    A "Scratch Test" is not a good test. Water bags are ineffective. Brown leaves holding on a tree means it is dead. Your email blast had better information for your customers.

    Keep the thicker branches from crisscrossing when the bush is young. This will help to build a table for the most important growth to rest on. Crisscrossing branches can fuse together or cause internal and bark related diseases and unsightly wounds. Trim it to form a V or umbrilla shape so that it grows like a tree lower to the ground about a foot or two and a bush the rest of the way up. This will allow you to get underneath them to amend the soil, weed, add mulch and things of that nature. It will also allow you to get under the bush so that pollinators aren't disturbed and so you see crossing branches that need trimmed while preventing you from getting stung by wasps or bees.

  • @CVetteMan1111
    @CVetteMan1111 Год назад

    Vitex does not like wet feet. So do not plant it in extremely moist soil or soil with poor drainage. Plant it in an area that gets a decent amount of airflow / wind but also plant it where it can be protected by a slightly distanced structure like your house or a wall or fense as a buffer to prevent extreme wind from getting to it. Because it loses it's leaves in the winter you can prune it to shape so that it grows how you want it to in the spring. Some people let these grow into tree form. I think that takes all the fun out of the plant. The point is to keep it at just the right height to enjoy birds and pollinators but not so high up you can't see the real beauty. The trunks look nice in the winter time but when all the excitement is up in the canopy it's harder to enjoy.

  • @CVetteMan1111
    @CVetteMan1111 Год назад

    Vitex is a high heat, high sun, and high humidty plant. It does well in super dry climates as well but requires a little more attention and a decent watering schedule in extremely dry climates. In zone 9 Lower Central Florida we have ours planted in full sun on the southern side of our house. Sun from 6 a.m. until about 7 p.m. It needs to be planted in a location where you can walk around it and work around it 360 degrees. Otherwise it may suffer from blackspot and other fungus issues. Expect high pollinator and bird activity so give it some room for that purpose as well. We keep ours properly trimmed to form a large bush / small tree. They can grow wider than tall so it's important to understand how they grow in your environment. Ours are trimmed like a vase or umbrilla to create a waving slightly drooping effect. But don't let anything lay on the ground. Keep it trimmed to create a slight bit of lift.
