It's so odd to me how the original devs made peltasts and skirmishers upkeep so expensive, when historically they were your cheapest units. It's also odd how cheap they made cavalry upkeep. For example it is cheaper to have a unit of Equites than Velites, it is also cheaper to have Numidian Cavalry than Numidian Javelinmen.

I think desert axe men are better than Nubian spearmen. Nubian spearmen break too easily

Don’t underestimate skirmishers. Skirmisher cavalry especially, but generally speaking ranged effectiveness + moderate melee effectiveness, the cavalry act as light cavalry when they run out of ammo. Yes you can do the same in all tw games with horse archers, but they aren’t as good as melee cavalry (usually).

Right at the star for Macedonia, the Light Lancers are their best units. They're cheap, they're the first cavalry unit you can recruit. They're fast. They have 9 charge which is the same value as Companion Cavalry and Cataphracts. For Macedon I made it a point to have 3-4 Light Lancers in a field army. A handful of these Light Lancers will break pretty much anyone within seconds of the focused charge landing. The Macedonian Militia Hoplites / Levy Pikemen can form a solid battle line while the 3-4 Light Lancers go on the flanks to break enemy cavalry, archers, skirmishers, and then crash the infantry from the flanks and rear. They do this very well. The Light Lancers allow the Macedon player to have true, potent cavalry charges for Hammer & Anvil on Turn 1. The other Hellenic factions don't quite get to do that until later. The Greek Cities have garbage cavalry. The Seleucids have a very potent Cavalry roster but they come a lot later. If you want some Auto-Resolve cheese as the Seleucids? Spam Scythed Chariots.

I would say, for every faction, just spam 1 unit in that order of availability (cheap) Horse Archer > (any) Phalanx > (decent morale+) Melee Generals are the only cavalry you need until very late and archers are only exceptional in wooden wall sieges, artillery is too slow on campaign map

Hey Fritz I hope you see this. I commented on another video about how to edit your game folder to be able to unlock the unplayable factions. I am not very skilled with computers as this game is from my childhood. Could you please do a quick 5 min video on how to find these folders. I was taught on several versions of windows ago and some of the folder names have changed from then. I'm currently running Windows 10 with a normal copy of Rome from steam.

I realise this was 5 months ago but heres a tip. Each time you go to war with Gaul, Carthage or Greece and are winning, sign a peace and demand between 20k to 10 k minimum, they will accept most of the time. On wery hard AI cheats denarii, and even if you just blocade a port and leave and thats all you do, if they demand a peace they will pay you 7 to 10 k minimum for gaul, and 10 to 20 k for greeks or carthage. Its an easy early money. Warning this will not work so well on germans those guys dont give a fuck :D p.S dont add anything else to the treaty apart from denarii, you can get trade and map info after you millk the mony out first :D

Me gustaria saber en que dificultad estas jugando, te cuento que estoy en una campaña avanzada con Cartago en dificultad dificil y realmente es complicado controlar el tema de la poblacion, mis ciudades se revelan por regiones, tengo templos mejorados hasta el ultimo nivel y aun asi se revelan, a cada momento estoy reconquistando y exterminando mis ciudades, estoy pensando en destruir cuarteles de caballeria y infanteria para no tener que enfrentarme a rebeldes con estadisticas muy altas; y tener una ciudad bien desarrollada para tener un ejercito que controle ciudades rebeldes, te cuento que destroze a Roma,Grecia,Macedonia,numidia,Hispania, y estoy apunto de exterminar a los britanos en su isla del norte, y con egypto estoy en una guerra sangrienta,pero lo que me impide avanzar es la poblacion, sinceramente siempre fui antiromano, no me gusta Roma por historia y porque el juego esta echo para que gane Roma, es por eso que juego con facciones antiromanas y mi faccion favorita es Cartago, muy divertida la campaña pero es un problema el tema de la poblacion,creo que juegas en campaña normal, pero esta divertida tu campaña, Saludos.

The ram thing is a known bug. It isnt too common but basically the AI sieges some settlement and builds siege but then gets interrupted and breaks the siege. Sometimes they get to "store" the siege equipment they already built and then instantly attack a settlement later because of that.

Learn to utilize the archers behind the phalanx. They were the machine guns of their day. The more casualties you cause at distance will save your men. It will weaken the enemy moral. They will break sooner. You will win easier.
