Im a software engineer too and this is something i want to do. My biggest concern is making sure i have reliable internet during the 9-5. Do you ever have problems with this? Do you always try to go to coffee shops or do you work off a phone hotspot sometimes too? Any tips, tricks, or products to buy to help with this??

Hey, I’m applying to Columbia for the fall. Are most of the classes on campus recorded? I have autoimmune issues, and sometimes it’s hard for me to make it to class. My current university doesn’t do that so I’m stuck usually teaching things to myself and relying on tutoring to catch up if need be - they’re not really accessible at all. I love this video and everything you’ve said it’s amazingly made, but honestly it makes me feel scared to go to college. I applied to Columbia and if I got in I’d consider going, but really just college in general, this made me feel like I need to rethink what I want in life but also idk I feel like I can’t not go to college. Wonder if anyone else feels the same 🤷

It blows my mind that this video doesn't have more views; it is literally one of the best edited, highest quality videos I've seen in a long time. I think you will do exceptionally well as a filmmaker! Coincidentally, I too want to become a filmmaker someday and I fear that my parents won't understand my vision, as they expect me to do something in computer science or engineering. I don't really have the courage to tell them otherwise. I have an interview with a Columbia alumni tomorrow, and so I watched your video to learn a little more about the idiosyncrasies of the culture. I've definitely felt that perpetual grind mindset before, and it's good to step back and take a deep breath. Beautiful video! P.S. The grind mindset and loss of your sense-of-self is a common trait among many students at top universities. The shallow and uber competitive nature is what makes many students feel this way; it's not uncommon. I wish you the best in your respite!

I was a graduate student at Columbia in the early 1980s. Definitely a strangely oppressive and autocratic environment. And, in my experience, some of the big-name professors were actually overrated and wrong about certain things supposedly within their expertise. Needless to say, without finishing and attaining a degree 😲😲😲, I ditched Columbia and moved to California!! I've done very well and never looked back. The school, while a striking and beautiful campus, is intense but overrated. "You can always say you went there" is of hardly any authentic educational value.

FUCK! I’M LACKING 😭 I really want to go to brown but the clock is ticking fast (I’m a sophomore rn) and I’ve done jack shit. Literally one extracurricular, no honors, no impressive feats or anything. My grades are good but no one cares, that’s just the entry bar. I’m a software guy like (I think) you are toemas and I have nothing to show for it. All I’ve made are poorly-built and unfinished web apps with a multitude of front end frameworks that I don’t understand. I think I didn’t understand that normal people don’t go to to the Ivy League. I’m starting to grasp that they’re going to throw your app out if you’re clearly not a superior human being.
