I don’t usually comment on you tube videos however this is an impressive bit of kit and that’s coming from an English gentleman that doesn’t get very excited about much. However this made me raise my eyebrows not once but twice.

I totally understand the economics of diesel electric but there is nothing more awe inspiring than a big steam locomotive. A massive thanks to all those that keep them alive.

As I recall, that engine sat at Cheyenne, WY station for decades. When crappy MoPac took over control of UP, they destroyed the yards with those old steam mechanics. MoPac whored out the UP and were some of the stupidest people. I worked on MoPac territory. Piles of primary batteries behind signal cases, doors missing from cases, way worn out ties, worn out automatic switchmen, etc. Good people in field, hard workers but terrible management.

you can get away with bad video, but not bad audio. always check the peaks are at least -12 Db away from max ability and you're not overloading the encoder

whats the reason for the diesel loco in the consist?

They took a long time before the cylinder drain cocks were shut ,seems to be a bit over cautious .

great video sans the fact that the dedicated EMD helper locomotive (4015??) is not in the consist, instead a Garbage Engineering GE Junkamotive.

So is the diesel just there for PTC purposes and does it help with the train

I used to play on this train as a kid and climb in the tinder box I hope to one day take this train on a trip one day so I can experience it as more then just a static display it's my dream
