Video of my 1974 Evinrude 6 hp outboard engine idling in a makeshift test tank. This nice little motor had been sitting in my basement untouched for over 15 years, so long I forgot it was even down there. After a shot of starting fluid, this thing started right up! It spit and sputtered initially but smoothed out after running it a little while, but now it is purring like a kitten. I changed the black as night lower unit oil with the good Quicksilver 80w-90 oil made for this purpose. Best not to use automotive oil for rear axles unless it's for a short time because the Quicksilver oil has additives made to protect the gears from damage in the event of water intrusion.
