this could have worked best as an EP after the real deal would have come out, like Magical Mystery Tour, cept the other way around. bitchin mix!
great smile mix! is there anyway to download this coz i love these mixes?
Good, but I prefer the SMiLE AD version of Cabin Essence, the vocals still sound off in this one and Truck Drivin' Man is hidden still
Yeah, there's a few things I wish I did different here. I wasn't aware "He Gives Speeches" was supposed to feature the Eltro effect until after the fact in particular.
You do get why they drank and got into drugs?their father, and mike love, even carl wanted to sort him out on stage.
Perfect except for he gives speeches, which is SHIT!
Do you have a download link for this?
In the description.
@@TR4G1CK thanks!
Everybody loves Brian. Dennis is amazing also though. Listening for the first time and wow. Would you happen to have an updated link?

where can I find "SMiLE: The 1973 Mix"?
where can I find "the 1973 mix"?
It's on 19.67's Bandcamp page.

That's Jacob Borshard's voice from his 2014 fanmix "The Completed SMiLE".
@@TR4G1CK Oops 🥴
Fame never wins out over education. Irving Berlin played piano with 2 fingers. Brian had 10 fingers and a voice above many and when outsiders bullied him, he didn't get much help from the band. The head (brain) controls the body. Once again, Hollywood divides and conquers the band, once united, now individuals wondering why.
this is a MASTERFUL mix!!!!!!
I love how you included the album artwork. Do you know where can I find the all artwork for the individual songs.

I love tragiclifeform’s use of the “Brian falls in piano” sound during the transition from Gee to heroes and villains
You can hear, even in such a basic state that "Oh, Lord"....could have been one of his best.
Reminds me of the slower soulful songs done by The Band in the early 70s. The organ and raspy vocals
Is this AI? Whatever the hell it is, it's beautiful.

Phil Spector: "I never thought he [Brian Wilson] was that talented". As much as I love Spector he deserved to die in prison for that statement alone.
Hello. I just discovered your "Smile" uploads today. The mixes & sequencing you put together are "Wonderful"!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)

Well here you are again .......taking us on a psychedelic trip inside Brian Wilsons Brain back in 1967 ! WOW ! Look AT THE COLORS ! Yes Brian and Van Dyke are so far out that Mike Love Can't get a frigging clue . This stuff is ground breaking I know I couldn't believe my ears when My close Friend Jim Tucker from the Turtles let me hear some tapes he got from Mark Volman through Brian when I was 17 years old ! The hair on my neck and arms stood up ! I got goose bumps ......I thought Oh MY GOD Brian has sure done it this time ! But sadly as you all know it never came to be . I had to wait 35 years for Darian Sahanaja and Jeffery Foskett to talk Brian in to finishing it . But what we are hearing here is the Beach boys . Wish Marc Linnet would remaster these and release them proper . Thank you guys again from the bottom of my heart . Bless you for doing this !
Profound statement.
I worked the the " BOYS" and toured with them for 12 years through " BILL GRAHAM PRESENTS " .......I have a lot of rare stuff from the vault on 4th street in Santa Moncia at Brother Records ....But I must say I have never heard these tapes before , I didn't know that Brian made even more alternative versions of Smile ! Thank You so much for posting these on RUclips Tragick !!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed. Some of the vocals were created with artificial intelligence by Mike LeRoy and Dae Lims.
@@TR4G1CKah that answers my question of “what were those vocals”
Love it. My fave SMiLE mixes have "Speeches." My ultimate fave mixes also include "Rock With Me."
Fricking Incredible ! Was Smile better than Sargent Pepper ? Sounds like it to me ! Both are super good albums though .
I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
Can you imagine this music having been released in the winter of '66/'67 when it was recorded? Months before Sgt. Pepper's! Mind boggling.
@@Andrew-kq4xmSeriously.
profile, just stating a FACT!
It’s brilliant an not depressing it was the last times Dennis and Brian spent together
what is this?
Shame the recording levels are really shit
The first-generation tape is out there somewhere. There's hope, some day.
These were demos, and the sound quality of demos usually leaves a great deal to be desired.
Think of this as a lo-fi album. Lossy audio quality fits this kind of music IMO.
Love you is Brian’s first sooo record , encouraged by Wilson bros to really go with his instincts after the 15 Big ones fiasco, that’s a manipulated record not Love You, excellent songs It’s really a proto new wave record way before people were using synths .. Wilson bros vocals are excellent esp Dennis who sang in a lot of the tunes but so is carls work on it too. The night wa so young is a masterpiece as are others like I bet he’s nice, Mona , …I love Brian’s lyrics rarely did he do his own…Johnny Carson even ..people dismiss it but I feel Brian is giving JC props for persevering and being consistent in the biz knowing what it takes to do something at a high level w lots of pressure.. Brian was a family business so many depended on him…literally the golden goose..I often think that’s why Dennis wasn’t intervenedauxcessfully ..man
yeah that was an awesome album. And Dennis made some great music too that sadly never got much recognition although I think his was the best solo Wilson album.
23:50 I always find it endearing how these ideas stay with Brian for so long. This one almost got released as "Love Ya" in 1991
You guys snort cocaine?!?! God I wish I could’ve spent a day, taking him up on that offer, you can tell them dudes, were like, yeah we’ll be back!!Brian was most likely so high on it, he couldn’t resist but to blurt out, about the coke. Like a true fiend. Hell, he had no problems with it, huh….😁

