We are just wondering (actually trying to play now) :- in phase one no one seems to be able to 'go out' - seems like it will just go on & on & on before someone can get rid of all their cards as there are only 6 different numbers to add to a set ???? Assuming you cannot lay another set down in addition to the two sets of phase one?

    If rail tokens are tiebreakers, why would you remove them from the board at the beginning of scoring? A single rail token is still relevant even if it doesn't score, or did I just misunderstand something?

    • @TheTabletopTutor

      You are correct. On Page 10 of the rulebook in the ‘King of the Rails’ section it describes the number of rail tokens as the tiebreaker.

    Dune imperium is not a deck building game anyway... When a game has a deck building as a support mechanism this game means its not a deck building game in my opinion

    • @TheTabletopTutor
      @TheTabletopTutor 2 года назад

      That is a fair point. The deck building mechanism is not as strong in Dune Imperium as it is in a game like Dominion. However, your ability to build a strong deck that aligns to your individual strategy is a key aspect to your success in the game. You cannot succeed at Dune Imperium without some strategy in your card selection.

    If there’s only one color match do other players pick up card? Is it one card pick up per color match?

    • @TheTabletopTutor
      @TheTabletopTutor 2 года назад

      Hello Yucatica, The 'take that' action of forcing other players to draw a card only occurs when you have a double number and color match during your play. For example, if the number is a red 6, and you are able to play a red 5 and a red 1, then your opponents each have to draw an additional card into their hands. In your earlier question, if you were down to 1 card at the end of your turn, but had to draw additional cards during other player's turns; then on your turn you may once again have to declare 'Dos' when you are back down to 2 cards.

  • @yucatica
    @yucatica 2 года назад

    I get when to call “dos”, but after you call it and you end up with one card, what happens? Can that happen or am I playing wrong?

    • @TheTabletopTutor
      @TheTabletopTutor 2 года назад

      Hello Yucatica, You can absolutely wind up with one card in your hand. The task to call 'Dos' when you only have 2 cards left, is probably the only real comparison back to the original game, 'Uno'. If you have one card in your hand, you continue to play your turns as normal, but are not obligated to remind the other players that you have one card left.

      I am so pleased that you were able to use my tutorial to play Trains as your first deck-builder game. I've made note of the concern that you've raised around how to leverage the Randomizer cards to ensure that every game is unique. I reviewed my instructions starting at 2:20 in the video. I think the explanation that would have been helpful is to say to replace each randomizer card that is drawn with the stack of cards from the box. Then arrange those onto the game table as is explained further in the video.

    Hello Everyone! Thank you for taking the time to watch this video. As I have learned more about the board gaming hobby, I am constantly amazed at how deep this hobby is and how the different game designers use certain mechanisms to challenge the players. For me, cooperative games are a great way to share the hobby with players. It can be a fun interactive way to discuss different strategies at the gaming table. For this video, I just pulled all the cooperative games off my shelf and went through them one by one. In later videos in this collection, I will break down my collections by other mechanisms, such as deck builders, racing games, exploration, pick up and deliver, hand management, etc. Please leave a comment to share your favorite cooperative games, or your favorite board gaming mechanisms. - John McCann The Tabletop Tutor

      Hello Kjelstad, You are looking at the second video that I ever made. I have a custom gaming table, which I built myself. The best part of my table is that it is mounted on a Vari Electric Standing Desk 60"x30". So I can sit or stand at my gaming table. amzn.to/3lYWUtX I keep thinking I need to create a video for my gaming table setup, as it is one of a kind and I love it. However, when I finished it, I couldn't find a mat for the tabletop that was affordable. The carpet padding was a free option that met my needs... until I started recording these videos. A good friend of mine saw the Trains video and referred me to Frontline Gaming. Their stock mat for $70 was the perfect size for my tabletop. store.frontlinegaming.org/flg-mats-ocean-44-x-6.html I put that mat on top of the carpet padding, and now I have a gorgeous tabletop with just the right amount of padding that you'll see in the more recent videos. Thanks for subscribing, and for letting me geek out for a moment on my game table. - John

    Looking forward to these tutorials! I'm curious...do you have a favorite game?

    • @TheTabletopTutor
      @TheTabletopTutor 3 года назад

      Hi Mike, I get asked that question all the time. I do not have a specific favorite game. There are certainly games that I have the opportunity to play more frequently than others. And there are certain genres of games that I enjoy playing for a variety of different reasons. From that perspective, the games I play most often are Terraforming Mars, released in 2016 by FryxGames; and Scythe, also released in 2016 by Stonemaier Games. My three favorite genres of games are Cooperative Games, Deck Builders, and Social Deduction Games. Cooperative Games are a fun way to introduce players to the strategic thought process of playing more challenging games. This is because in cooperative games, you play as a team against the game. You can discuss the strategy openly with the other players, and the ultimate choice is on the individual player to choose how to play their turn. The current video I am working on is for the game Horrified, released in 2019 by Ravensburger. I enjoy Deck Builders because all the players typically start with very similar starting points and based on individual strategy, and the luck of the draw will wind up in very different positions by the end of the game. The second episode, 'Trains - How to Play' is an example of a Deck Builder game. I also enjoy Social Deduction games. When I attend Board Game conventions, I always enjoy a good game of 'Are you a Werewolf?', 'Two Rooms & A Boom', or a new one that I am anxiously awaiting my Kickstarter copy, 'Blood on the Clocktower'.
