i cannot explain the love i have for this woman. reading her memoir and reading as her life goes on and how she captures the past makes me feel like im living in it. there is a special place for people who endure such suffering in life. may she rest in power.
Into my second reading of this book. I'm appreciating Didion's beautiful writing even more than the first time. Maybe because the years have brought me the passing of my closest friends from high school, from college, from my first year after college. They are all gone. // Alas, everything and everyone passes -- time and people.
Who gives a flying &^%? Most normal Irishman will write a ballad, cry their eyes out then go to the pub. This overrated mongrel hack insufferable stuckup skank swears she's God's gift to literature. Maybe she should die too. I mean just think of the novel she could write then. BRWAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! Go for it, Joan, baby. Great career move. It couldn't hurt.
Susan Connelly The problem with comments like this one is that you’re not following basic comment etiquette, so there is no way of knowing who you refer to. Is it Joan Didion you are calling horrible, or one of the persons making a comment? The way to avoid this confusion is to reply right after the person’s name, the way I’m doing right now, so your name appears. Keeps things clear.
Reading the other comments here, I would say your ignorance is in the minority. Go back to reading "One FIsh, Two Fish". Probably more on your emotional level.
amy butchas 😂 Luminaries are often controversial and polarizing. I know dotards can be that, too. But Joan is the opposite of a dotard, so I’m with you: “One fish, two fish.”
Can you imagine how she would approach MAGA? I love Joan Didion. This book is sad but beautiful,
Stunning
She speaks for anyone who has lost someone so loved, so mourned, any one so bound by grief.

Rest in peace, Joan Didion.
Life is an adventure and so is death, but if death is nothing then life still is.
this reminds me of the first scene/opening chapter of White Oleander by Janet Fitch
However do we protect the unprotectable......we try.
An incredible book. 💖

"When we talk about mortality, we're talking about our children." perfect.
"could it be, i didn't believe it?" if i was anywhere near as articulate as her, I'd muster the apt synonyms for profoundly sad but precious here.
Beautiful and heartbreaking.
Tears. Time passes.
She's so eloquent. :(
Beautiful.
Just finished the book. Amazing. She touched the reader with her words like a close friend spilling out her heart over shared drinks of an afternoon.