And,,….😆😆
I've read about these sessions. Brian Wilson has gone through alot and recently lost Melinda. RIP
Great interview at the end. Brian sounds great. Talking about the Medley, this was surely '81. Glad to hear Brian didn't like the MIU album. It was pretty bad. One of the things in hearing Brian here, how clear he sounds, it begs to think how much Landy damaged him soon after this misdiagnosing and prescribing the wrong meds.
It's unnerving for sure. I can't believe that I didn't put it together until I read about it but the way his appearance changed during the Landy era always threw me off which was apparently due to Landy having him get lifts on his face, neck, and eyelids. It's heartbreaking what's happened to Brian, especially now that he's been diagnosed with dementia.
@@TR4G1CKI worry about him so much right now, now that his wife has passed.
Before Landy, Brian was messed up. After Landy, Brian was still messed up. Unfortunately not much changed other than the weight loss. Dennis wouldn't have ever wanted to succumb to a tyrant like Landy which is why he refused treatment and hung out on the beach instead.
If they had stuck with the original mixes of some of the MIU songs, MIU could have been one of their best imo
Looking at the picture, I remember by 1981 seeing Dennis and noticing the dramatic change in his appearance from '77 when I first met him in person. By '83, it was drastic. I have been told by insiders that the family and band tried to help him but he just wouldn't complete rehab. The band promised to buy him a new house (as well as a share of all the touring gates while he was gone), if he would just check himself into any rehab of his choosing and complete the program. Dennis wouldn't go. Several friends let Dennis stay with them or gave him money. Carl invited Dennis to go to his vacation cabin with his family in Colorado for the holidays. Dennis refused. Dennis was offered treatment with the psychologist who weaned Eric Clapton off heroin. He never made an appointment. Many people tried to help Dennis. Dennis didn't always want to be helped. So sad.
I believe I remember reading something about Brian saying that even forcing Dennis under Landy's regime wouldn't have worked because he had too much fight in him. I can't imagine the helplessness of the people who loved him in watching him destroy his life knowing full well that any day they were going to get the call to tell them that he got himself killed. Thank you for sharing your stories.
@@TR4G1CK Such a remark implies that Landy wasn't as totalitarian as some make him out to be.
@@jmdavison62 He was a totalitarian in Brians finances. Its one thing for the tough live type of treatment. But Landy kinda got too ahead of himself.
@@neonfroot No doubt about it. I think Landy had good intentions but got carried away (and failed to check his own greed).
Dennis left treatment, I knew the Dr who treated him multiple times, and there were others , he was left last one I think it was at CPC Westwood because he didn’t want to be in hospital over xmas
that Stevie song slaps
The end of the chorus resembles the end of the chorus in "Airplane," doesn't it?
The story of The Beach Boys is the story of the generation of the hopeful youth of the 60s that was crushed by drugs in the 70s and became a shell of their former self by the 80s.
Actually they still made a ton of great music through a lot of that.
Beach Boys may be the most definitive symbolic band of their times. Also lets not forget in the 1990s when the Boomers became paranoid tightasses whom will condemn the youth for having high tech recreation which is far less potent than the psychedelic orgy they had.
It was Murry who crushed them into diamonds. The drugs were just a Band Aid for the psychological pain.
@@AiMRIt was probably much more than that. No matter how much success one has, life and mother nature herself, can be a heart eroding experience...
@@SartorialisticSavage65 Especially when you are a gentle soul, like the Wilsons. Dennis while outwardly the strongest was actually the most fragile IMO.
The most shocking part of this entire album, is that in 1981, nearly 15 years after the commercial failure of Smile, Brian is still trying to play out Heroes and Villains. The true magnitude of this song in Brian’s universe is perplexing. something worth looking at.
I don’t think smile was released. Smiley smile was released but the full smile album wasn’t until 2004. Smiley smile was I think very didn’t include surfs up and quite a few others. Smile was like a whole concept.
Though heroes and villains was in smiley smile, though i thought it the refrain is brought back in other songs also in smile.
@@ComeAlongKay correct, smile itself was never released. Most of its songs however were released in bits and pieces throughout the late 60’s and early 70’s on various albums. They were all commercial failures.
@@joe_DWilson Yes, and as Carl Wilson said, "Smiley Smile was a bunt instead of a grand slam." Once they shelved the concept album Smile, they needed to get something out to Capitol and went into a hastily set-up home studio at Brian's house. There they re-recorded simplified/stripped down versions of numerous Smile songs. Good Vibrations and Heroes and Villains were added to the album in their 45 single record version release. I remember being so disappointed when I heard Smiley Smile for the first time. I was expecting the continuation of Pet Sounds and the promise of the Surf's Up preview on Leonard Bernstein's CBS Special.
@@joe_DWilson It's true they were all commercial failures (as Smile itself probably would have been), but I think the Smile songs they put on other albums are some of Brian's best work: Our Prayer, Cabinessence, Cool, Cool Water, Surf's Up/Child Is Father Of The Man.
Hamburger for a song Brian!?
That seems like a deal he always would have made, regardless of substances. Brian digs food
Knowing the state they were in, they made some fucking phenomenal songs here. If finished these could honestly be some of the bands’ best work.
Some flourishes in "Why Don't You Tell Me Why" found their way into "Love Ya."
This is beautiful... but like, also really fucking depressing.
