Not sure it's the moon. The moon normally covers a larger point of perspective when aligned with sun to give us a thin ring of passing light. That looks like a large planet in the distance of space.
I'll never forget bumping into Frank on the docks in Montauk back in the 80s, we had a really good laugh together, and he was a big flirt , he was such a character, which I loved
I’ve had many old books! Australia! Large white pointers were harpooned at the whaling stations and ships. Generally considered Bad Karma! Really Big ones were considered a challenge as they tend to sink when there dead! However! 30 footers were uncommon say a hundred years ago! Now who knows! Also tales of large deep water sharks! Dead whales attract white pointers! Sometimes....they cut them open and find all kinds of even odder creatures! So I’m glad whaling is banned! I’m glad sharks are protected! There was a time! When the stomach of a sperm whale yielded more than ambergris! Large squid beaks....10 inches? Largest squid washed ashore.......3-4 inches! Cool huh! Not everything washes up on shore!
Frank was one great man. RIP..!! I used to meet him at Shagwongs in Montauk. We would eat fried clams and a few beers. and talk about fishing. He started the wave of studying sharks and understanding their needs on this planet
this may be a mean thing to say but im glad he passed away already. i hope hes in hell right now suffering for all those innocent sharks he has killed. may god have mercy on your soul.
I lived in Montauk when I was a kid in the 60's and my Daddy used to take me down to the docks from time to time to see the big sharks that Frank would bring in.

Although I don't support what Frank did when he killed lots of sharks, he was still a good man who loved nature and only hunted sharks because he found them fascinating, but he later discovered that a better way of enjoying them by watching them in the wild and teaching people about them to show they're not mindless monsters.
I can't believe Joltin' Joe looks so different! Marilyn's death must have really changed him. When he did the Mr Coffee commercials he just looked old. Now he's a completely different person.
frank was amazing and I would have loved to fishd with him. He caught the largest shark o rod and reel and harpooned the largest shark. I have been to montauk and plan on going back real soon
I'm really sad. I will miss him greatly. He was really a stand up guy and had a big heart. I enjoyed all my time with him and I'm sure many others feel the same. The world truely lost a great man. They don't make them like that anymore.
I had the pleasure to meet Frank Mundus at my Father's Restaurant, the Casa Nova in SI NY. We had dinner and presented Capt Frank with cake with his picture on it. Funny as it was at 10 yrs old I idolized Frank. The very next summer my sister and I Saw Frank at the dock at West Lake Lodge in montauk (lol) and he blew us off as wharf urchins. Man what a memory...But Capt. Frank is truly the Monster Man and still a little bit my hero.
