About the California Fire Science Consortium
The CFSC is a network of fire science researchers, managers, and outreach specialists tasked with improving the availability and understanding of fire science and management knowledge. This includes increasing communication between fire researchers, managers, policymakers, tribes, landowners, and other stakeholders. Along with a number of other regional consortia across the United States, we have received multi-year funding from the Joint Fire Science Program to pursue fire science outreach and improve communication between fire stakeholders in the state. In addition to hosting a clearinghouse of manager and policymaker-oriented science resources on this website, we also seek to facilitate face-to-face interactions through regional field trips, workshops, and symposia.

Power Dynamics and Fire Response: A Geopolitical Perspective on the CZU Lightning Complex Fires
From August 16 to September 22, 2020, the 86,509 acres CZU Lightning Complex Fires burned in San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties, causing catastrophic impacts.
From the perspective of a foreign researcher, Clara Aubonnet's presentation will attempt to explain how power rivalries over forest management and firefighting agencies complicated the response to the CZU. This enables a geographical analysis of localized socio-political situations around fire and forests and the representations of people at different scales. In this way, she tries to gain a better understanding of the interdependence between societies, nature, and the causes of fires.

i remember getting evacuated from school and seeing flames almost touching the school bus - ahh good times
I'm watching this in 2022, a month before the 7th anniversary of the Valley Fire. We've taken many good actions since then, but this video still feels very pertinent in terms of the science and the important lessons. Thanks to Chief Green and everyone who helped fight this disaster.
can wildfire stat naturally without human involved? if so how?
Lightning ignitions are the most common source of non-human wildfire ignitions
@@ssfrederick6061 yes i know, but i'm more focusing on the 'heat' especially in the summer when most fires happen where no lightening is involved, so my question is it possible for heat of the sun to ignite grass naturally? if so how is it doing it?
@@yassinyassin4006 There are no cases that I've heard of in over 26 years of Wildland Firefighting experience where sunlight caused a wildfire without the use of a magnifier such as a soda bottle or a magnifying glass.

Hey i know jeff, i went to trexx training with him...
great stuff! Thanks
Thank-you for the excellent presentation. My only comment (and maybe you have link ) for information on making the routes/roads in and out of a street safe? It is critical that the Fire people can safely get in and that the homeowners can safely get out if needed. In our rural area of Mariposa California it is not uncommon for a home to be easily defendable and the roads in and out are dangerous. We are lucky to not have the Diablo winds. Thanks again!

Really appreciate this information. Thank you so much!
Great job Rob. Well-researched and great info on wildfires and wildfire preparation/response.
