2020 American Backflow Christmas Mash-up
I've replaced the inner components multiple times. For some reason the retainer won't fit snugly. The first check sticks out about 1 cm, so it doesn't fit properly. Any suggestions?
If I replace both checks 1 and 2, the top is screwed on tight, there are no leaks, and it was tested properly. Why would both checks still fail? I am completely lost.
I'm referring to a 2 inch 007. Both checks fail when I test it
WHAT THE TOOL CALLED HOMIE????

This was AWESOME!
Excellent video !!!
I ain't drunk enough to keep watching this, and I'm in Louisiana, maybe once I got a shot or two in me, I'll continue
Another great one! Merry Christmas from your fans at Padest Inc
Thanks
I can't get either of the clips to pull out. Im scrapping this 8"unit so I will cut the edges with a torch
i Just installed a 1inch watts LF009 backflow and it spits water from vent when the water pressure drops from 60psi to 20psi, then the booster pump kicks on and raises the presure back up to 60-70 with in a 1-2 second time frame. any ideas what could cause the quick spurt of water from vent in that small time frame?
Brian, sounds like you are seeing the effects of pressure fluctuations. When the backflow senses that quick drop in pressure the relief valve will open temporarily to discharge. Once the pressure stabilizes the relief valve will close. This is the way an RP is set up to work so your device is working great.
Great video. Thank you
I can’t get either one of my check valves to pull out WTF
Thank you!
Thanks!
Dumb question can I use cooper anti seize on the valve steam for lubricantion on old valves ? I work at a oil refinery I’ve used it before and it helps on valves that are hard to spin
I test and repair hundreds of Backflow prevention devices annually, and I always use a smear of food-safe lubricant on all o rings upon reassembly of any device.
This particular model seems to fail a lot , even after repairs, have replace a few and next year some fail again… a guy from a different com also mention having issues with it .
I love that American Backflow is the only company that doesn't say "if you need to, flip the gasket and reinstall as a temporary fix until a new gasket can be found"
Great video. Need help on why the relief valve would leak water. Found a rock in spring area. Cleaned the 860. Tia
Joseph debris could cause your relief valve to leak or drip. Be sure to check the #1 and #2 check for debris as well. It is possible that the debris has damaged the parts which would mean you need to replace the parts. You can call us at 800 575-9618 for more technical help or to discuss replacement part needs. Thanks!
The two main check valve springs are different gauges. Which goes where? No videos ever say.
The stronger spring will go in the #1 check valve which is the check that is upstream. The weaker spring goes in the #2 check (downstream) check.
I have one with a constant stream coming from the relief, I’ve replaced the parts and still have the same problem. Any idea what would cause this issue?
Thank you for the video. Very helpful to see. I used a Relief Valve repair kit. After I installed the diaphragm and cover, I opened the ball valve from the water main. Water started shooting out from the sides of the Relief Valve where the diaphragm is. I have replaced Relief Valves in the past and I have never seen this behavior. I thought perhaps I did not tighten the bolts enough, so I tightened the more, the spray lessened slightly. I ran one of the sprinkler stations to get water flowing through the backflow assembly, the spray did stop briefly, but when I stopped the water flow the spray continued. Have you see water shoot out from the Relief Valve cover plate before? I am not sure how to proceed.
Well, I found this video that seems to have answered my question. ruclips.net/video/Dfg-G_UIZ_c/видео.htmlsi=cxXm_RHWe2QKWp0M&t=275
2" watts 009 , replaced all the rubers and still dumps every time I turn the water On , why , any help will be appreciated.!? Thanks I'm advance
Thank you for reaching out. It could be a few different reasons the device is dumping. Please contact us and ask for our tech team so we can try and troubleshoot for you. Our number is 800 575-9618
Now show us a video with 150 pounds of water on the valve while replacing the packings
Ah Watts/Ames, whoever the hell currently owns you: your engineers must have graduated at the depths of their classes. I sincerely hope they spend the rest of their careers flipping burgers or dumping fryer oil for producing such a horrible device. Truth be told, no backflow preventer is easy to service; however, this is arguably the worst. Whenever customers approach me as to the best device to install, I will continue to trash talk your products and berate your staff. G.F.Y.’s
Name of tool?
Backseating has never worked for me the past 10 years
Same here
Thank you. Saved me 300-1000 bucks finding this! I was going to just buy the whole backflow. The prices on these vary wildly.
it would be nice if the demo repair unit looks like the ones us guys work on after 25 years in service... plus you didn't say to check the relief plate for flatness... should have been a 6 screw design.
you damaged the relief valve stem removing that small o-ring... use a plastic pick.
💪🏼
I can't get the check valve assembly, or modules, to come out no matter how much I rock them, or how hard I pull. We have real hard water here. I was thinking that I could pour a muratic acid/water mix into the holes and let them sit for a few minutes like cleaning out my salt cell on my pool. Any other ideas?
Robie, sounds like the scale from the hard water is locking those check in place. You need to be careful with anything that you add into the water system. You will need to make sure that it is safe and acceptable to use in a potable water system.
pouring acid into an rpz is bananas! 😂
My favorite part is when he sticks the #2 check out past the flange knowing that’s not possible. This valve design is a joke , send the engineer back to his failed career as an Uber automotive enginerd.
It’s doesn’t tell you how to know if it is the relief valve
Jim, what can we help you with on the relief valve of the 009?
How do I know which is shutoff number 1 or 2
Shut off number 1 will have a tapped ball valve (test cock on it) and the shut off number 2 will be non tapped.
#1 is on the inlet side. #2 is on the discharge side
Yeah, i worked with a plumber who had a specialized ticket for it. I was trying to explain it to others, and it's hard.
Great video
Perfectly done ✅
Hi the bottom seal is not reaching the relief valve seed on the bottom. Any advice? Water comes out from the bottom once I turn it on
Thomasz, there are a few things that could cause that. It could be debris, sensing line issue or relief valve parts that need to be replaced. Please feel free to reach out to our tech team at 800 575-9618, we would be happy to help.
You guys are Crazy, Looks like a great work environment. Thanks for the laughs. Glenn Pourteau, Bayou City Backflow & Plumbing.
