this video would be improved with better lighting/camera but the video is also ten years old so i give it a pass.

This paint looks really nice. The problem I have with acrylics I've tried so far is when they dry, they lose all the texture and flatten out. Do these hold the peaks and texture of the brush strokes?

I like his style. I have his books. He does mix his colors on the paper and let them bleed together.

Do you know if it is possible to get the old steel enameled palettes? I hate the aluminum ones - I’d fly myself over to Japan if they still sell them there

if you’re a beginner you might want to slow down the video a LOT.. trust me. pausing and playing over and over again gets so annoying and makes you feel like you can’t keep up with something so “simple”

I just cannot bring myself to use my expensive sables by scrubbing or pushing against the fiber of the hair & tip like that. it wears them down so fast and your nice point will be destroyed. My advise is to use an old damaged brush or cheaper synthetic brush for that. Plus, its totally doable to achieve the same result by using your good sable brush by pulling the water in the direction you want it to go with the brush. No need to push against it.

I have heard that Holbein Opera watercolor is highly Fugitive, along with other colors in the line of paints. How come you have not found out this one fact about this paint line? Go to Wetcanvas.com, and see! There is an artist that is performing his own permanence tests on various brands of watercolors, but has alerted many about Holbein's "OPERA" in particular, that it fades fast and turns a brown shade in a very short time with exposure to the sun or bright light. In this video, I see nothing resembling the color in great amounts, just a tiny speck of red on the house. Not much to fade wouldn't you say? I will be doing my own tests on various watercolors on my Fredrix WC canvas, to see if my professional paints will glow as you say the Holbein juicey colors do. I did an experiment almost two years ago for Fredrix to see if the Watercolor canvas would hold Pastels. You see they stopped production of their Pastel Canvas some time ago, so I decided to give it a try, and do Soft Pastels using Alcohol for the washes I found a quart of Ethanol or Ethyl Alcohol on Amazon for $12.00! They turned out very interesting as I am a beginner, and anything goes!

+digiphot2 Actually all Opera colors are fugitive and that's a given fact, even Sennelier whose 95%of paints are absolutely permanent has this one fugitive color known Opera Rose. In Holbein there are 5 unique colors that are in fugitive line which are the Opera, Compose Blue, Compose Green, Bright Violet and Bright Rose. I emailed the company about the durability of the fugitive colors and they told me that under a normal lighting condition in a living room, this color shall begin fading in 2-3 years, but if they were to be store in a dark place, fading shall start in 30 years, and they highly recommend to use this color if the painting is to be scanned only or to be stored in dark place, since this color are highly fugitive. But among the Opera colors out there Holbein Opera is one of the most durable, ive seen a test out there (forgot the site), their testing this fugitive colors and its a surprise that holbein lasted longer than the other brands.

All I see are the two colors painted in the same area waiting to be mixed. He did a poor job of showing what colors Holbein paints can create with a limited palette. Either a horrible teacher or a shameless ploy to get you to buy the colors to see for yourself.

Are you guys going to talk about their oil paints? I really want to get into painting. I know acrylic is better to start out with, but I have always been drawn to oil painting because it's drying time is slower. And wet on wet, to me, is easier. But I only ask because I have only seen 2 videos of people talking about Holbein water soluble oil paints, but they don't really show the paint in their videos. It's just them talking about it and how smooth it is and that they thought it was better than Winsor & Newton. But yeah, I don't know much about painting other than color theory, I do spray paint art. But I really want to be able to sit down and slow down a bit. Well hope to hear from you soon.
