"Blue Turning Grey over You" is a 1929 jazz standard. The music was composed by Fats Waller, with lyrics by Andy Razaf. Fats Waller recorded the song for Victor Records on June 9, 1937. Here we are again, outside that lil' old cabin, playing "Dough Roller Blues" by Sonny Jones. Sonny Jones was a North Carolina player who recorded four titles in the mid-late '30s. I liked the song cause there's a very unusual mysterious chord between verses. The song basically focuses on the topic of making bread, although it could also be talking about something else... ;)

Robert Wilkins was a country blues songster of African-American and Cherokee descent who wrote all kinds of songs; Ragtime, Blues, Gospel music... This is a fun song to play along with the washboard.

We went to the mountain and shot this video. "Untrue Blues" is a song by the great Blind Boy Fuller. He recorded lots of good songs with his buddy George Washington aka "Bull city Red" on washboard. The video was filmed by our friend Jafet Blanch. Hope you like it!

Whoopee Blues by King Solomon Hill (1932) Found that version somewhere where he sings with a lower pitched voice, now I can't find it anywhere, I guess it was take 3. There is also another version by Lonnie Johnson, same lyrics but different guitar work.

Another song I can add to my favorites. Songs like these make me happy 😊. A question though: Where do the altered lyrics originate from? I think 'that's when I was your lover, now baby you just found another' works so much better than the original 'that's when I was a novelty' which didn't sound quite right to my ears. Cool, nice to be on the radio! I started listening to old country blues around 20 years ago and I got totally hooked by it's richness, variety of sounds and patterns compared to the post war blues. I was fascinated by the pre-war years of blues music, starting with the best known (Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Mc Tell, Blind Lemon Jefferson) and then I did a big dive into the lesser known artists. At the same time I was learning all the old jazz music, swing, ragtime, hillbilly music, gospel... basically all the music recorded in the United States from the early 20's to the late 30's. I felt the need to start playing that music not only for the love of the sound itself but also because of a series of events of heartbreak, emotional difficulties, precariousness in my life and now that I look back on it, it is the most important thing at the end of the day. Because although my technique is not perfect in any way, I play and sing from the heart and that is the only thing I can assure.

@@OscarWolf84 That's the beauty of this genre. Re-exacting in identical repeat everytime a song us performed is hugely restricting the emotion in place at that time. The best method to ensure continued richness is an improvisational approach. Musicians that get can adjust to the flow of improv with ease. Others are frustrated by it. It's what makes it soulful. Where are you from and where do you reside now may we ask?
@@BOLStudios adding a personal touch to each song is inevitable, so I stick to the song and then those differentiating factors between the original and my version come out on their own. I'm from Barcelona, Spain. Born and raised.
