Great Lisbon coverage! I'm heading there in a week, in your food review can you also mention if the restaurant accepted credit card if you remember as well as how tipping works? Seems the smaller places sometimes don't accept cards from what I read online, and tipping seems to be either 10% or "round up". Cheers!

High season is July/August when prices are highest, So is the temperature. 40C is not unusual. If that is a problem I suggest you visit in May or October, Cooler and cheaper but everything is open. There is also a mini price peak at Christmas/New Year. Even in winter Malta is not very cold. Just a sweater in the evening will do.

I know Malta well. So I can say it's not cheap by UK standards. Local transport however is good value. You can save money by shopping in the local markets rather than the supermarkets. Renting a small flat is similar cost to the UK , think £700 per month. While you pay nothing to heat your home factor in the cost of air conditioning in the summer. That said English is widely spoken and it's a great retirement option. The laid back lifestyle is great. If you want an even more laid back lifestle check out the Island of GOZO.
