I hope you guys scanned it with an OBD to see if there were any codes. Check under the car, all the fluids, etc. It's rare to find a VQ that wasn't trashed by the previous owner nowadays.
You right as hell, make sure you run those codes. Check for leaks anywhere like a mad man in coolant or heater hoses too they known for popping like a balloon.
