently. Love the veterans wrap on it. 846 received a very similar wrap last year. Now, there are seven 1800s up north: 1801, 1802 which is with the freshly rebuilt 1117, 1808, 1809, 1811 (veterans car), 1819, 1821 and 1824, while the rest and the 83 new ones are down south.

You’ll never hear great horns like the 1600’s ever again once 1647 is gone. Please I don’t want the Bombardiers to be gone, but it’s time for modernization, I guess. They served the MBTA well for 35 years, Rest In Piece 1989-2024. The MBTA is getting new trains for the better I suppose. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Like I said, nothing lasts forever and all good things must come to an end eventually. End of an era for the MBTA. 😢

When I hear “1647 is officially dead everyone” I’ll cry, because I loved the horns on these cab cars ever since I was little and started liking railfanning trains. Legends never die. They’ll be replaced by new more efficient, safer, more modern and high-capacity Rotem double-deckers.
