If you go to Issan, you will avoid all the useless city people. I grew up in rural Sweden and the worst thing I know is useless people from the city. In Issan there are real people and no tourists bragging about their money and other shit. I have a house in Sisaket and there I have two bathrooms with European toilets and European showers. I hope all the city people stay in hua hin, pattaya and bangkok so i don't have to see all the crap people.

For me: 200K baht and 5 baht gold, plus paying for the wedding. My wife's family is rural Isaan and her Dad died many years ago. So, it is just her aging Mom and her 13-year-old son whom her mom has raised. I can hear everyone screaming "don't pay a thing; she didn't go to university, already has a kid", I shouldn't pay for wedding since I paid sin sod, etc. etc. But here's the thing: they have zero money and it is peanuts to me. The 200K baht will pay off an agricultural debt at the bank. The have never owned gold before. My wife's best friend growing up next door got 200K baht, so it is important for my wife's mom to get the same to save face (even though neighbor's daughter went to university and didn't have a kid prior). My wife is wonderful, and I couldn't be happier. So, it's all OK. They can have the money and the gold. I'm happy to be with her and help her family.
